I wasn’t planning a post today, but on July 3 American lost a television icon. Andy Griffith lived a long life (86), and from I can gather, a good life. One thing for sure, I can’t imagine any television watcher ever saying anything bad about the man. Below are some clips I found – take your pick – watch one or watch all. Enjoy the gifts that Andy Griffith gave us.

A fitting clip from the Andy Griffith Show

Pleasant reminders of growing up. Nice tribute Frank.
Mobius,
Glad you enjoyed this … and thanks for visiting.
Thanks, Frank! And you too, Andy.
Elyse,
Thank you and well said!
I saw his death reported on a couple of my news feeds. Nice tribute. Well done.
Fasab,
Sad … but at 86, I hope he was pleased with his life. I was surprised how quickly he was buried! (I believe a matter of hours.) Thanks for commenting.
Although I am not a fan of corn pone humor (I considered suicide at age six just to escape that obnoxious Goober character), I liked Andy a lot and felt a twinge of sadness when I saw he bought his rainbow. I was very impressed with his performance in “A Face in the Crowd”. Thanks for the videos. I didn’t know there were words to the show’s whistled theme song.
Lame,
Interestingly, I have seen several comments regarding his performance in “A Face in the Crowd.” When I found the clip of him singing the theme song I knew I had to use it because so many know the whistling version. BTW – shots of limoncello may cure your Goober Syndrome. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks Frank. This was a fine tribute.
Of course, Andy Griffith and I didn’t always agree as well as Andy Taylor and I did. But what a true American icon and symbol of the ideal American way of life.
Dink,
That’s funny! Nonetheless, as you say, “a true American icon”. Thanks for commenting.
Perhaps because I didn’t grow up in America I don’t have such a strong attachment to him. But I did enjoy the clips you shared.
Rosie,
Very understandable. Those of us in our 50s-60s grew up with the Andy Griffith Show and its characters – including a very young Ron Howard. Glad you enjoyed the clips and thanks for stopping by.
Thanks, Frank–a great tribute.
Patti,
Great … and thanks for stopping by … and I hope all is well with you.
We saw the show in Australia when I was young. You have given an apparently very nice man a great tribute….thank you.
Debra,
Amazing how shows travel the world. Thanks for sharing.
a wonderful tribute and memories! Thanks for sharing Frank!
Mimo,
Glad you enjoyed this … and thanks for commenting.
Thanks Frank, for the fine tribute to Andy Griffith. And thanks to the writers of the Andy Griffith Show for producing a character that looked for common ground in every issue and with every person in Mayberry.
Tim,
I heard an interview with him where he said that although the show was set in the 1950s, the used the mindset of the 1930s. Nonetheless, the people appreciate the man he represents. Thanks for commenting.
A very nice tribute to a wonderful actor who left a legacy of great performances.
Guapo,
“Legacy” … a good word for this post. Thanks for sharing!
Another great reminder of the simple days.
Kellie,
Well said … and thanks for commenting.

Deborah,
Well said! … and thanks for sharing!
Great tribute, Did you see Conservative bloggers and watchers of Fox News say they are glad he us dead and he was a commie?
I will refrain from comment of this out of respect to Andy Griffith.
Larry,
Thankfully, I didn’t see, hear, or read that news. Thanks for sharing (and I know you are not promoting that thought).
I sure did feel a sadness when I heard he had died, Frank. He lived a long life, but it’s hard to see an icon leave our midst. I believe he was a good man! And he will be missed. Debra
Debra,
Agree … and to think others to the opportunity to blast him because of politics … I shake my head. Thanks for stopping by.
I’ll miss Andy. Now if I can only get the Mayberry theme song out of my mind
LOL … but did you know the word? Thanks for commenting.
