With Thanksgiving 2012, how did you celebrate the holiday?
We went cross state to my sister-in-law’s for a few days. Besides the grand meal and visit, we went downtown Cleveland for our first-ever visit to the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Interesting place … but because we had limited time, we actually needed more time to enjoy some of the films. Also experienced a little snow on the way back to the house.
Nonetheless, we avoided the major shopping venues both here and there – but I did purchase 20 gallons of gas priced at 10.9 CENTS per gallon!
Because this is a back-to-normal week, might as well start with something abnormal – a drummer with no hands and limited arms. (Thank you Fasab for finding this one, and sorry this is a late edit.) Hope everyone has a good week!

Holy cow! 10.9 cents a gallon? I think I would’ve filled up the tank, the trunk, the passenger compartment, and whatever else I could find!
Had a nice, quiet Thanksgiving, followed by the wife working long hours and me schlepping wood. And I’ve managed to collect yet another stray – a cat this time, and oddly, male. (I tend to attract females – just not human ones.
) I think our cat collection may reach eight – if I can convince a couple of the existing ones to play nice! (Our coward cat was the first to meet the new guy, while the easy-going male that looks VERY similar threw a hissy fit – go fig.) Always something bizarre around here.
Glad to hear you had a good weekend. We need to get up to Canton to check in with an air museum we’ve visited in years past. Maybe if I’m a good boy, I can convince the wife for an extra day for the Hall of Fame!
Have a good week!
John E,
We were limited to 20 gallons – which was enough to fill my wife’s car and about 3/4 of mine.
Not only can I not imagine shopping last weekend, I fathom working in retail! Meanwhile, good luck with the new cat that charmed his way into your life! And OH … Canton has an air museum? Thanks for sharing.
The place is called “MAPS” – the name is an acronym. If you want further info, I can dig it up for you. Small, but nice, and with the last B-26 Marauder ever made – one of my favourites!
)
Might I ask what your wife drives? 20 gallons to fill 1 3/4 tanks – gotta be around 12-15 gallon capacity tanks. (Don’t worry, I won’t bite if you mention a Japanese or other foreign make. Just try to avoid the F-bomb, okay?
Never knew about MAPS, but I just visited their site. http://mapsairmuseum.org/ … and I take it you have been there. Meanwhile, my wife drives a Honda Civic.
glad you guys had a good time for Thanksgiving. As you know, we don’t have that here, but it was nice to see all the people I know in the US having a good time with their friends and families.
Amazing video – inspiring – that should be a wake up call to perfectly able bodied kids who don’t do anything cos it’s ‘all too hard’
Charlie,
Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes. Gotta love the kid in the video – and well said! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
While you were in my neck of the woods in Cleveland, I was in Denver. Gorgeous region with the Red Rock area. Hope you enjoyed your Cleveland time.
Carrie,
Oh we love the Red Rocks area outside of Denver … great concert venue! Our time up your way gave us snow pellets! When we go to North Royalton … close to you? Thanks for commenting.
I hope those snow pellets keep away as I fly home today.
We left on Saturday, so I have no clue what’s up there now.
Hope it was a very successful holiday.
Shimon,
Greetings. It was a successful holiday, yet with all the news from your land, I think about you! Thanks for stopping by.
Gotta know where you could possibly get gas at that price! Wow! And, damn, the video is incredible! Glad you had a great holiday. We did, too.
Hugs,
Kathy
Kathy,
The price was more how than where … but cheers to the treat from our gas credit card. Well said about the drummer! Glad you had a great holiday, and thanks for commenting.
Whoa!! How did you get a price like that??
Spinny,
Our gas credit card doubled our rewards, so it was a nice treat … especially with the guy one pump over filling up at $3.44. Thanks for visiting.
WOW! Have a nice new week dear Frank, love, nia
Nia,
That young man is special! Thanks for visiting.
Did I read that right 10.9 cents? It’s been a while since I’ve owned a car-almost 6 years-but that’s amazing.
TBM,
Your eyes are not failing you …. therefore, it was a nice treat. Thanks for stopping by.
How is it possible to have bought petrol so cheaply? Was this an illegal dealing? I’m glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. A little snow would have be so pretty (from someone who longs to see snow!) xx
Spiced,
Cleveland sits on one of the Great Lakes. After Thursday’s beautiful weather, the front came through bringing cold winds off the lake … and then some light lake-effect snow. Fortunately, not messy.
Nothing illegal on the petrol … just a nice gift from the credit card company. Thanks for commenting.
Glad you had a good time Frank! Belated happy thanksgiving!
Mimo,
Many thanks for the greeting! … and for stopping by.
I had a client in Cleveland for quite some time, visited the Hall of Fame a couple of times to take it all in, think I still missed some of it.
We had great weather here, in the seventies so we sat outside and watched on of our sneaky Armadillos tearing up the yard. My dog is so old she just sits on the porch with us and watches, dumb dog. Kids were at my house for T-day dinner, wonderful time of it.
No shopping for me. I don’t do that, to many crazed people out. Glad you had family time and a safe drive home!
Val,
Nothing like sitting on the porch watching armadillos! Glad the kids were able to visit on Thursday … and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the R&R HOF … seems I must return for more.
Inspirational these people who choose to pursue the very activity for which their bodies are most unsuited eg the legless (or blind?) man who climbed a mountain recently.
Cuttlefish,
Simply well said … so thanks for sharing!
I was with longtime friends in New Jersey. I’ve always wanted to visit the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. It’s up there with touring Graceland. Maybe one day. Probably never.
Lame,
Being with longtime friends during a holiday is a good thing. Meanwhile, keep the faith regarding R&R HOF and Graceland. Thanks for stopping by …. especially because I’ve wondering how you doin’!
I’m doing okay — still working on my “Manhattan Project” which is taking longer than anticipated and hindering my return. Obviously, I have to figure something out here so I can continue to work on the MP and resume writing LA. One solution might be to just work on LA at a reduced capacity until I finish the MP.
Many thanks for the update on your happenings. Whichever the direction, patience and persistence will guide your way.
Meanwhile, I still miss your regular presence.
Awwwwwwww Frank, you’re a bud!
Sounds like a great family Thanksgiving, Frank. That drummer is awesome. Kudos to him. So amazing what can be achieved. Thanks for sharing, and have a splendid week.
Paradise,
Glad you enjoyed the drummer, who is a very pleasant surprise while delivering a powerful message! Thanks for commenting.
Frank, that video was fabulous — thank you. It is good to see what some folks can overcome when some of us grouse about more mundane things.
Sounds like your TG was great. Mine was pretty good, too. And the vegan- vegetarian-militant-bird-lover behaved herself!
Elyse,
The video carries many messages, so glad you enjoyed it. Meanwhile, did you get a chance to use The Onion turkey headline on your esteemed visitor? Thanks for stopping by.
She was behaving, so I didn’t push my luck by talking about suicidal turkeys. It really is touchy subject because I like her MOST of the time, but on Turkey Day, well, I just want to smack her. REPEATEDLY. But I behaved — I had to, I was the hostess … and there were children watching.
LOL … oh my my … but I see your well-explained point.
Actually I kept the thought in the back of my mind all during dinner and it made me smile — so thanks for helping me through it!
Now you just made my day!
Happy Monday, Frank!
Seen the video before, but you can’t watch things like that often enough. It is so refreshing to see someone making the best of what they have rather than whinging on about how life owes them something.
Fasab,
I just remembered this … I forgot to credit you for this video. Edit on the way. Thanks for stopping by.
No, don’t worry about that. I enjoyed seeing it again for the reason stated.
Sorry, but already done as I like to give credit when credit is due.
Okay, many thanks for the mention then.
Nothing like a drum roll to get things off and running – outstanding.
Sounds like quite and adventure…a little snowfall just makes it seem like the holidays
Mouse,
Thanks for commenting.
The snow was just enough to remind us that we’re entering the season. Then again, last year was unbelievably mild! Oh well … time will tell…. gotta love you drum roll line!
Hey! You were in my neck of the woods. The Rock Hall is pretty cool, but I think that gas price trumps it.
Robin,
As you probably well know that 2.5 hours isn’t ample time for the R&R HOF … therefore I must return. …. and the gas was a treat! Thanks for visiting.
When you do return and if you have time/inclination, let me know. M and I can meet you and your wife somewhere up that way.
Robin,
That would be wonderful! When we are up there, North Royalton is where we go. Thanks for the gracious offer!
Hi Frank, It’s so important to celebrate Thanksgiving with family. Sounds like you had a busy weekend.
Geez that’s a very thoughtful Thanksgiving gift from your gas credit card!
The video is unbelievable and inspiring and awesome…
Rosie,
The gas was a saving of around $70! Meanwhile, gotta love the kid on the drums!!! Thanks for stopping by.
Love, love, love the kid on the drums. Wow!
So you went to hang out in the place of my birth, huh? It was odd to go back and see the Rock H of F in that area of downtown when I went back once in 40 years. “The Cleve” will always be more of an ache than a destination place for me, but glad to see others can journey there and enjoy it. Way too many demons for me . . .
T-Day was awesome at the Tomczyk house! One of the things I was overwhelmingly grateful for was having escaped Cleveland!
Take care.
E-Tom,
I recall some of your posts about your youth, so I understand a little of you seeing The Cleve as an ache. But when we’re in town, we’re mainly in the burbs. Glad you had a bountiful Thanksgiving … glad you enjoyed the drummer, and thanks for stopping by.
when i drive out to this year’s Ebertfest film festival in illinois, i’m going to try building in some time for a drip to the RnR hall of fame. i hear it’s great, but i’m not sure how much extra time that will demand.
We did 2.5 hours …. it was a race … thus not enough time. To enjoy it, I’m guessing 5-6 hours min. … yet I know someone who spent 1.5 days.
We had 19 family members to the home of my parents here in the desert had a sit down china set dinner for all! First time in about 3 years we all got together ….to honor my father and his battle with cancer. He did well that day but was exhausted by the end of the evening!
Kellie,
WOW … synchronicity at work because you popped into my mind yesterday, and then poof … you give me an update! The gathering sounds wonderful, and I imagine everyone will treasure that day! Thanks for sharing … Be strong!
Yes it was a task but pulled off without a glitch. Busy working and taking care of papa and xmas decorations! Yes synchronicity!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers to the effort!
