On a Monday Laugh In

Although not in my normal posting time slot, Happy Monday to all. I’m late this week because we returned home later than initially anticipated. Besides, I still haven’t replied to comments from Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

We drove cross state to Cleveland on Friday for a variety of events – primarily for my wife’s high school reunion and attending one-day of the Bridgestone Invitational Golf Tournament at the famed Firestone Country Club, which has annually hosted professional golf since 1954 … and in 1974, three tournaments!

We initially planned to attend on Saturday, but the times were changed in anticipation of horrible afternoon weather … so we attended Sunday – which included an hour rain delay. My mother-in-law’s favorite golfer was Phil Michelson, so since she passed away last December, my wife wanted to follow him … and she claims her mother’s karma was with Phil has he whipped off 10 birdies in route the tournament’s second best round. He was fun to watch … and cheers to Rory McIlroy for winning … but because of the 3+ hour drive home, we didn’t stay until the end.

Outside of National Historic Places, Ohioans don’t think of their state was having a national park … but it does – Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Given we had about two hours before we had to be at my sister-in-laws, we went to the park’s Visitor’s Center before going to Brandywine Falls (Google pics) and one of the intact locks in the Erie Canal. Then I joined our brother-in-law for a round of golf while my wife went to her reunion. Because of the change in the Saturday’s golf tournament schedule, we returned for a Saturday morning walk on the canal’s towpath, then spent the rest of the day relaxing at my sister-in-laws.

Enough of my weekend, how was yours? Come on now … tell us something!

How was your weekend? Come on … tell us about something.

Whew! … We stayed busy. Time with out-of-town family kept us off the ballroom floor, but we hosted a dinner, shopped at a local alcohol warehouse, stopped at a local brewery, and I attended a baseball game with a friend while my wife painted with her family … so we stayed home much of Sunday. Cheers to my neighbor for relieving me of watering duties!

As I prepare this post, we have a tornado watch. The weather reporters have been making a big deal for the past two days about the passing of this front and the severe weather it could bring, but I think the severe weather will miss us … After all, I use a technique that isn’t very technologically advanced … LOTW …. that’s Look Out the Window. Nonetheless, it’s a bit odd outside at the moment, so I predict somebody will get it … but not us.

Life: The Musical returns this week as life moves to adulthood …. so song titles must include Man/Men or Woman/Women. Curtail time will be Wednesday, 9:30 pm (Eastern US).

On a Virtual Massage

I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful weekend. How did you spend your time?

Although we were not zooming around at the speed of light, we were able to do some outdoor work, spend an evening on the ballroom floor. attend a church-group wine tasting, and celebrate Ice Cream Day.

I was busy enough to not be able to respond to the comments on Saturday’s Foghorn Leghorn tribute post. Therefore, in an attempt to catch up on the comments and reading your blogs, I’ll only post the mid-week Satire Bits and Friday’s Opinion in the Shorts. No decision yet on Saturday Morning Cartoon Classics.

On Sleeping Dogs

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. What did you do? Did the weather cooperated by providing a chance to see the Super Moon? We had hot and muggy, and late afternoon Sunday delivered storms and needed rain … which also means a few days ahead will be uncharacteristic fall-like conditions.

My wife went away for the weekend with her sister and dad to visit our niece, who is doing an internship in Michigan. Correct, I was never invited. Nonetheless, I stayed busy with an evening of ballroom (it’s good to dance with others), many hours with hoses and watering, hosted a friend for dinner before we went to my brewer neighbor, attended a British car show, watched baseball, and even prepared the next Saturday Morning Cartoon post.

The majority of cars at the British car show were vintage … that is from the 1970s and earlier. You know the names: MG, Rolls Royce, Austin Heeley, Jaguar, Triumph, Mini Cooper, Morgan, Sunbeam, Lotus, and a few others. Plus, attending was a good way to support two friends in that club.

Thanks for the many inquiries about my eye. Although the problem still exists, the retina specialist saw vast improvement – that is, the differences he sees in my eye over 4-5 weeks usually takes 2-3 months … so we will continue doing what we’ve been doing  – nothing.  I visit my primary physician on Monday for additional consultation.

Life: The Musical returns this week. Act 7 features songs with any of the following words in the title: school, student, or teacher. The curtain goes up on Wednesday, 9:30 pm (Eastern US). Hopefully we can improve from the numerous rejections in Act 6. ;)

On a Chasing Monday

Wow! We had fabulous weather for an extended holiday weekend. How was your weekend weather and what did you do?

Given the great weather, we took advantage of it for some fun activities. Whew … we stayed busy, but we also had some downtime!

  • Hosted a few dance friends for dinner and dance

  • Walked to town (about 2 miles, 3.2 km) for lunch and a shaved ice treat, and of course the return uphill walk
  • Attended a neighborhood party featuring the host’s just-completed beer
  • Took a long night walk in a lightning bug sanctuary (wow … a lot of blinking bugs!) … Impressive!!!!!

  • Attended a small dinner/cookout at the invitation of good friends

On a Laughing Monday

Our weather this weekend in Cincinnati was hot and muggy with a chance of pop-up storms … definitely not my favorite weather pattern. Nonetheless, how’s your weather? Did it interfere with your weekend? What did you do?

With my sister-in-law visiting this weekend, we spent a lot of time with her and my father-in-law, but we still got some dancing in.

A WordPress-related question to ask. I haven’t been receiving email notifications regarding your new posts. Are any of you having a similar problem?

My recent use of clips from the Carol Burnett Show have been well received, so hey – here’s another one to start your week. One of the trademarks of the show was how the cast got other cast members to laugh … and if they did, they wouldn’t let up. Enjoy Vicki Lawrence laying it on Carol Burnett. Have a good week

On a Flashing Monday

Hot and muggy occupied Cincinnati this weekend … so, how was your weather? Did you get a chance to enjoy the weekend?

Although our Sunday was low-key, our weekend included two nights on the ballroom floor, looking at tiles for a back-splash, a trip to our new town’s historical society, and some errands. Not being a soccer fan, but interestingly, I only saw the last 90 seconds of the USA-Portugal match.

Looking ahead to this week, two items of note. First, the next edition of Satire Bits is the 100th in the series. Following that post, Life: The Musical continues with Act 6: Teens, which will feature songs with teen(s), teenager(s), teenage, or any teenage year in the song title. Curtain time is Wednesday, 9:30 pm (Eastern US).

Celebrations for your week

  • (Week) Camping Week, Deaf & Blindness Awareness Week
  • (Mon) Public Service Day, Widow’s Day, Pink Flamingo Lawn Ornament Day, Baby Boomer Recognition Day, Let It Go Day, Pecan Sandy Day
  • (Tues) Celebration of the Senses, Fairy Day, Columnists Day, Creamy Praline Day
  • (Wed) Color TV Day, Beatles Day, Catfish Day, Day of the Seafarer, Strawberry Parfait Day
  • (Thurs) Hand Shake Day, Canoe Day, Chocolate Pudding Day

Not that long ago, your week started with a scene from The Carol Burnett Show. Because readers responded so positively, here is an outtake from the same show. Enjoy and have a good week.
