I have a very good friend that I have to thank for giving me material on this blog. He’s the type that talks with so much confidence, instead of facts, that he can be convincing – thus I most commonly refer to him as the baseball pundit or the political pundit. The purpose of this post is to share with readers some of his baseball proclamations in recent years.
- I (the Baseball Pundit) am not a homer.
- Ken Griffey Jr does not deserve to be enshrined in Cooperstown.
- The 1995 Indians are the greatest team of all time – better than the Big Red Machine and the 1927 Yankees.
- Omar Vizquel will hit 40 home runs in one season before he retires.
- Casey Blake is the best right fielder in the American League – better than Vlad Guerrero.
- Ronnie Belliard is the best second baseman since Roberto Alomar.
- Ken Griffey Jr is the worst conditioned athlete not only in baseball – but in all sports.
- The Reds only signed Aroldis Chapman for publicity, thus will bring him up to sell tickets.
He proclaims a lineup with at least six homerun hitters who strike out a lot would win the division. Let’s see … the Arizona Diamondbacks are the one of the top HR teams in the NL and lead MLB (by far) in strikeouts. The last I checked, the D-Backs have the second worst record in the NL.

Okay, the ’95 Indians were a helluva team, but that statement is silly! Actually most of these are silly…
Griffey totally belongs in the HOF…And he was always very well conditioned…Conditioning has nothing to do with a guy breaking his wrist while slamming into the wall to make another great catch!
Vizquel, 40 Homers…There aren’t enough ‘roids in all of baseball for that!
Casey Blake isn’t/wasn’t the best anything…Comparing him to Vlad…WTF!?!

Wow. Those are indeed some preposterous statements.
Vizquel has 80 HRs in his career. If he borrowed Sammy’s bat and Barry Bonds’ doctors he could maybe hit 20.
The 95 Indians are the greatest team ever just like the 16-0 Patriots are the best team ever. Who cares about the postseason? Ha.
I think he forgot to proclaim Justin Masterson as next year’s Cy Young winner and Shin-Shoo Choo the MVP.

Wow, this is a serious case of homeritis, and I’m infected with it now, too. I’m a Cubs fan.
Albert Pujols doesn’t deserve to be in the discussion about being the best hitter in the game. He’s not HOF material.
The 1906 Cubs are the greatest team ever in baseball history. It doesn’t matter that they didn’t finish the post-season as the best team in their own city that year!
Ryan Theriot will hit 40 home runs in a season. Why would you trade away power like that?
Starlin Castro is the best shortstop in the game already. He’s better than Hanley Ramirez or Jose Reyes.
Maybe the homeritis is wearing off now. I was beginning to wonder. Hahaha!

How is Ken Griffey not a Hall of Famer? I know Reds fans never saw his greatness as much as they wanted to but he was great. I understand that he strapped the Reds financially but the Reds also didn’t evaluate talent very well.
Griffey is no doubt a 1st ballot

To understand Griffey Jr not HOF worthy is only found in knowing the Baseball Pundit. Just because he speaks with confidence doesn’t necessarily mean he knows what he’s talking about. After all, this is only a collection of his statements.
As a Reds fan, I agree we didn’t see (as a whole) Jr.’s greatness. He had some good seasons here, but we also saw injuries and a player on the downside of his career. The injuries are a shame as I believe we would have seen him top 700 HRs and maybe become the career leader.

I am absolutely 100% sure that I’m not making this up. After all, I am not a politician who not only denies reality.
I also have this quote from someone in the Baseball Pundit’s family regarding Vizquel’s 40 HR season: “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard him say it.”
I have also witnessed the Baseball Pundit’s father shaking his head in dismay when told of the proclamations.
