I have a difficult time accepting Majority leader Eric Cantor (R-Va) using assistance for Jopin to get more tax cuts.  “if there is support for a supplemental, it would be accompanied by support for having pay-fors to that supplemental.” “if there is support for a supplemental, it would be accompanied by support for having pay-fors to that supplemental.”

I don’t get it. Now Harold Camping, latest of the never-ever-ever-right date-setters, has changed  his end-of-the-world prediction from May 21 to Oct. 21. Why didn’t he pick Oct. 23? After all, that’s the date in 4004 BCE on which the world was created (at 9 a.m. Greenwich time), according to Archbishop James Ussher. What’s Camping got against symmetry? Just to cover his behind, however, Camping did say  that Judgment Day really did happen last Saturday, only in a spiritual — not a physical — sense. Yes, and I emptied the kitchen wastebasket in a spiritual — not a physical — sense, which is why it still appears to be full.

On Shorts of all Sorts
From today forward, if we Cincinnatians get average rainfall the rest of the year, we’ll end the year about 30 inches above our yearly average. Well, that could also mean here comes an abnormal dry spell to even.

Congratulations Oprah! To me, her most important decision was (many years ago) deciding that she didn’t need to follow the path of the crazy shows as Jerry Springer.

  3. Leave it up to Mr. Any Repubfundie (R-Asshat), to politicize such tragedy for their own purposes.
    Yeah, some dems have been guilty too, but this is by far more used by the GOP.

  4. A good collection of various thoughts. That story about the old lady at the symphony reminds me of my brief stint as cashier at an all-night quickie mart. We had a couple of truck drivers, local-haul guys with families, barely scraping by. I’d only charge them for their cigarettes, since that was the only thing the boss inventoried closely – they’d fill their Thermoses full of coffee, which should’ve cost them $5 or $10 (I forget, it’s been 20+ years), and get a leftover sandwich which we were supposed to toss. It was very little, but it helped them quite a bit – and it was doubly sweet for me, ’cause the boss was a first class … er … “female dog”.
    Then there was the silly teen who came in wearing his powder blue tux with his girlfriend in his beater. Went to the back, got a dozen roses ($19.99) and came to the counter. He started counting out his money, all the way down to pocket lint, and came up short, dismay all over his face. I shoved his money back across the counter and told him to just go with the flowers. A teenage kid actually considerate enough to buy his girl flowers? Bang – that hit me right in my romantic heart. 😀
    Fun times, even though we were dead flat broke. 🙂

  5. Cantor’s comment shows how the single-minded obsession about the budget is allowing our future, and in fact our very humanity, to fall through the gap. It brings us back to that biblical question we should be studying “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?”

    As for Camping – he’s off from the start. The Bible is meant to be lived with the heart and mind – not dissected with a calculator.

  6. loved the story about the little old lady, despise widdle ewic cantaw, and loved the video. in the beginning, i thought it was disney animation, because it was just too beautiful to be real. as for the rapture, i was thinking–what if it really did happen, but nobody was good enough to be transported to heaven?

  7. It appears that seniors of all political stripes, including the Tea Party, really like Medicare in its present form, and will punish any politician who backs the Ryan Medicare proposal. Putting aside the “I don’t want the government messing with my Medicare” one-liner, my question is: How does the Tea Party propose the present form of Medicare be funded? So far I haven’t heard anyone from the Tea Party answering this question, which is a problem for the GOP as they decide whether to support or dump Ryan’s proposal heading into 2012.

      In my opinion, the Tea Party has no plan for funding Medicare in its present form because they have no interest in maintaining its present form nor raise the necessary revenue. Thanks for commenting.
