Fall arrived in Cincinnati Saturday morning, and brought the sunny, crisp days of the season for the weekend. We even got some much needed rain in the overnight hours. Meanwhile, let’s get some relief to those in Southern California!
What a weekend! The pride of the city (baseball’s Reds) clinched the division 
title, so it’s on to the playoffs! Downtown streets were buzzing Octoberfest Zinzinnati, the largest Octoberfest outside of Munich. There’s plenty of sausages, desserts, beer, oompah, people wearing chicken hats, and more for all attendees over the three days! We went for a jumbo creampuff from Schmidt’s (a German restaurant in Columbus).
Besides Octoberfest, we saw a movie (Hope Springs) (and enjoyed it), worked in the yard, hit the ballroom dance floor, took my in-laws to dinner, attended a delightful outdoor local art show, and even enjoyed a quiet few hours at home as the two of us enjoyed a delightful bottle of wine.

Praise be for the cooler weather! Now starts the fall scramble – gutters to mend, a driveway to patch, mowers to decommission, garden tools to clean, etc. And this year, some bunch of goofs, led by some yahoo from Cleveland, now has me stuck doing some cockamamie blog! 😀

Had the grand kids over for a sleepover, and it takes a whole day to recover from their magnificent energy stream.
CinCin weekend sounds like Milwaukee, Wis. Beer, brats, creme puffs, etc., all happen here for the annual State Fair in August.
This must really be hard for someone on the West Coast to understand. All you can say is you have to do it once. Woops, ending sentences with “once” is a Milwaukee-ism.

Schmidt’s cream puffs are legendary in these parts. If you are ever in the Columbus, OH area – visit their restaurant. Fortunately, and to the delight of many, they come to Cincinnati for Octoberfest! Interestingly, there was an occasion in Washington state that thinks there 127 people owns the record for most people doing the chicken dance. It does sound like you had a lovely weekend over these first days of fall. I noticed some rat-sized silhouettes behind my blinds that nearly made me suffer a coronary, but before I needed to call an ambulance, I realized that it was just a few autumn leaves that blew into my open window and landed at odd angles. Life crisis averted.

Remember that chicken dance – it was like plague all over Europe – it was terrible – impossible to avoid. Yes, Octoberfest is something very special and I think it’s really the only time a year that the German’s really let their hair down.
The Germans are such a hard working people and so determent – very correct people too. You don’t get anything for free in Germany, you have to work hard. So when Octoberfest comes they party for a week. Wonderful. Looking forward to see “Hot Spring” too .. brilliant actors. It seams you had a great weekend.

Slow weekend here highlighted by some salted chilli king prawns at a local Chinese establishment. Very good it was too. Spent part of Sunday reading a great piece by a favorite writer of mine Matt Tiabbi @ Rolling Stone. It’s all about they guy you are voting for as runner-up. It’s a long article but well worth a read for any politicos if you haven’t seen it already.

I get an online art newsletter and there was a nice tidbit about the Cincinnati Art Museum. They seem to be having a banner year. More than 300,000 visitors this year so far. So, a toast to all things “Cincy”.

Chicken dance? I’ll pass. As a musician who played far too many wedding receptions before I retired in that arena, I must say that I have a particular dislike for both the song and the dance. An instance of being a musical “curmudgeon” – hazard of the job 🙂

I think your weekend was even busier than mine, Frank, but I would have enjoyed every activity you mentioned. The Oktoberfest celebration sounds really fun! And fall weather is surely welcome. In the video you posted – Art is a guy in the video who won (at least three) medals for (I think) the chicken dance. Homer Simpson is one of the guys/girls onstage in a costume who looks very uncomfortable! 🙂
