On an Awesome Start

With Thanksgiving 2012, how did you celebrate the holiday?

We went cross state to my sister-in-law’s for a few days. Besides the grand meal and visit, we went downtown Cleveland for our first-ever visit to the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Interesting place … but because we had limited time, we actually needed more time to enjoy some of the films. Also experienced a little snow on the way back to the house.

Nonetheless, we avoided the major shopping venues both here and there – but I did purchase 20 gallons of gas priced at 10.9 CENTS per gallon!

Because this is a back-to-normal week, might as well start with something abnormal – a drummer with no hands and limited arms. (Thank you Fasab for finding this one, and sorry this is a late edit.) Hope everyone has a good week!

  1. Holy cow! 10.9 cents a gallon? I think I would’ve filled up the tank, the trunk, the passenger compartment, and whatever else I could find! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
Had a nice, quiet Thanksgiving, followed by the wife working long hours and me schlepping wood. And I’ve managed to collect yet another stray – a cat this time, and oddly, male. (I tend to attract females – just not human ones. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) I think our cat collection may reach eight – if I can convince a couple of the existing ones to play nice! (Our coward cat was the first to meet the new guy, while the easy-going male that looks VERY similar threw a hissy fit – go fig.) Always something bizarre around here. ๐Ÿ˜€
Glad to hear you had a good weekend. We need to get up to Canton to check in with an air museum we’ve visited in years past. Maybe if I’m a good boy, I can convince the wife for an extra day for the Hall of Fame!
    Have a good week!

    • John E,
We were limited to 20 gallons – which was enough to fill my wife’s car and about 3/4 of mine.

Not only can I not imagine shopping last weekend, I fathom working in retail! Meanwhile, good luck with the new cat that charmed his way into your life! And OH … Canton has an air museum? Thanks for sharing.

      • The place is called “MAPS” – the name is an acronym. If you want further info, I can dig it up for you. Small, but nice, and with the last B-26 Marauder ever made – one of my favourites!
Might I ask what your wife drives? 20 gallons to fill 1 3/4 tanks – gotta be around 12-15 gallon capacity tanks. (Don’t worry, I won’t bite if you mention a Japanese or other foreign make. Just try to avoid the F-bomb, okay? ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

  2. glad you guys had a good time for Thanksgiving. As you know, we don’t have that here, but it was nice to see all the people I know in the US having a good time with their friends and families.

Amazing video – inspiring – that should be a wake up call to perfectly able bodied kids who don’t do anything cos it’s ‘all too hard’

  3. How is it possible to have bought petrol so cheaply? Was this an illegal dealing? I’m glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. A little snow would have be so pretty (from someone who longs to see snow!) xx

    • Spiced,
Cleveland sits on one of the Great Lakes. After Thursday’s beautiful weather, the front came through bringing cold winds off the lake … and then some light lake-effect snow. Fortunately, not messy.

Nothing illegal on the petrol … just a nice gift from the credit card company. Thanks for commenting.

  4. I had a client in Cleveland for quite some time, visited the Hall of Fame a couple of times to take it all in, think I still missed some of it.

We had great weather here, in the seventies so we sat outside and watched on of our sneaky Armadillos tearing up the yard. My dog is so old she just sits on the porch with us and watches, dumb dog. Kids were at my house for T-day dinner, wonderful time of it.

No shopping for me. I don’t do that, to many crazed people out. Glad you had family time and a safe drive home!

    • Val,
Nothing like sitting on the porch watching armadillos! Glad the kids were able to visit on Thursday … and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the R&R HOF … seems I must return for more. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Frank, that video was fabulous — thank you. It is good to see what some folks can overcome when some of us grouse about more mundane things.

Sounds like your TG was great. Mine was pretty good, too. And the vegan- vegetarian-militant-bird-lover behaved herself!

  6. Seen the video before, but you can’t watch things like that often enough. It is so refreshing to see someone making the best of what they have rather than whinging on about how life owes them something.

The snow was just enough to remind us that we’re entering the season. Then again, last year was unbelievably mild! Oh well … time will tell…. gotta love you drum roll line! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for commenting.

  7. Hi Frank, It’s so important to celebrate Thanksgiving with family. Sounds like you had a busy weekend.

Geez that’s a very thoughtful Thanksgiving gift from your gas credit card!

The video is unbelievable and inspiring and awesome…

  8. Love, love, love the kid on the drums. Wow!

So you went to hang out in the place of my birth, huh? It was odd to go back and see the Rock H of F in that area of downtown when I went back once in 40 years. “The Cleve” will always be more of an ache than a destination place for me, but glad to see others can journey there and enjoy it. Way too many demons for me . . .

T-Day was awesome at the Tomczyk house! One of the things I was overwhelmingly grateful for was having escaped Cleveland! ๐Ÿ™‚ Take care.

    • E-Tom,
I recall some of your posts about your youth, so I understand a little of you seeing The Cleve as an ache. But when we’re in town, we’re mainly in the burbs. Glad you had a bountiful Thanksgiving … glad you enjoyed the drummer, and thanks for stopping by.

  9. when i drive out to this year’s Ebertfest film festival in illinois, i’m going to try building in some time for a drip to the RnR hall of fame. i hear it’s great, but i’m not sure how much extra time that will demand.
