On a Backwards Monday

As storms belted the central US, humid air with scattered rain enveloped Cincinnati this weekend. How was your weather?

We had a full weekend involving a ballroom night, a church wine group gathering, and hosting my in-laws to celebrate my mother-in-law’s 85th birthday.  How was your weekend?

Chocolate and Wine was the theme at the wine event. The host had this interesting activity. They purchased 12 high-quality chocolates (most were flavored), and then broken them into bite-size bits. The samples were numbered 1-12, plus each participant received a “checklist” that included 12 short descriptions as “Sea salt and almonds, 45% cacao, Belgium” – thus everyone’s task was to match the descriptions to the samples.

On to the current task at hand. As humid air remains, temps are expected to reach 88 F (31 C). Hot, muggy weather is not my favorite. Because I hope that temperatures go in the other direction, enjoy this creative clip from Dancing with the Stars. Watch carefully – and have a good week!

  1. Yeah, I just saw the weather forecast for the week. Gonna have to hibernate until Friday, looks like. I just hope the idiots at Always Erratic Power … um … American Electric Power don’t screw with our service. We’re coming up on the 1 year anniversary when the town got CLOBBERED with a bad storm, knocking out most folks’ power for almost two weeks. (We lucked out, being one of four houses spared because we were on a separate circuit they put in for the new sewerage pumping substation. Who thought I’d ever by grateful to poop? 😉 )
You know, I’ve been talking about doing some heating duct work down in the nice, cool basement. Maybe it’s time to roll up the sleeves and pull out the duct tape for its’ proper use! 😀
    Stay cool!

    • E-Tom,
The IRS has a big presence here, including the office for the group dealing with those exemptions. My plan is to have a post about the situation tomorrow. Glad you enjoyed the backward video.

  3. “Hot, muggy weather” is what we’re experiencing here too – not nice at all!
Lets hope our week clears up with a light and refreshing north wind!
Happy Monday and new week, Frank and Happy Birthday to your mom-in-law!
    🙂

  4. Good dance routine and I was impressed with the professional level of the dancers. I’m guessing they’re skilled enough for New York Broadway shows. Am I right?

  5. Thanks for that amazing video …. Watched it twice – you have some amazing dancers over there … best in the world I dare to say. Wine & chocolate – wish I been there – Belgium chocolate one of the best in the world. The chocolatier shops in every street corner and so beautiful displayed … escape for an addict like me. I hope that the weather will become more pleasant soon. Have problems to handle muggy weather too.

  6. Love the weather! Houston weather (home), quite wonderful I miss home.

The chocolate game sounds quite fun Frank, did you guess the all right? You are very good at guessing games.

I loved the dance video! The combination of good dancing and special effects was fun.

    • Val,
I missed four … probably some due to the fact I was rushing (last one to do it). Getting by mixed up still bothers me.

Years ago I was in Houston during August. WOW … now that was humid!!!!!

  7. I wish we were having unseasonably warm weather. I wouldn’t even mind humidity. I’m so tired of being cold. Each time the sun pokes out the clouds take over. Grrrrr! Love the chocolate game. I’m rubbish at picking out flavors, but would do my best. chocolate is chocolate.

    • TBM,
Good news is that some of the flavors are strong enough that they are no doubters. I’m not a high humidity fan … then again, it’s all a matter of a comparative point.

  8. I love chocolate, Frank. That sounds like a great event! I was at a photography workshop all weekend and it was fabulous. I learned a lot and filled in a lot of gaps in my photo knowledge. The weather is beautiful here – mid 70s and sunny with afternoon showers. Just about perfect!

    • Cathy,
Because you like chocolate, keep the activity I described in mind for a future event. Mid 70s with sun and the mountains sounds wonderful! Great to hear the workshop was time well spent!

  9. Hello Frank! Loved the video. The weather here in Canada was rainy and cool, but no snow! I give thanks for small things. 🙂

  10. I don’t care much for hot and humid either, but I’m gonna have to learn to like it since that’s typical summer weather for the Eastern Shore. I was treated to a rainbow early this morning which doesn’t quite make up for the heat and humidity, but it’s something. 🙂 How did you do on matching the chocolates with their descriptions?

    • Peter,
Welcome first-timer commenter. Although I may complain about my humidity, it’s not even close to your area. Although it is further south, I recall a July 4th in West Palm Beach … whew … that was humid!

  11. We don’t have much humidity, Frank, but I’ve traveled enough to know what it feels like. I think it really saps the energy! Sadly, I think weather was the story of the day, and I feel so badly for Oklahomans I don’t think I’ll complain much about weather this week! I’m a little behind in my reading tonight. The WP reader wasn’t cooperating with me the last two days. I had huge gaps and the days were all mixed up! 🙂

    • Debra,
Horrible news from Oklahoma. Hats off to the first responders and thoughts & prayers for all.

Regarding the humidity, while at the national handbell convention here last summer, a summer storm rolled through producing much rain and lightning … it was quite the light show. During the storm, met a lady from LA who had never seen lightning before … and she was amazed.

      • The first time we encountered REAL lightning on a trip through the south, I was truly frightened. We were in the car and I couldn’t wait to get indoors. I’ve never forgotten that! It’s true, we don’t have real weather. We get very excited when anything changes at all!

  12. Hot, humid, muggy weather here, too Frank! All weekend – the minute you walked out of the door you became drenched in sweat! We had some major storms blow through last night – I just got my power back on not too long ago…(weather is such an interesting topic!) Internet is sketchy – Happy 85th birthday to mother-in-law!
