On Politics
The recent gathering of the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference demonstrates what this group does not understand. After all, their speakers included Donald Trump, Herman Cain, and Sarah Palin.

It is interesting to watch Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) dance between trying to be an immigration reform leader and a potential presidential candidate.

Although it will not happen, I would support amending the Constitution to change the terms of our elected officials: Representatives 3-year terms limited to 3 terms; Senators: 5-year terms limited to 2 terms; President 6-year terms limited to 1 term.

Is anyone dismayed by the latest news that Capt Crunch is not a captain, but a commander? For those who did not know, US Navy captains have four stripes, but Commander Crunch only has three.

While on the topic of crunch, cheers to Nestle for their limited edition Crunch bars with Girl Scout cookies. Gotta love those Thin Mints.

Given the any flap involving celebrity chef Paula Dean, I never liked her show.

Here is some handbell music for those wondering if handbells can do pop music.

A reminder that Friday is National Flip-Flop Day, Saturday is Stupid Guy Thing Day (or is it Stupid Guy-Thing Day), and Sunday is Pink Flamingo Lawn Ornament Day.

There will be a Saturday Morning Cartoon post this weekend.

Are you go to a wedding this weekend? After all, June is a popular month for weddings. I will send you into the weekend with this one from The Piano Guys. Have a good weekend. In the words of Garrison Keillor, Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.

  1. I kind of like your 6-year, one-term limit for president. Think of how much more could get done if so much time wasn’t spent on him (or her…) running for reelection.

I haven’t stopped by to say hi in a while. So, Hi Frank. 🙂

Hi there … and I have to remind my wife about your book sale being is progress. I told her earlier, but she asked me to remind her tomorrow evening. Hope all is well with you … and thanks for the hello!

  2. June weddings aren’t popular down here! We prefer to have them in the Spring. Now that we’ve just had the shortest day, we’ll be heading into the wedding season within a few months xx

  3. Oh dear, my internet is so slow here today. I only got ‘dribs and drabs’ of the handbell music, but enough to hear that they’ve got a really good rhythm going. I wear flipflops every day in paradise, even in mid winter. 🙂 That was a really mean lawn. I’m not surprised the dad was upset. 😆

  4. I agree with the term limits, especially for the President. I hate all the money and electioneering that takes place instead of running the country.

  5. Loved the video and the bells.

The Onion, so bad. I will not give away the secret of why I am saying this. Loved the articles this week, all of them. I am going to get a copy of the John Hay book, I think it sounds fascinating despite the lukewarm review.

    Have a lovely weekend!!

    • Val,
I like the book reviews because despite the review, one can learn about the topic and serve as a guide to learn more (if interested).

If memories serves me correctly, you are a Piano Guys fan! … and just so you know, the Bill Nye article was my fav.

  6. Re the Onions – Never was able to figure out whether Nye is trying to be funny or just funny and the rhinoceros story is just wrong, but my fav is the Nation currently more sympathetic to demise of Planet Krypton than plight in Syria because it’s actually true!
As well as a cap on electioneering spending the idea of a single term Presidency is a good one since far too much of the first term is squandered trying to get elected for a second term.
The Piano guys were good as always and as for perpetual motion, the stupidity of the human race must be one example???

  7. At first glance I like your term limit ideas. I look forward to discussing your hoped-for results when we play Stonelick Hills.

The handbell piece with drum set was pretty good, but I’d like to hear it with a bass guitar line added.

  8. Very funny pic of FLOTUS with the rhino. Also you know I always love the Piano Guys. As you know, I’ve been away for awhile and really missed your blog.

Speaking of blogs, you asked for the wineries we visited (all in Napa):

    1. Hall Winery, 2. Venge Vineyards, 3. Salvestrin Winery, 4. Allora Vineyards, and 5. Reverie Winery (The top two were Hall and Allora–which had the best Petite Sirah). All the best.

    • E-Tom,
That pic of FLOTUS is perfect evidence showing that this is true!

Thanks for the winery list. Interestingly, I haven’t been to any of these, nor do I know them … but I trust you taste!

  9. Being out of town for several days and totally away from the news, you really got me with the Bill Nye article! I thought he had really died! LOL! I like the onion title, “Dad can’t believe lawn didn’t get him anything for Father’s Day.” And I’ll gladly support your idea of changing elected terms! Sounds good to me!

  10. As always I am cheered by your posts. And I am a bit shocked about the scandal over Captain Crunch–and his long term deception. Oh my. But then I also heard that Twinkies will be back on shelves soon. I do not eat either item–well, haven’t since I was a kid so it may just seem like forever–but it somehow seems right that they are on the shelves giving kids too much sugar! Than handbells were great!

    • Patti,
The new company is doing the right thing by holding back Twinkies, which builds interest for their return – and I say, rush on sales!

Here’s the first Captain Crunch commercial!
