On the Dog Days of August

Welcome back! Sure hope you had a good weekend. What did you do?

Our weekend was abnormal. Between having a garage sale, family visiting from out-of-town, and errands meant no dancing for us. I also missed the Cincinnati Brew Ha-Ha Festival, America’s largest beer and comedy festival.

Preparation for the garage sale threw me for a loop last week. After all, I forgot to alert you that this past weekend was a chance to celebrate Waffle Day, Whisky Sour Day, Go Topless Day, and Kiss & Makeup Day.

Never fear because here’s this week’s celebrations:

  • (Mon) National Dog Day, Women’s Equality Day
  • (Tues) The Duchess Who Wasn’t Day
  • (Wed) Radio Commercials Day, Race Your Mouse Around Icons Day
  • (Thurs) More Herbs Less Salt Day, According to Hoyle Day, National Scarcoidosis Awareness Day, and (for some reason) a second chance to celebrate National Whisky Sour Day

Because of its hot, dry, humid days, August is known as the dog days. Besides needing some rain, the heat and humidity will crank up for us this week. I hate that kind of weather!

In honor of National Dog Day, I think puppies are a good choice to start the week with a smile. Enjoy … and have a great week!

  1. We went to our annual Art in the Park. We don’t really buy anything anymore (we have in the past–no wall space left…) other than kettle corn and rootbeer floats, but it’s fun to look around.

    • Carrie,
Art in the Park sounds like a wonderful event. One community near us is having one in two weeks, so we may attend … although we don’t need anything at the moment. Cheers to kettle corn and rootbeer floats!

    • I came upon this comment shortly after wandering around our house, thinking about the plethora of art (?) which conceals my walls, also. Perhaps I need to do a photo-blog about it. I’m still trying to figure how to smuggle an e-copy of your book north of the 49th parallel. (Actually 43rd where we live.) I may have to wait for our next Detroit trip and purchase a paper version. 😀

  2. Oh this is soooo cool….my friend Rosemary and I practiced a couple of new-to-us piano duets. We keep saying we are really really good. We may begin to believe that we are….
Moved furniture around in my bedroom…only because I can. Found some prime garage sale items….what’s your address again?
    Thanks, Mr. FA…you are the Toot’s Potatoes….

  3. I loved the Scotties, too! The weather was great out here, Frank, so of course, I took advantage of it by holing up inside a movie theater. I saw “The Grandmaster” a biopic about the martial arts master, Ip Man. I felt very energized afterward although I did narrowly miss colliding with a lamppost.

  4. Thanks for reminding that today is National Women’s Equality Day. The article in today’s Cincinnati Enquirer pointing out that last year in the U.S. there was a 1.4 to 1 ratio of women to men enrolled in higher education, speaks mega-volumes when one realizes that it wasn’t that long ago that many banks required women to have their husbands’ written permission before being issued a credit card!

  5. Who wouldn’t love National Dog Day? But still, the dog days of summer are a lot less pleasant. Sorry to hear the heat is making a come-back. My sister tells me that Lexington has been relatively cool this summer, especially compared to last year. God, that was a killer! Stay cool!

    Hugs from Ecuador,
    Kathy

  6. Puppies! 🙂 Happy Monday, Frank. I think I’ll celebrate the Duchess Who Wasn’t Day (since I’m obviously not a duchess, it seems appropriate). We’ve been experiencing cooler weather for a change, but I hear the dog days are returning.

  7. LOVED the Scotty pinwheel! Cutest thing ever! We had a nice weekend – watched and photographed the big bike race that came through town and went to our favorite Tapas restaurant for dinner on Saturday – yumm!

    • Sunshine,
It was one of the odd weekends of limited dancing. Oh well … it occasionally happens. It was good to get rid of stuff at the garage sale, and we made enough for a new cell phone! Enjoy the whisky sour this week!

  9. Sounds like you had a full weekend. Ours was not too busy. We did hit Six Flags again. For the kids – that’s always nice when there is nothing else to do. And – I got on a ride too 🙂
    Weeeeeeeee…
Hmm… National Dog Day & Women’s Equality Day on the same day…?
    Happy Monday – Happy Week!

  10. Women’s Equality Day? LOL! Give me a break…save the ‘Day’ for someone who actually needs it, and put the equality on my paycheck. 😉

Cute video…but only because I don’t have to clean up after them!! 😀

  12. That Cincinatti festival sounds wonderful Frank (sorry you missed it!) but oh, the puppies stole the show. I truly felt so sorry for that mum who wanted time out (the first vision). Oh, poor mum…

But seeing grown men go all soft and giggly about puppies – I LOVED that. Thank you 🙂 🙂 🙂
