Opinions in the Shorts: Vol. 203

On Politics
Last week, Sarah Palin spoke about Pope Francis, “He’s had some statements that to me sound kind of liberal, has taken me aback, has kind of surprised me,” Newsflash to the Nincompoop – Jesus was one of the most liberal people ever! However, she did justify her comment with “… unless I really dig deep into what his messaging is, and do my own homework, I’m not going to just trust what I hear in the media.”

Martin Brashir’s (MSNBC) comments regarding Nincompoop were not only unprofessional and unnecessary, they weren’t worth his time.

Whereas Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) isn’t sure Gov. Chris Christie’s (R-NJ) GOP brand will sell across America, I don’t believe Gov. Perry’s brand will sell.

Even though Republicans currently have some momentum, I don’t think they can handle it. Here’s columnist Kathleen Parker’s take.

With the Senate changing a rule, the fact that not that long ago roles were reversed, which means what each party says is also reversed. That probably means they did the right thing.

Hmmmm … Senators Graham (R-SC) and McCain (R-AZ) were against Susan Rice becoming Secretary of State, but favor her stance regarding Egypt over Secretary of State John Kerry’s, who they supported for the cabinet post.  (A read here)

Sorry, Mr. President, I disagree. You say the healthcare rollout mess is not about politics, but I say Washington is about politics 99% of the time, and your comment does not fall within the 1 percent.

Although I continue to separate issues regarding healthcare.gov and the law itself, I did notice a spin change from the website will be fixed by November 30th to the website will be working much better by then. To me, the spin is reminiscent of Baghdad Bob’s clueless rhetoric.

Cheers to The Onion for discovering President Obama’s plans for fixing the Affordable Care Act.

Given the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination, information about November 22, 1963 has been more than bountiful. Interestingly, overshadowed in the news that day was the death of two other famous people: Aldous Huxley (author, Brave New World) and C.S. Lewis (intellectual writer of Christianity)

Here is my 2008 reflection about the Kennedy assassination.

  1. Yep, you’re right–Martin didn’t need to go there. His going there will never make the Nincompoop see the light about the falsehood of the things she says. I actually know people who know her and are egging her on in “the name of Jesus.” It is awful!

You’re right that it’s politics regarding the ACA facilitation, and I don’t see it ever ending. Sigh!

Thanks for the great song. I remember this well. Cheers!

    • E-Tom,
Hey hey hey .. she has risen from the depths of her writing! 😉 … Does WW still recognize you?

Oh my my, because you know people who are egging her on, do they know the use of “Nincompoop”? Tell WW I said hello … hmmm … I got an idea … changing your name to BB.

      • Barely–WW is enforcing a break after the book launches before I start on the second one. He’ll get no argument from me. I’m fried!

As to knowing people who know the Nincompoop, it is a long story, listed under the title: “When good Christians, with a lot of power, go bad.” It’s awful–just awful and all part of that Dominionism stream. They have all become Nincompoops. It is one of the reasons WW and I have become so disillusioned with the Church. Sigh!

  2. Have the conspiracy theories of Kennedy’s death now come to an end or are they still on going.?? I do agree with the Dancing with the Stars comment, I do hate to see good dancers loose their spot because of more popular people who are not progressing as they should…

  3. Ah, a Nincompoop reference that again, reinforces her name – to her own admission!!??!-who is questioning someone who actually is one of the first Popes in a while to dare live in the present? Tsk, tsk. She will ride the money train as long as she can. In the meantime – maybe consider actually learning something useful to the American people? I can shoot, too, but I can’t see Russia from my back door–guess that’s why they didn’t pick me. 😦

As to the politics? Interesting, that. Transparent, too. Just saw Skakel was released today. No coincidence on the date there, either. (But I’m not expressing an opinion as to his release, I can’t say I’ve followed it other than seeing some movie about it, so that doesn’t count.)

  4. as for “it’s a wonderful life,” i think it’s a sequel, not a remake, which is better but still bad. i can honestly say right now that i won’t watch it. just yet another example of hollywood’s inability to come up with anything new.

i’ll go with mariana trench. happy friday.

  10. You should think about doing an occasional piece called “Nincompoopery” highlighting some of the dumbest political statements of the month. I don’t think you’d a lot of bother finding entries!

  11. You know, I should probably NOT admit this…but I have never seen the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life” – I heard them talking about the sequel on the radio, on the way to work the other morning – they were BASHING the mere idea of it…am I missing a good movie, Frank?

    • Hood,
It’s a Wonderful Life is a classic old movie and great for the holidays. One of the networks shows it now, thus full of commercials, so see if you can get it elsewhere … heck, you may have a friend who has it. Definitely a good story, and the happy ending chokes me up a bit.
