On Enchanted to Remember

Wedding

That was August 23, 1952. Their wedding eventually led to their daughter introducing me to them before a college football game in the fall of 1974. We married in April 1977. August 2012 was their 60th anniversary celebration, and the delightful footnote that the entire wedding party was still alive.

My mother-in-law loved both of these songs. A toast to a good person with the gentile heart that everyone enjoyed and respected. We will miss her, but the love and memories she gave us will last forever.

  1. At the risk of sounding like a jerk I’m glad you had a wonderful mother-in-law and the songs you chose are not from Ernie K. Doe. Like my fellow commenters I’m sorry for your loss. Lovely tribute to someone so dear.

  2. Her struggle is over and she is at peace and those left feel her love and support during your time of grief. A sweet tribute, Frank. Thank you for letting us know. I am very sorry for your loss.

  3. Frank, what a wonderful son-in-law you are; I can’t think of a better tribute to someone than sharing their favorite music with others. I had a few tears in my eyes as I listened to these two beautiful songs and I had the distinct sense that your mother-in-law was smiling at all so many people listening to her favorite songs. Sorrow and joy are not all that distant from one another. My thoughts are with you and your family.

    • Lynn,
This evening we had CDs playing for dinner, and I couldn’t believe me ears as these two songs played back-to-back and in the same order. That was a Wow moment. Not only thanks for confirming my intent in this post, many thanks for the kind words and support.

I would be lying if I said today was easy because it was exhausting – but we made it … and even had times of laughter! Yes, a large hole, but positive memories will fill that hole!!! Thanks for the support.

I used that photo in 2012 when mentioning the grand anniversary party we had for their 60th, so heck, why not use it again! Yes, she’s definitely at peace now, which to us is very important. Thanks for the hugs!!!

    • Sylvia,
Interestingly, as we were having dinner, and coincidentally, those two songs were played back to back in the same order. Yes, they had a wonderful life together. The way I see it is that in her 1026-month life, she had pretty good one except for the last 5 months. Thanks for the support!

    • E-Tom,
Thanks for the kind words. An oddity is that (unknowing to me), they have a CD with these songs being back to back … I know because the other night it was on, and I looked at my SIL with the “did you notice the last 2 songs” look.

  9. Somehow I knew. Words can’t really help, but she must have been a wonderful person – look at the family she gathered. Those songs are a perfect match for the picture. They had timeless meaning. I can see why she and so many love them. Peace and hugs, Frank.
You have been in our thoughts and prayers although visible here.

Well … my inactivity probably spoke volumes to those like yourself. A week later as I look at this post, I still smile with the thought of knowing this was a fitting tribute to a wonderful person. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.
