We had fantastic weather this past weekend … all in advance to what appears to be a rainy week ahead. Tell us about your weekend.
Our weekend included ballroom time, exploring some new trails and sights. and playing handbells at the dedication service of our church’s new sanctuary. I was able to play through the elbow problems as I used some creative problem solving to reduce the stress on the elbow ligaments.
Life: The Musical – Act 3 is on the docket this week with the curtain rising on Wednesday at 9:30 PM (US Eastern). This week’s also has a twist. Song titles must include a first name .. but first names can only be used once.
Celebrations for your week
- (Week) Scoop the Poop Week, Air Quality Awareness Week, Tattoo Week, Forest Week, Lingerie Week, Intergenerational Week, TV Turn-off Week, Volunteer Week, Consumer Protection Week, Playground Safety Week, Big Brothers/Sisters Appreciation Week
- (Mon) Biological Clock Day, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Blueberry Pie Day
- (Tues) Dance Day, Peace Rose Day, Wish Day, Zipper Day, Shrimp Scampi Day, Gnocchi Day

Ballroom dancing you mean?
Gnocchi day… wait, there’s a day to celebrate chalky little mouth-roof sticking confections but not a day to celebrate well, like, other things? Gnocchi? I don’t even know what country those came from (Polish maybe?), but ugh. I think I’ll stick to Batman Day. I just watched the animated version of the Dark Knight Returns. It was awesome. Not as awesome as the seminar comics, but awesome all the same.

Trent,
Yep … we ballroom dance for pleasure … no performing … no competitions, just fun.
I love gnocchi. Today we associate them with Italian, but in my research, I found a source that tied them to the Middle East WAY BACK in time … but the Romans played an important role in spreading the goodness.

“Hairball Awareness Day”—Ha, such an important one.
So glad your elbow cooperated. I’m sure the bell music was lovely. 🙂

Carrie,
I looked for a recording of but couldn’t find one that I liked. “Gather Us In” is a popular hymn and we had a flute join us. I limited the swinging by flicking the clapper, which is OK with the lower notes.

Good to hear. I’m sure the flute was gorgeous. My sister plays the flute and has done so many times in her church.

The flute was a nice touch. Having other instruments accompany handbells is always interesting … Off the top of my head, we’ve done flute, trumpet, piano, organ, voice trios, and percussion,

Two requests this week, aFA, I’d like Monday’s Peace Rose Day because our Portland volunteer group worked on the rose beds this Saturday last , and mulched an adjacent park block that houses a wonderful statue of Abraham Lincoln.
Second pick: Thursday’s May Day since I’ll be in England celebrating birthdays (even my own) with friends. I’ll be gone a fortnight, aFA, but will think of you and Mrs. aFA while embracing my English friends with cups of flat white, afternoon scones slathered with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Carry on…

This time we beat you to the rain! It’s been raining most of the weekend and -with a small sunny break this morning- it looks like it’s going to be another couple of rainy days!
Beautiful April showers…
Happy new week, my friend. 🙂
PS: New Moon and Annular Solar Eclipse tomorrow.

Marina,
Interestingly, a storm is move into the area as I type this .. a good rumble of thunder happened about a minute ago.
Given that bass notes are commonly longer tones, I held the bell upright with my good hand, then flicked the clapper with my left hand … then could damp the note with my hand. … then when I had to ring with my left, my arm movement was much shorter.
Thanks for the FYI on the solar eclipse. Looks like one for the southern hemisphere, but it will still make the news.

We got out for some walks in the nicer weather. Then, Sunday pm, storms came thru with 2.3″ of rain and 50 mph winds. We’ve finished with them and have sent them to the east for your enjoyment.

They also knocked out power for an hour. We had candle-light with dinner of crackers, cheese, and a beer. The oven plan had to be scrapped.

It was a nice weekend here, Frank. Warm weather on Saturday which allowed for some timely garden time. The raised bed vegetable garden is now ready for planting. We also made a fabulous home-made pizza last night – roasted cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and an arugula pesto made with some volunteer arugula that I discovered while cleaning out the garden. Delicious!

That would also be great, although I put pecans in the pesto, so may just the proscuitto. 🙂

My weekend was pretty quiet. I’m still sleeping around….in my house, our waterbed has yet to be refilled, so finding a place to sleep is a challenge if I want to be comfortable. On a good note, the eldest is painting our room, so hopefully it will be finished by the end of the week (she paints after working all day) and I will not have to sleep around in my own house.

The weather was ok here. Yesterday was too windy to enjoy. And – wearing a dress (dressed up for church – a friend’s son’s communion) was quite a challenge.
We’re in a rain zone this week too. But – better rain than sn*w… 🙂
