On the First Monday Back

Greetings! This is the 223rd edition of Monday Morning Entertainment, yet the 222nd edition was for the first Monday in August. Whew … it’s been a while!!!

Being away for some time means there is much to share, but I’ll start with a traditional question – How was your weekend?

We returned from our road-trip vacation last Sunday, but this past week was filled with dance lessons, the final weeks of golf league, and a baseball game (the Reds won, but it has been a horrible season), which propelled us into a weekend roadtrip. After attending a college football game Friday night in downtown Cincinnati, we started our 200-mile (320-km) drive northward to attend another college football game (and about 14 hours separating the end of one game and the beginning of the next) … and then the 3-hour drive home after the game. We saw a lot of offense and two wins (58-34 and 45-42) … and it was good to be back on the campus where my wife and I meet. Both singing the alma mater and a win in the final seconds choked me up a bit. Sunday morning was a bit different as I watched, listened, and enjoyed to the handbell choir from the audience, but I don’t think anyone noticed I wasn’t playing (which is fine with me).

Although I probably won’t post everyday this week, Life: The Musical returns with Act 9 featuring a significant part of everyone’s life – Work … so song titles must include Work, Working, Worker, Worked, or any occupation – the latter widens the opportunities. However, an occupation can only be used once.  Get your songs ready because curtain goes up Wednesday, 9:30 pm (Eastern USA).

The previous post had a few pics from our vacation of undisclosed destination. Cheers to those picking out some of the locations. The stops on our trip were Kentuck Knob (a Frank Lloyd Write gem), Gettysburg PA (Civil War batttlefield), Cooperstown NY (Baseball Hall of Fame), Cornell University, Taughannock Falls, Finger Lakes Region (especially for wine & cheese), Grand Prix Festival (Watkins Glen NY), the Corning (NY) Museum of Glass, and Fallingwater (the Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece). 1. “Wife Appreciation Day”—I like the sounds of that!

Are you going to watch DWTS this season? Not sure yet if I’ll be able to invest the time. Sometimes I’ll set the DVR for it, and I can watch it in half the time. But it’s not the same as watching it live. Decisions, decisions…

  2. It’s quite a week ahead, Frank! I first read “Love Your Files Week” as “Love your FLIES Week”. Very glad I re-read that one, not to imply that I feel that over-the-moon about my files, but files are considerably more appealing than flies.

  3. Spacey is uniquely gifted, that’s for sure, but I’m wondering if it’s going to his head. I even see him in commercials. Nevertheless, I haven’t seen season 2 of House of Cards yet, and I’m a’gonna, on DVD. 🙂

Are you and your wife trying to catch the amount of kilometres hubby and I complete in four days ( normally) two days. If so, next time you may want to keep driving north and catch a football game try the Gator’s football games (my son’s university Bishop’s. The entire town of Lennoxville comes out for each game. It is quite the sight. I will even toss in free directions for you. 🙂

  5. Good morning Mr. Frank – nice to have you back. We’ll be celebrating Guacamole Day on Tuesday with a special chicken dish, oh so good and I can taste the Guacamole already! The TX Rangers are having the worst of the worst seasons and have lost their head coach “Washington” – no celebrations here. have a fantastic week.

    • Mary,
We’ll be down to join your for the Tuesday dinner! 😉 … Gotta wonder the pundits would pick as the biggest MLB disappointment this season as our two teams would be in the running with Audra’s Red Sox.

  6. That clip was a great way to start my day — I watched it a couple of hours ago, but only got around to commenting now.

Do I only get to celebrate Dog Week this week? It’s now always Dog week at our house and that’s just fine with me! But Wife Day I can definitely get on board with!

  7. Welcome back, Frank! I was just getting caught up with you. Looks like you had a good trip. I like the Ohiopyle region (where you found Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob). I see it’s Felt Hat Day so I’m going to go put mine on. 🙂

  8. Great road trip!

    Always glad you’re dancing.

You’re not to blame for the Reds 4th place finish (let’s hope they finish 4th!).

Looking forward to Life: The Musical, Act. 9/work/occupations.

    Don’t worry about stats!*

*Mark Twain’s phrase, as noted by Robert Giffen in 1892, was a variation on a phrase about three types of unreliable witnesses, a liar, a damned liar, and an expert (Economic Journal 2 (6) (1892), 209-238, first paragraph; the paper was previously read at a meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science at Hobart in January 1892).”

  9. Welcome back! Nothing is more fun than a road trip to a college football game. (It really must be fall)
DVD is wonderful – no longer rushing to get home for a show…and able to zap through the commercials.
So many things to celebrate! Thank you Day should get top billing. So thank you Frank!

    • Mouse,
We were over-the-top by taking in not one, but two games in a short span, so whew … we made it …. and even survived a lot of points and offense in both games … heck, that’s exhausting! 🙂 … But when the good guys win each, it’s a good thing. …. and oh yes yes yes …. DVR for zipping through commercials!!! …. and Thank You Mouse for the cheer.
