How many of the characters in the line can you name? The words to sing along are below the video.
Overture, curtain, lights!
This is it. The night of nights.
No more rehearsing or nursing a part.
We know every part by heart!
Overture, curtain, lights!
This is it. We’ll hit the heights!
And oh, what heights we’ll hit!
On with the show, this is it!
Tonight what heights we’ll hit!
On with the show, this is it!”

I didn’t want to bring you down by being truthful–but I was put in an adult role as a child, so cartoons weren’t really part of my fare. My siblings watched, enjoyed them–so I’m at least familiar with some of the names.

It’s Saturday morning, and for the first time in six decades I am sitting here watching cartoons. Thanks, Frank. ( I could name them all….but my eyesight doesn’t do pixels well, first thing in the morning, so for “General Foods” I read “General Fools”)

I’ve probably said it here before, but ‘eye’, like so many, must confess to being indebted to Buggsy and his crew. Fun, escape, all it derived out of thin air or so my right ‘eye’ imagined. Theater of the Absurd, yet graspable.
And this appeared in the ad space below your post http://www.beyondplumcreek.com/shtufffs/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/stratford-festival-advertisement.jpg . Bugs Bunny Shakespearean? Why not. Happy Saturday, Frank.

Good way to start a lazy (for once!) Saturday. I knew them all, Frank, thanks to my early years of a Saturday cartoon diet with my older brothers in charge. In our pi’s in front of the tv with bowls of cereal and milk 🙂

Lynn,

These cartoons put today’s crop of animations to shame. I still will take time to watch them whenever I find them on TV.

They aren’t even comparable .. heck, I one who believes that cartoons started shifting in the late 60s-early 70s.

I loved this show, Frank, and the intro is so much fun, but I always thought that Daffy was dissed. He’s up there, singing and dancing his feathers off with Bugs and he’s not acknowledged! I did re-visit your tribute to my favorite waterfowl. This is possibly the best Daffy cartoon: http://vimeo.com/90596545

Lame,
Daffy is a great character, and I agree, seemed to not his due. Then again, if I recall, it took creators a while to settle on his personality. Duck Amuck is awesome!

I had completely forgotten about Hippity Hopper. I love these crazy characters. So many childhood memories are stirred by these cartoons. Children’s television today is so sophisticated and I really wish these cartoons were still the favorites today. With people my age, I think they are! 🙂

Hippity is one of those characters that many recognize, but don’t know my name … plus the confusion with Hoppity Hooper. Regarding today’s cartoons … well … there is a reason why the ones we grew up with are referred to as the Golden Age of Cartoons.

Is it wrong that I often mistake Elmer with Porky?

Leo,
I can see how that can happen … although all one must do is remember that the reason Porky looks like a pig is because he is a pig. Besides, Elmer Pig and Porky Fudd just don’t sound right.
