On November 2014

The month of November makes me feel that life is passing more quickly. In an effort to slow it down, I try to fill the hours more meaningfully. (Henry Rollins)

Take your pick of two versions of the same song: soft touch vs. edgy (but you can listen to both)

.

November, a month for autumn in the northern hemisphere, but a month for spring in the southern hemisphere

November, the eleventh month of the year was the ninth month in the 10-month calendar

November starts the same as March, yet ends the same day of the week as August – which happens every year – but November starts the same day as February only in common (non-leap) years.

November starts on the same day of the week as February in common years, and March every year; but November ends on the same day of the week as August every year

November has symbols as the Chrysanthemum (birth flower), and birthstones as topaz, Citrine or aquamarine

November’s zodiac starts with Scorpio (through Nov 21st), then ends with Sagittarius (starting Nov 22)

November comes and November goes,
With the last red berries and the first white snows.

With night coming early and dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket and frost by the gate.

The fires burn and the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest until next spring. (Elizabeth Coatsworth)

My sorrow when she’s here with me,

  1. The year is going much too quickly. I leave lovely Bagni di Lucca very soon to return to my other life. I think splitting my life the way I do makes it go even more quickly. I love this time of the year in both places.

  2. Definitely Edgy for me. It was middle child who, when learning to play the guitar years ago, got me hooked on Guns N’ Roses. I do believe I mentioned before, I am not a fan of John Denver, the Carolin No song was not all the bad. I am always impressed with your wide range of music. You would get along with middle child well.

  3. Happy November, Frank. I’m here celebrating Crohn’s and colitis month, catching up on blogs while I get my Crohn’s drugs. But otherwise I will celebrate sponges, Frank. Because so few people really take time to do that. 😂

    • Lame,
I keep this in mind … Time seemed to move slower when we were young because we were frequently anticipating something … but as we older, our lives are filled with getting things done. Meanwhile, one also needs to remember that time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana.

  4. Loved Carmine McRae. G&R brought back some good memories. November is a good month: a beautiful daughter of mine came into this world 🙂

Stay warm today..a true cold and blustery November day!

  5. And there is of course Gordon’s Wreck of The Edmund Frizgerald, ‘The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead. When the skies of November turn gloomy’. I’ve been on water, by myself, during snow storms in November. It is both scary and inspiring. November has a quality of light that no other month can match. I as drove yesterday I found myself paying more attention to the sky than the road, but I got home safe and half ass sound.

November 1st brought us our first snow flakes, oh joy. Thanks for November, Frank.
