Act 12
Life … the time for the living to live. One’s life starts when one is born. Shortly thereafter, we are given something that stays with us no matter where we go – a name. Immediately, we are nourished, so we grow physically, mentally, and emotionally from babies into young children … and that’s when we start to dream about our future life. Growth never stops, so from children we move on as teens .. but school is still much of life at this point.

Eventually, we move into adulthood as women and men with many things going on in our life. Whether its work, play, or family, life can be complicated, so many times we hope for the best. But one thing for certain – the vast majority of people want love. Act 12 features songs with love in the title.

Production Note
To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please 1) include the song title and artist in your text, and 2) paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.

Announcement
There is a bountiful list of possibilities to open Act 12 featuring love. Let go back to the 1985 with Robert Palmer … it’s Addicted to Love.

      • Whew, always a rush to get in ahead of another searcher. (Still can’t find a video for “Tennis must be your racket because you don’t understand love”….)
Looks like a great collection growing here – especially nice entertainment for staying indoors with the cold weather.
This one’s title is bound to cause a smile as it’s so true: “Love has made you beautiful” by Merle Kilgore. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8ou1GygysU
(grew up with this sort of music)

        • I was shocked – shocked to find that one and the Beatles songs weren’t immediately listed. (which is why I search the obscure…although my dad did sing one of those in the car on vacations)
North of Houston had snow flurries and in 20’s last night. We will hover around 35 here all day – wrapped palms late yesterday. We had snow on Christmas a few years back – but usually if it snows, it’s on Valentines day. Molly is thrilled and romping wildly – feeling now chill at all.
Hope you had warm blankets during that football game…there’s this outdoor wedding next week – at night! Do you think they’ll mind if I show up wrapped in a sleeping bag?
Thanks for the great video! Perfect

        • Wow .. .that is real cold for down there. Ouch! … I was dressed fine for last night, but not moving around when sitting in a seat makes it tough to stay warm. Oh well … it twas a crazy game … the last 5 minutes had 4 touchdowns and a field goal!

  1. “Love for Sale,” a song by Cole Porter, is from the musical The New Yorkers which opened on Broadway on December 8, 1930 and closed in May 1931 after 168 performances. Proclaimed by generations of jazz singers to be one of the most challenging jazz vocal standards to perform and interpret, the song is written from the viewpoint of a prostitute advertising various kinds of “love for sale”: “Old love, new love, every love but true love.” Here’s K.D. Lang singing Cole Porter’s masterpiece, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQOe3OrM9Uc

  3. Addicted to Love–me and my Triton Cockatoo used to dance to this tune. I wish I had taken a video of him bopping his head in time with the beat and flapping his wings while gripping my arm. He was quite the cool dude! 🙂

  4. Well, I could give you the song that M and I refer to as “our song” (Love Stinks by the J. Geils Band, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0LAs7X5ybE), but then I’ll have to explain why and it’s an inside, very personal, joke so I can’t explain why. When our youngest son was getting married, Mere (now his wife) asked us for “our song” to play at their wedding reception and we did, but I told her I didn’t expect it to be played (and it wasn’t). But it’s a family joke now so that makes it better yet.

Instead, how about Amado Mio (Love Me Forever) by Pink Martini: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hLsemDB7LM

  5. This is such a mesmerizing and original idea… I love the idea of a Musical featuring songs of about life. Judging for the descriptions of the 12th part I’ll conclude that Life is pretty much the same for all of us, regardless of the differences we might have as individuals… I think that this is clearly a cultural fact… The phases in Life are almost a sociological pattern!.
All the best you you Frank. Aquileana 😀

    • Aquileana,
Act 13 will be in a week or two … simply not sure when because of an upcoming, major holiday in the US. … but I usually announce the theme and date a few days ahead.

Last year I hosted Time: The Musical. This is is close to the end, but I imagine it will go into early 2015.

Good point about the commonality of lives throughout the work. Sure there are differences, but so many aspects are similar. Meanwhile, here’s a song for you … I’m going back in the Way-Back Machine to get this one … back to 1967 (long before you were even a thought) … 😉 Somebody to Love (Jefferson Airplane) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-0nrDLH7MM
