Connection: an early Rolling Stones song

Steve is a long-time friend, a good guy, and long-time photography enthusiast. It’s been a while since we’ve done a joint post. This time I picked the theme, wrote the text, then challenged him to provide the photos. See our other collaborations (Time and Waves) by going to the Sidebar > Categories > Photos by Steve or by clicking here.

I encourage everyone to visit his site to see his photos, which are available for purchase. He will also respond to comments here when he can, so feel free to ask him questions.

  1. I had to think about the ‘source of contraband’ and then realised it is probably that thing you sometimes hear slightly dodgy people say in movies ‘I have a connection who can …….’

I’m sorry, but I’m with Elyse on the song – it’s terrible! I suspect its the quality and the version – it might be quite good sung by somebody who can sing……. 🙂

The photos are great – I like the odd connections they make and the compositions. The last one ‘unhinged’ looks like a pen and ink drawing that might be found in an old edition of a Charles Dickens novel. It’s excellent work!

  2. I just visited Steve Ancik’s website. Wonderful stuff! I especially like the ways he angles his subjects – reminds me of Van Gogh, and also his color enhancements.

  5. What superb photography! I went to see Time and The Wave also. I found the Wave a bit disorienting.and surreal….couldn’t get any sense of scale..a bit like being stuck in a taffy-making machine or a bowl of mocha cake batter….the essay on Time, though, I thought was exquisite..a haunting balance of order and chaos…this same sense of moving-toward and moving-away pervades Connections… Thanks, Frank…and Steve!

  6. “Connection”, an outstanding example of how context is essential to understanding the English language, and also, perhaps, why Artificial Intelligence has been so elusive. Nicely done, Frank.

  7. Found it! 🙂 You might want to say [others have] ‘Lovely gal, but ever so slightly dim and much given to making rash assumptions.’ – thank you for your patience 🙂

It was not what I thought – isn’t it an amazing piece of natural art! I a pleased to hear human traffic is kept to a minimum – but even so being such a soft stone, damage is sure to happen.

Steve’s photography is beautiful – he has an artist’s eye. I am happy to have been introduced 🙂
