Happy December! … but the next post will toast the new month.
How was your weekend? For those in the US, how was your Thanksgiving holiday?
We drove to the opposite corner of the state (about 220 miles/354 km) for Thanksgiving at my SIL’s. Our small gathering of 9 had a good time. We avoid shopping on this holiday, so four of us played many hours of euchre on Friday .. well, actually 144 deals. Our end-of-the-day drive back to the hotel involved dealing with the snowy roads that hadn’t been plowed … but it was manageable.
After returning home on Saturday, we stayed in to watch some recorded TV shows. Because we didn’t get any ballroom rime, we took to the dance floor Sunday evening (something we normally don’t do).
Celebrations for your week
- (Week) Cookie Cutter Week, Festival of the Trees, Tolerance Week, Coelenterate Biology Week, Older Drive Safety Awareness Week, Clerc-Gallaudet Week, Aplastic Anemia Awareness Week, Hand Washing Awareness Week, Deaf Heritage Week
- (Mon) Eat a Red Apple Day, Pie Day, Cyber Monday, World AIDS Day, Rosa parks Day, Day With(out) Art Day, Civil Air Patrol Day, Bifocals at the Monitor Liberation Day
- (Tues) Apple Pie Day, Fritters Day, Giving Tuesday, Science Fiction Day, Coats for Kids Day, Special Education Day, Mutt Day, Abolition of Slavery Day
- (Wed) Special Kids Day, Roof Over Your Head Day, Make a Gift Day, Persons with Disabilities Day
- (Thurs) Cookie Day, Dice Day, Wear Brown Shoes Day, Hug Day, Wildlife Conservation Day, Lover’s Day, Santa’s List Day, Extraordinary Work Team Recognition Day
To start your week, here’s commercial that the US audience may know. The words make me laugh, so listen. Have a good week.
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving, Frank. We just flew home yesterday from my brother’s place in Washington. And man, are my arms ever tired. 😉

Carrie,
Glad you successfully returned home … so given the morning news about flights yesterday, you were one of the lucky ones!

That we were. The only thing not to make it home with us was my son’s toiletry case and, along with it, his retainer. Where they’re now located is anyone’s guess. Probably circling the luggage carousel in someone else’s suitcase. I hope the retainer at least got to go someplace warm.

Bummer … but in the big picture, not bad.

I’m glad that you had a pleasant holiday, Frank. Mine was slightly marred because my friend, Martini Max, came down with a MONSTER cold. I groused, “Staying with you, Max, is like being in an ebola ward!” He advised me, “Just take a Lysol bath when you get home.” I’m very thankful that he had nothing to do with the food prep.

Lame,
Hopefully the incubation period for what got Martini Max has passed! …. Nonetheless, I’m sure you enjoyed yourself!

Happy December to you. As for Thanksgiving, we had a good time visiting relatives once we got there. Knowing the state ferry would have long lines we decided to park and walk on, but all the lots near the ferry dock were full. We found a row of cars parked to the side of a little street a ways away with room for one more in the middle. The edge of the road had quite the ridge and parking was half on the road and half on weeds at the edge of a ditch. Our car being lower than the others parked there scraped bottom. We parked anyway and made it to the ferry dock before the boat left.

LB,
Good thinking regarding walking on to the ferry! But hey. you island people are used to working with those issues.

Tim,
Here ya go … Bifocals At The Monitor Liberation Day is for co-workers stuck wearing bifocals at the PC. Shed a tear as their heads bob up and down, in and out, trying to read the monitor, trying to decide which set of lenses to use.
… and yes, the new vehicle performed well.

Sounds like you had a lovely holiday, Frank. Me? I HATE Thanksgiving. 10 people, 4 different dietary restrictions plus two teens who don’t like anything. I cooked for 5 days. I am thankful to be back at the office!

Elyse,
Sounds like your group would be difficult for preparing. Any possibility of a new host to relieve your burden?

Nope. I’m stuck with it. A few years ago, though, John insisted we go to a restaurant as he didn’t want to hear me bitch about it. Apparently, I am learning restraint. Or my husband has gotten cheaper!

OK … your stuck … and learning restraint as well. Gotta ask … what are the dietary issues.

But, it’s over. I have to keep remembering that!

How annoying it would be if you couldn’t celebrate apple pie day on Tuesday because you’d eaten the red apples you were going to use to make it on Monday! These celebratory days need to coordinate themselves better.
Our cat died this morning 😦 but I got a smile from your cat commercial 🙂

Vanessa,
Our hearts go out to you on the loss of your pet. That is so difficult, (and I don’t do well with that). Meanwhile, it would be cruel for a prankster to eat the apples that were meant for the pie!

Red Apple Pie has competition because Granny Smith apples make the best pie. Meanwhile, I think I know which will be your favorite song in my tribute to December post.

Glad to hear that you had a great Thanksgiving (I haven’t heard the term euchre since I left Ohio–no one knows how to play it in Virginia). Our T-Day was peaceful, full of joy, and the turkey was better than ever. I think the absence of meat has made the taste grow fonder or something. Anyway, happy get-ready-for-Christmas good times.
