On the 2014 Gift Basket Party

Welcome to my 2014 Holiday/Christmas Party for my friends, their guests, and whoever stops by!

In the spirit of the holiday season, this gathering is for everyone: Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics, and others. I say everyone because I’m a firm believer that the majority of the world is good – and that is in spite of all the crap we get from the news each and every day … so peace and goodwill to the global community of goodness!

My wish is for guests to get a gift and mingle with others – which also means gifts can be traded! Then again, it may be the perfect gift for someone you know.

Plus, there’s more …. Santa will arrive around 3:00 PM Sunday (Eastern US) to allow everyone to state their wishes. He’ll be in the Comments, so reply to him there.

The Comments area will also serve as the Entertainment Stage, so stay tuned.

This is going to be a bit crazy for both readers and hosts, so I request your patience!

Overview

  • Behind each number is a surprise gift.
  • Only one gift per person.
  • Once the number (gift) is taken, it’s no longer available (next note is important)
  • While I hope to strike-through taken numbers, I must sleep and run errands – so I request readers check the comments before taking a number. (See the Update note above the numbers for my strike-through progress.)

Directions

  1. Pick (click) an available number for your surprise gift.
  2. In your comment, type your number (hopefully on its own line so all can see it).
  3. Tell everyone about your gift.
  4. If necessary, bargain a trade with someone else.

Positive cheers to all in the spirit goodness for the season! Have fun!!!!

  1. Ah it appears I am the first one to the party. I have most excitedly chosen present number 1.

My gift is a Super Sweet Onion Nalgene Water Bottle valued at $12.oo. Being an avid camper I will never take this priceless water bottle with me since it reeks of onions. Now I am not ungrateful, I just don’t want to scare the bears off with me breath.

Hey hey hey … it’s one of those crazy Canadians! For some reason I’m not surprised that you were the first to arrive! And knowing that you enjoy camping so much, this is perfect for you. Synergy must be in the air as you were drawn to #1 like a magnet!

  2. SUPERB GIFT, aFa, HOW DID YOU KNOW? I chose #67 and received the Onion’s framed and matted screeching headline: “Supreme Court Overturns ‘Right V. Wrong’.” It is the right size and colour. It looks good on me and doesn’t make me look like a chunkey-monkey. I wear it well. If anyone out there is thinking about a trade or out-and-out thievery…
    don’t. Just don’t.
    Thank you, Frank.

Cheers to Iowa for being in the house … and one who loves astronomy and hiking as well!

Oh that’s too much … but didn’t she get that last year? Then again, maybe she needs a replacement because it was showing its wear.

YAY … I got a fabulous gift. I’m going to be selfish and keep it. It’s perfect.
It’s The End Bookend. You all have to know that I love to read. Ahhh … yes, I have a kindle for my reader now-a-days but this End Bookend is for those those special books I have in my collection of real books. Remember them ????
My clever – The End Bookend – will lend some dramatic structure to my personal library.
According to their description …. It’s made from strong steel that’s been precision-cut and handsomely powdercoated. So don’t be crushed by the weight of all your books – organize them!
WOW .. my books are going to be very happy!!!!
Now … is you’ll excuse me there are some rockin’ videos that I need to cut a rug with.
    Party Hearty …. !!!!! 😃 😍 😅 🎵 👠🎅🎄

  5. Oh my … what a surprise … it’s Chris, a Reds fan in Pennsylvania, and one of the Pioneers of my initiation to blogging. Wow … I’m touched, stunned, and happy all in one. One such a great choice more ways that one.

Hopefully you won’t need those bandages for the wounds that the 2015 season my provide. I think we’ll be ok as long as the GM used the latest moves to prepare the way for the next additions.

    • I’m not good at commenting all the time but I stop by regularly! As for the Reds, 2015 isn’t looking overly optimistic, esp. when you consider what the rest of the division has done so far. We need a big bat for the outfield, we need Bruce & Votto to be good, we need Bailey to not suck, we need Cueto to stay healthy, and we need some of the young pitchers to keep the ball in the ballpark. And we also need the Cubs to underperform, the Cardinals to finally stop performing, the Pirates to return to ineptitude, and the Brewers to go back to the bottom of the division. Sure seems like a lot of needs right now!

      • Well … that pretty much sums it up. I’m going to keep the course that with improved offensive production in LF, RF, and 1B, the Reds can contend. In other words, I’m thinking recent trades were done as a setup to address LF – but time will tell. Last year, GM Walt said that the answer to the offensive woes was to get more out of the guys they had … and that surely worked out. 😦 … and he recently said the same thing about the bullpen. YIKES!

    Men’s Onion Sports : Recliner Logo T-Shirt
Lazily watching sports never felt so right.

    Color: Black

Alas, I am not a man, do not have a recliner, nor am I given to watching sports, lazily or otherwise – so please Santa Frank let someone else have my gift……. Someone who wants it for themselves or wants it for someone who does the above things 🙂

What a fun way to kick off the party! I was out at another party last night and am a little tired this morning, but Siddy is up and at ’em and the day is unusually clear and sunny so we may get a walk in before the clouds gather, the wind rises and the rain falls! This is summer in the far south of New Zealand!

      • Thought I’d drop back in and enjoy some of the entertainment now that I’ve got some of the chores around the ranch done. I also forgot to say thank you for the fun gift. Yikes! Thank you, Frank!

I brought some of my famous Chicago-style deep dish pizza. I only make it over the holidays. There is, of course, enough for everyone. One is for folks like me who prefer veggies and has the usual onions, peppers, and garlic, along with olives, artichoke hearts, and mushrooms. The other is for the carnivores in the group and has a really good Italian sausage and pepperoni. Both have plenty of cheese (because what’s a pizza without cheese??), the crust is homemade and so is the sauce. Enjoy. 🙂

  8. This is the most absurd—and thereby the most honest 🙂 —holiday party I have ever attended. I will forego a gift and leave it for others (all the TV channels are saying it’s better to give than to receive just now.) Besides I’m afraid I’ll get a t-shirt with words on it, and I hate wearing words. But you have indeed inspired me to go into the nether regions of my closet to see if I still have that Christmas sweater with the real working lights. All good wishes for a most happy holiday season, Frank!

  9. Bollocks! Cheers Ms Pauline for pinching 5 and 7…now I am confused! It doesn’t take much to confuse a Tasmanian. Gotta say, I think I am not in Kansas any more Toto but I did go to see Ben Folds in concert with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday and he informed us all that he comes from Kansas so does that count? Not sure how to take a number let alone claim a gift and as a drifting wanderer directed her by Pauline from N.Z. I am not entirely sure that I qualify to gift grab in the first place. Consider me a new Aussie and maybe by next Christmas I will qualify 😉

What a thoughtful gift, Frank. Deck of Cards: Vices Print–courtesy of The Onion. I’m a little later to the party than I anticipated. Jay, recovering from hip replacement surgery has also come down with the flu! It’s a lithe crazy, but I will try to stop by again later! This is the PERFECT party. I won’t infect anyone (although I see that soap has made the rounds in the list of gifts) but I think I need to stay home. My gift back to you comes from the words of my Elf friend, Buddy, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” Thank you for the most unique deck of cards, but also for your gift of music!, which you share frequently, and I always enjoy!

  16. What a great party! You’ve really outdone yourself with the entertainment. It looks like I’m showing up a bit late, but it looks like you have plenty of gifts to go around. I’m picking #25, because it’s a small, odd square, which is just my style. …

A Journal of Self Help, oh, you shouldn’t have! I must say, I was under the impression these were mostly gag gifts, but this one seems to be genuinely helpful. I do give the best advice, after all. Thank you for the gift and for the wonderful opportunity to hang out for a bit!

  17. I just picked #27 – “The crazy Sh#t old people say”. Most pertinent because as someone over the age of 10, I am officially “old”. I say crazy shite all the time. I would be committed if anyone really listened to me, but as an old person, I get immunity from people paying attention. Cheers for the gift sir. I will remember it fondly…or will I? You know how we old people are. Tomorrow is a completely new day 😉

I’d also like to leave a gift for everyone. Coincidentally this is also a do-it-yourself gift – instructions for how to make your own festive holiday reindeer – out of towels.

I landed on 23 and pulled out a book of insults and comebacks. I’m rather hoping there’s a section devoted to Shakespeare as he surely is the undisputed king of the insult and some of them can be used in jest (or for real about a detestable third party – Australia’s prime minister for example).

    Happy Christmas.

I got Bendy Mr. Bacon Toy. It says it wants to accompany on my adventures. I also know quite a few that are bigger bacon fans than me, and would probably be jealous of want to fight over this gift. LOL.
