On the Waterfall Illusion

We adore chaos because we love to produce order. (M. C. Escher)

Are you really sure that a floor can’t also be a ceiling? (M. C. Escher)

He who wonders discovers that this in itself is wonder. (M. C. Escher)

Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible. I think it’s in my basement… let me go upstairs and check. (M. C. Escher)

I am always wandering around in enigmas. There are young people who constantly come to tell me: you, too, are making Op Art. I haven’t the slightest idea what that is, Op Art. I’ve been doing this work for thirty years now (M. C. Escher)

Enjoy a look at the waterfall illusion by artist Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972)

    • Pauline,
Because you love the endless staircase, I will say that I almost used it … but went with this one. I had a good video about it, but deleted the link and can’t find the video to show you. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  1. Escher has always been a favorite. His work is always entertaining.
As a kid I used to look at the ceiling and think how you’d walk around on it as the floor – furniture and stuff glued to the regular floor overhead – if the whole room rotated like a movie set. Those rotating room mechanisms seemed so cool – I think Fred Astaire danced on the walls as the room rotated one time in a movie? Now all done by computers no doubt.
Hope your week is rolling along smoothly!

  2. M.C. Escher is one of my favourite creative people. Tessellation is something that I completely appreciate. I love Moorish tiles and Mr Escher certainly loved Spain and blended it seamlessly into his work. I think that anyone who can work creatively within the mathematical framework of tessellation is amazing ๐Ÿ™‚
