On to 2015

A New Year’s greetings to all!!!

Although I’ve been posting and replying to comments, sorry that I haven’t been visiting much. Break has been good, but I will return to your wonderful blogs very soon. This post is similar to the Opinions in the Shorts assortment, but without the opinions.

2014 was a year of several milestones (150oth post, 200,000th visit, and 5000th follower) – the later is relatively meaningless because most of them don’t visit after following. On the downside, my consecutive streak of years Freshly Pressed ended at two, stats are way down (that’s OK because I enjoy this and my commenters), and I fell short of 50,000th comment (which should be early in 2015).

Many thanks to all my visitors, especially those who comment. Cheers to my top 5 commenters (according to WP): Lame, Elyse, Val, Carrie, & Marina!!! A special shout-out to Catherine because I don’t think WP counts her.

For those who enjoy looking at the annual reports, here’s mine.

Closing the year requires a touch from The Onion.

Celebrations to start your year

  • (Thurs) Bad Hangover Day, Mummers Parade Day, Euro Day, Commitment Day, Bowling Day, Copyright Law Day, Beanie Babies Day, First Foot Day, Global Family Day, Bloody Mary Day, New Year’s Dishonor List Day, Polar Bear Plunge Day, Z Day
  • (Fri) Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy Day, Happy Mew Year for Cats Day, Swiss Cheese Day, Cream Puff Day, Science Fiction Day, Pet Travel Safety Day,  Buffet day, Motivation & Inspiration Day, 55 mph Speed Limit Day, Boo Boo Bear Day, Run up the Flagpole to See if Anyone Salutes Day
  • (Sat) Drinking Straw Day, Fruitcake Toss Day, J.R.R. Tolkien Day, Remember You Die Day, Chocolate Covered Cherry Day, Women Rock Day, Festival of Sleep Day, Write to Congress Day, Humiliation Day, Brooklyn Bridge Day
  • (Sun) Pop Music Chart Day, Tom Thumb Day, Trivia Day, Spaghetti Day, Appendectomy Day, Blender Day, Roller Skates Day, Free Flower Basket Day, Dimpled Chad Day

The next post will feature January, then followed by one or two Explore posts before returning to the normal routine. I’m thinking about doing more Explore topics in the future, so I will gladly consider your recommendations. Any ideas?

To keep 2015 on a positive track, I’ll announce the theme for the next act of Life: The Musical on the upcoming Monday Morning Entertainment.

When I heard these songs from the past the other day, I immediately thought they are fitting for the occasion. After all, let’s go into the new year with a some bounce in our steps.

Happy New Year everyone … and cheers to a positive life in 2015!!!!

  1. Delightful! I always love your lists of Onion titles and days of celebration. The musical videos are an extra bonus. With the excitement expected over the next several days as the new year actually gets underway, I am looking forward to Saturday’s Festival of Sleep Day. Happy New Year!

    • Pauline,
Happy New Year to you … and you are already in 2015! Thanks for the kind words, but for as long as I’ve been doing this, I think my stats are pathetic … but hey … the numbers shouldn’t be the focus! Cheers to my favorite Kiwi!

  3. Happy New Year Mr Frank and family and hopefully you don’t have a terrible hangover tomorrow. Looks like we will be getting rain as well Ms Pauline so we can huddle inside and celebrate ;). Your stats are impressive Mr Frank. Something to aspire to and here’s to many more years of Frank Angling to come 🙂

  4. Happy New Year to you. What sort of things do you want the explore posts to explore? I mean, I know that was kind of your question to us, but what is the guiding idea behind them? Looking forward to another great year of blogging for us all! 🙂

  5. Happy New Year Frank! I think it is weird that people sign up to follow our blogs and never visit. It happens to me too. Also the same, my hits have gone down while my list of followers has grown. I have been Freshly Pressed 4 times, but, like you, it stopped 2 years ago. I think whoever chooses FP posts is looking in other directions. None of the blogs I follow have been FP lately. I don’t even bother to look at it any more as I am rarely interested in what they choose.
Also like you, I write my blogs because I enjoy it and I like the connection with the people I meet along the way.
On that note, when are we going to meet in Italy?

    • Debra,
Thanks for sharing your insight about blogs. I’m sure the FP people have a plan, so whatever is fine with me. As far as my return trip to Italy, we are aiming for fall 2016, but time will tell.

Happy New Year to you and yours … and continued joys in Italy and Australia!

  6. Thank you Frank, WP counted you and you were one of my top-five, so thank you. Also since WP did not count me for your site, it counted me for my own site, which of course I do not understand. Oh well. Anyways, Happy New Year to you and your wife! May all your dreams come true in 2015.

  7. Oh I should add WP will not let me view your annual report, it gives me the message “Sorry, this report is only visible to members of this site”, again I do not understand since I am logged in. Oh well, again.

Happy – Beautiful – Productive – Peaceful and HEALTHY New Year, Frank! 🙂
ps: guess what happened when I tried opening your annual report link! Oh, well, we don’t need numbers to tell us how successful a blog is [like yours], do we?!!! 🙂

    • Jim,
Making a difference beyond the ten losers is a noble goal … but keep this in mind … if The Onion made the list long, it wouldn’t be a list of 10. 😉 Happy New Year to you and Melanie.

Happy New Year to you and hubby. I imagine the two of you will have some fine dining tonight. No ceiling dancing tonight for me … (that will be Friday) …. 😉 … but we will dance tonight. Cheers to your 2015!

  9. Hey Frank, I have to return the thanks to you: you were my number 1 commenter, too! I hope I don’t suffer the effects of Humiliation Day when I usher my first Off-Broadway play of 2015 on Saturday! I wish you a Happy New Year and a great 2015 — and maybe even some more Saturday Morning Cartoon posts … that I tend to read later on Sunday.

Awesome news about being your top commenter, which is the perfect match to the stats here. 🙂 … a toast to us!

Happy New Year to you and hopefully the Humiliation Day festivities won’t fall upon you. Meanwhile, I’ve got to get back on those cartoon!

  11. Happy New Year, Frank. May you and Right Angle have a wonderful, fun, healthy 2015.

As often happens, one special thing caught my attention and I have to Comment now!

Tomorrow (1/1) is Euro Day, and I remember it so clearly. It was 2002, We were living in France, just across the border from Geneva. They were going to take French a Francs and at shops and restaurants, and give change in Euros. It seemed like a recipe for disaster. But it worked brilliantly. We returned from celebrating Hogmannay in Edinburgh, and stopped at a boulangerie (a bakery) on the way home from the airport. I handed over my francs to pay for my baguette and I had the new coins in my hand. It really was amazing to watch and participate in the transition.

  12. Happy New Year, Frank!! Who cares about those stupid stats. It’s just a bunch of monkeys who put it together. It says nothing about your community, right? Wishing you a wonderful New Year. Happy 2015!!!

I see it as a milestone, but the last majority never visit again … especially when they discover I don’t reciprocate following. Some of their sites have many followers and no comments on the posts.
