On the First 2015 Monday

Greetings and Happy New Year … and welcome to 2015’s first Monday Morning Entertainment!

How did you spend time the past two weeks?

Our Christmas holiday was busy, thus included two 3-hour+ drives to family, a movie (The Imitation Game – aFa recommended!), an afternoon at a museum, hosting two dinners, attending two college basketball games, gatherings with friends, and (of course) a bit of ballroom time.

For those who enjoyed the Exploring series, please leave recommendations for future posts. Think person, place, or thing.

The start of the year is a good time to renew Life: The Musical … after all, only three acts remain. Act 15’s theme will the “Growing Old”, so song titles must include old, older, oldest, elderly, or aging. Act 15 starts Wednesday at 9:30 PM (Eastern US).

  1. Happy New Year, Frank! I’m going to celebrate Earth’s Rotation Day on Thursday, but other than that, I think I’m celebrated out for a while. M and I had a lovely holiday. Our stats include 15+ hours of driving 1600+ miles, a bazillion smiles, countless and priceless moments of joy, hundreds of hugs and kisses, several museums, 20 miles of walking in two days around Washington, D.C., visits with family and friends, and a few hours of settling back in at the Wabi-Sabi Ranch. Life is good. 🙂

    • Robin,
Thanks for sharing your holiday … and we came nowhere near 1600 miles. … but from your description, I suspect time with grandkids. Cheers to your good life at the ranch and beyond!

  2. Glad to hear you had a nice holiday, Frank. Ours was busy, too. The last of the family is leaving tomorrow or Tuesday, and soon the boys will be back at school and life will return to normal. It’s always nice to change things up a bit, but a return to the usual schedule is kind of a relief, too.

Am looking forward to seeing The Imitation Game. Next weekend maybe.

  3. Well, we spent a week scuba diving in Curacao and had a wonderful time. This weekend featured football on T.V. It was nice to be at home and enjoying sports. So sorry your Bengals did not advance in the playoffs, Frank. Honestly, I was rooting for them just because I like them. Also because our Broncos now have to face Andrew Luck and the Colts. They were on fire!

Have a great week and I’ll look forward to Wednesday and Life, the Musical. Oh yes, and speaking of musicals, we did go see “Into the Woods” this weekend. Really enjoyed it!

    • Into the Woods? Hmmm … don’t know that one – but I just watched the trailer … so thanks for the recommendation.

Porky Pig says it best (about the Bengals) … That’s All Folks as we become the first NFL team ever to lose first playoff game in 4 consecutive years, which only adds insult to the fact of no playoff win since January 1991. Oh well … that’s life in Cincinnati.

  4. Happy New Year Frank, and Happy first Monday of the year. Our weekend consisted of one of our epic runs to and from Hamilton to Lennoxville and bag again but you will hear all but it one I write my blog post.

  5. Happy Monday! I love the video! My two weeks were great–family and friends, lots of holiday movies, nothing special, which is why it was so special. I am not sure yet how I will celebrate, but I am planning something for Whipped Cream Day, Sherlock, Holmes Day, and I’m Not Gonna Take It Anymore More Day. Have a good week.

  6. Today, after two weeks of relaxation, I return to work. I am somewhat happy about this, somewhat.

    The video is great fun!

I think I will bypass the week, nothing really interesting at all. But do have a really fabulous week and try to stay warm.

  7. LOVE Mahna Mahna.

Had a great two weeks off work. Spent a large part of it at home which is what I like to do. Had a few get-togethers with friends/family, but mostly just us at home relaxing. As usual though I had all sorts of plans for things I wanted to get done, just stuff around the house, you know, but as usual it got to the end of the two weeks and I’d barely accomplished any of it. Ah well! Although I see that Wednesday is Organize your home day, so maybe I can get it all done on Wednesday evening after work, seeing as it’s a special day for it ‘n all.

    • Vanessa,
Thanks for sharing and cheers to getting some time for R&R between several gatherings with family and friends … whereas we seemed to be always moving … but we also relaxed and skipped on painting a bathroom. Mahna Mahna!

  8. No resolutions here aside from resolving not to make resolutions and we celebrate life on a daily basis around here. Diet = “Die” with a “T” see “No resolutions” to see what I think about that! Silent records? Are they the kind that you play without a needle? Earl figures predominately in our “Someday we’ll laugh about it” year rather than week 😉
Lots of birds here, blue as in colour or melancholy because I didn’t have time for melancholy yesterday so I might have to tide it over till next Monday if that’s OK? Weigh in day? See “No resolutions”…FM radio is confined to the car where it keeps trying to get us to accept the premise of “digitally enhanced singing” as music. Earl = Bozo the clown. Beans figure predominately in our diet, part of why we are hermits ;). Divorce Monday? Is it compulsory?! There should be a Sherlock Holmes week 🙂

I think “I’m not going to take it day” should be on the same day as “Divorce Monday” may as well combine and multi-task. Tempura deserves a week as well…make that a month! “Old rock” as in music or ancient mineral deposits? I agree with the “Fruitcake toss” day. If you haven’t eaten it by now it might need to be hauled away by a truck! Forget “organise your home day” as the day after your family and pets will “disorganise your home” (if they can last a day that is…).

Argyle as in the country or as in sweaters? You guys might be up to your necks in the white fluffy cold stuff but over here we have stripped down to the bare minimum that is possible without alarming and permanently scarring the neighbours (who have also stripped down in kind). I thought the earth rotated every day…was I wrong?! Now “Joy germ day” is just weird Mr Frank. I think we should have an uprising about poverty to be honest. It keeps getting swept under the carpet because the poor don’t have a voice. First the uprising, THEN the war!

OH I love the muppets! What a blast from the past Mr Frank and Kermit was iconic back before Jim Henson passed away. I remember when Sesame Street and the muppets were a force to be reckoned with, not something to sell an empire of toys and games…

Who invents these “days” and “weeks” by the way Mr Frank…can we petition them?

    • Narf,
When it comes to celebrations, I just report them, but don’t make them up. Some have websites, others not, but many are a promotion of a company, organization, cause, etc … I would never toss fruitcake, well, unless I ate too many at one time along with a few cookies.

Meanwhile, while you are sweltering and running around at least half naked, the forecast says a bit of snow for tomorrow, but then a nasty streak of low temps … well, low for us … possibly as low as -17 C … so I’m staying inside as much as possible.

  9. Frank, I don’t even know what normal is anymore lol. I am still on vacation. My family is just starting to leave and my head is still in the clouds with happiness. I am so happy you had an amazing holiday. You definitely deserved it my friend. Now off to get my head back to work lol

  10. And the year is off and running.
So everyone should be thrilled with the Celebration of Life – even on a Blue Monday – and go ahead and Cuddle Up with a Bobblehead or relax with a Bubble Bath – no need to partition happy days into designated slots.
Sounds like all the ingredients are there for a delightful week (as long as the weather’s mild enough to open the windows a tad if necessary on Tuesday?)

  11. I will forever be a Muppet fan. And Mahna Mahna absolutely spreads joy! Perfect for the new year. I’m going to give due consideration to Friday, Joy Germ Day. I have absolutely no idea what that could mean, so I will have to think of how to best apply or celebrate. And I went back to work after two weeks of active ups and downs I was grateful for my quiet little office. Tomorrow my mind will be scouring my mental musical catalog and I’ll see what I come up with for Wednesday. 🙂

    • Debra,
You will love Joy Germ Day. Because inquiring minds want to know, here’s a copy/paste explanation …

… A Joy Germ is a little germ of joy that is spread by smiling at people, making people laugh, and generally spreading happiness everywhere you go. Imagine a day where everyone is smiling, laughing and spreading happiness – that’s Joy Germ Day!

It’s very easy to participate. The first step is to park your cynicism at home. The second step is to go out into the world. The third step is up to you – just feel the joy, and spread it around!

… meanwhile, you had a lot on your plate in recent weeks, so work time will be good (well, in a strange way) … but you know what I mean. Plus, it may active your musical catalog. 🙂 … Mahna Mahna.
