On an Announcement for Monday

Welcome back from the weekend.  How was yours?

Our weekend involved ballroom time and hosting our dinner group – thus the latter involved getting ready. All in all, our afternoons were actually low-key. Also, we recently started watching House of Cards  on Netflix. Do you watch it?

Here’s a surprise. After thinking about it, Life: The Musical is going to have an epilogue. Besides, as I look ahead, this week is as good of time as any! Previous acts focused on words in the song title, but this time, it’s about the lyrics. There are many songs about life, and you may have a song that is special to you. Some are linked to situations or occasions, while others tug at us through their lyrics without a reason. In other words, this is a chance to post a song about life that is important to you. Curtain time is Wednesday, 9:30 PM (Eastern US).

  1. My weekend, well, I put on my neurosurgeon hat and gown to work on a head. Prognosis; fingers crossed, years of problem free flushes.
    Frankly, Frank, sounds like you had a Frankie Does Hollywood weekend though from comfort of you Cinci digs.

    Who knew playing a 12 string could be so intimate. (had to play it on youtube the link would not load in browser, just thought I’d mention in case anyone has issues)

  3. I wrote a lot this weekend, but I also saw ‘The Imitation Game.’ Such a great movie. Have you seen it yet? Definitely worth the price of a ticket.

    As for it being Hershey Day this week, I’m all for that. 😉

  6. So Life: The Musical has an afterlife, Frank? And it’s on Satisfied Staying Single Day. Perfect timing.

    I had a decent weekend: ushered a very entertaining off Broadway play and I finally got around to seeing “Selma”. I’m very glad that I saw that one. It sure got shafted in Academy Award nominations. It got nominated for Best Picture, but not director — as if it directed itself. That’s appalling.

      I figured the epilogue could happened as it did with Time: The Musical … but until recently, I didn’t have the way to do it.

      Cheers to another supporter of “Selma”. I imagine it would qualify for several Milties, including the Most Shafted by the Academy. How many different theaters do you usher?

      • Five regularly. A sixth claims that they’ve added my name to their preferred usher list, but I’ve yet to hear from them again. A seventh, one I’ve been trying to get in with for about a year (it’s highly competitive) is finally trying me out next month.

        Milton is super steamed about “Selma” getting dissed. This is the whitest and most male Oscars in a while. It’s like the nominations have regressed twenty years. I attended a dinner last week with several Asian American friends. They told me that 2014’s nominated films all only seemed to be about white males. It does look a lot like that.

        • As soon as the nominees were announced, the whiteness was well noted. Selma deserved more than it got.

          Wow … 5 … possibly 6 … potentially 7. Then again, a great way to enjoy the theater … plus one of your two favorite words starting with F.

        • I don’t do it every weekend, but probably about 2/3 of them. I enjoy it immensely and it’s how I’m able to see much more theater. I’ve easily saved several thousand dollars I could never afford to spend on the potato and health insurance that I’m paid. “Selma” at least deserved Best Director and Best Actor. If Angelina Jolie’s vanity project hadn’t been a big block of wood they would not only had nominated her in a heartbeat, they would have invented nominations for her they love her so much. And don’t get me going about that Republican fossil, Clint Eastwood. Such blatant favortism.

  8. Ah, so glad there’s more to ‘The Musical’! By then we will probably be under a veil of snow! [a drop of 15ºC already – last week temperature reached 20ºC and today it’s down to 4ºC and expected to drop a lot more, accompanied by extremely strong winds! It’s obvious that the weather is also following the madness of our times!

  9. Hi Frank – Had a great weekend celebrating my Feb. birthday at Adega followed by a visit to The Vault – a fav hang out spot for Johnny Manziel who lives in the building. Didn’t see Johnny, but did see these strange girls, scantily clad, smoking some kind of bongs that they now sell there. They’re hired as plants to keep the customers happy… It was creepy when 2 of them approached me and asked me to dance in one of the roped off rooms – but that’s just me. Too bad you weren’t there to celebrate your Feb. birthday as well – I do hope you have a good one! 🙂

  10. We had another ski weekend and the weather was warm and sunny. Also, I’ve started back with piano lessons and spent some time practicing this weekend after we got home. I’m really enjoying being back at the keys! I already have my song picked out for Wednesday, Frank. In the meantime, hope you’re have a lovely week!

      Skiing again? 😉 Given a typical season, how much longer?
      Awesome about the piano lessons. Did you play earlier in life? I recently heard a very gifted young man in a lesson … wow … and to think he was self-taught, thus taking lessons a bit more than a year. … and he’s been accepted to a very strong university program for next year.

      • The season goes through at least March. We have three more weekends planned. Only thing we’re not sure about is all this warm weather – we’re hoping it doesn’t melt away the base!

        I played other instruments earlier – started with the flute at age nine and then sang in classical choruses in my teens and 20s. Then took up classical guitar – but had to give that up because of my bodywork practice (nails required on the right hand.) That’s when I decided to take up piano – no nails required. I had set it aside for some time, but I have a fabulous grand piano (Boston) and I’ve really been wanting to get back to it.

  11. It was a great weekend here, though exhausting. The young man was here from university for the weekend, plus middle child, then the eldest came over for a few hours Satuday morning. A house full of kids and the two dogs were even overjoyed.

    Glad to hear that Life the musical is going to have an epilogue.

  12. I will be interested to any reactions to House of Cards you care to write about because I find it fascinating. I would rank it just below Breaking Bad. My wife is less intrigued than I, but still finds it entertaining. We just started season 2 on DVD and she says it took an episode before she could “get back into it”, but now she’s hooked again.

    Kevin Spacey is on my list of the top dozen or so actors of all time and he has captured the essence of the power-obsessed, Machiavelli-skilled politician perfectly. I see it as accurately reflecting a good deal of what goes on behind the scenes in Washington because I have seen this kind of ambition in real life. I actually knew several naval officers in my career who were similarly obsessed with their careers. Another piece of evidence: I read a report where Hillary Clinton admitted to getting a copy and “binge-watching” it.

      We are still in season one … and fairly early, so we may have to have some binge time to move along. After all, season 3 is due out very soon.

      We were just wondering if this is the way it works. To me, your description is perfect … power-obsessed, Machiavelli-skilled politician!

      We got into BB in the last half of the last season. We know how it ends. So, we started from the beginning and are about halfway through. Interesting how Walter is going from a science teacher to some other creature. Could that have happened to me? 😯

  13. I think you’ll enjoy House of Cards, excellent series. You might also try the British version, just a mini series of 2 or 3 episodes. As for me I’m going to have a go at ‘Clean Out Your Computer Day’ although it may take a bit longer. And on that theme isn’t it interesting that Darwin Day hasn’t evolved into a week?

  14. Thursday is pancake day!! I like mine as buttermilk pancakes with the great maple syrup (that was celebrated last week). Yesterday was spent getting the bird houses ready for Spring time nesting! Have a lovely week Frank ~

  16. I am very glad to see that we have Extraterrestrial Culture day prior to Extraterrestrial Visitor day Mr Frank. It just wouldn’t do to have our Alien visitors arrive and we had no idea how to fix their hot beverage of choice or what kind of canapes to serve them. Steve has ‘Get-out-your-guitar Day’ every day and would like it known that as a guitar teacher in the U.K. he tended to abstain from getting as up close and personal as the ‘teacher’ in your shared vid. As amazing as it is, I am thinking that ‘student’ is going to need therapy…

  19. Tuesday looks like an out of this world day?
    The weather was just too perfect to stay inside. Managed to get the first of the season yard work started…and the yard is drying up so the dog isn’t quite so muddy so there’s not as much floor cleaning to do or towels to be washed which leaves more time to go outside. (But since I dared to do yard work, we are almost guaranteed to have some really really cold freezing weather before long?)

  20. I great a great weekend, frank. We visited one of our local park/marinas. We walked. We enjoyed watching a gal fly a beautiful kite. We sat on a bench and watched the sailboats and speed boats speed the warm waters. Finally, an early dinner on an outdoor veranda at a place called The Crab Shack. Can you guess what type of food they serve. 😊
    I’m thinking Love Celebration week will be happening in my household.

      Welcome … this is a typical Monday post, so a good place to get your celebratory items for your calendar! We appreciate the House of Cards endorsement as we are early in our viewing. Meanwhile, reading in the bathtub while Hershey Kisses available as a snack is a worthy combination.

  23. That guitar video was something else. Thanks for sharing that. I was at water polo all day Sunday in the pouring rain, freezing cold, Frank. When I got home I crawled into my bed. Lots of celebrations. I think they just about cover everything. I will give a song some thought!
