On a Time-Lapse Collection

Always is no Time at all. (Vanna Bonta)

Time crumbles things; everything grows old under the power of Time and is forgotten through the lapse of Time. (Aristotle)

No distance of place or lapse of time can lessen the friendship of those who are thoroughly persuaded of each other’s worth. (Robert Southey)

I have often thought that if photography were difficult in the true sense of the term–meaning that the creation of a simple photograph would entail as much time and effort as the production of a good watercolor or etching–there would be a vast improvement in total output. The sheer ease with which we can produce a superficial image often leads to creative disaster. (Ansel Adams)

When one tugs on a single string in nature, he finds it is attached to the rest of the world. (John Muir)

I enjoy time-lapse photography. Maybe I like seeing slow-motion in action because I wouldn’t otherwise notice. César Cantú is an astrophotographer in Mexico. Enjoy this video, which is a collection of his 2014 work incorporated with powerful music … and a Happy Valentine’s Day to all.

  1. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Mrs. aFa!! Practicing my Italian today by making Sflogliatella with my 14 year old neighbour. He’s a good cook, and the two of us are always up for an adventure….”O” and I will be practically fluent- speaking Italians (like you, F!) when all is said…and baked!!!! Ciao!!!!!

  2. I liked all your Time-Lapse quotes, but “When one tugs on a single string in nature, he finds it is attached to the rest of the world” (John Muir) was my favorite.

  3. Love the John Muir quote Frank – enjoyed the video this morning. Have a wonderful weekend – going into 70’s today and plunging to the 30’s tomorrow and Monday (high’s only 35 – what?!).

  4. What a pleasant surprise! Usually the time-lapse videos are accompanied by some new-age music or some quiet classical piece. Not so this one!

Happy Valentine’s to you and the Missus!

  5. Cielito Lindo means beautiful sky in Spanish. Wonderful scenes from my beloved Southwest, several of which, I recognize, Frank. Happy Valentine’s Day!

p.s. One of my goals is to learn how to photograph star trails.

  6. Am a sucker for grandeur, just as everyone else, so thank you Frank for the time lapse by César Cantú. However, there is a huge part of me that is suspect of the sweetness of big sweeping vistas, vast seascapes (in raw rage or blanketed in sunset), monumental mountains, the milky way and Big Love. I hesitate to call it ‘La Grande Illusion’, as it does have a place in ‘reality’ too. But so do the little things that make up the big picture causing us to fall in love with ‘La Grande’. Not sure if you know Marylin Warner over at ‘Things I Want To Tell My Mother’ (I think you would like what she has to say and visa versa). In her last blog post she broke down the ‘Red Scarlet’ day to what she finds most enduring of her parents and husband, that being Kindness. Am sure Mrs. Frank would agree with her.

Hope you enjoyed the day with your ‘Valentine’.

  7. This is nothing to do with time lapse and everything to do with me thinking that this might tickle you and your lovely wife’s fancy Mr Frank. Knowing how much you like a good political debate, this would be a perfect garden accessory for your own little patch of paradise if ever I saw one http://www.justsaygnome.net/

  8. Frank, I wasn’t around the web much yesterday, so I hope that you and your wife had a great V-day. I have nothing new to add to all of the previous comments about the time-lapse visuals in that video, but that song, I think it was called “Two Steps from Hell,” was so dramatic! It reminded me of the type of lofty music I’d expect to hear before the start of a televised football game.

  9. Ahhh … good old Aristotle. Great selections plus a video that is captivating. I can just imagine how many nights were spent in order to photograph those magestic skies. Love it !!!
The video title threw me off. I thought it was going to be that old Mexican song from years ago. Remember hearing this one the radio. 😃

Where have I been??? It looks like I’ve been gone a while. EEeeekkk !!!! 😢
