Greetings for cold Cincinnati. Then again, a blast of bitter cold is upon much of America. As Boston and much of New England continues to get hammered by the white stuff, Cincinnati could be about to receive the first significant snow of the season … and then the storm moves toward Boston. Yikes!
How was your weekend? The cold limited us a little, but hey, one night on the ballroom floor and another at a dinner-dance by the Cincinnati’s Italian-American Society. Otherwise, it was low-key for us, but we’re looking forward to watching the 40th anniversary show for Saturday Night Live.
Those commenting of this weekend’s Explore post received a surprise from me. Did anyone pass it on to others?
Posts may be a bit out of kilter this week, but time will tell. Sometime soon (either this week or next), I will start my winter blog break. Those who take blog breaks know their importance. For me (this time), I hope to still be around visiting and commenting, but I want time for writing and reorganizing some of the pages here.

The cold has even filtered down to Florida. I’ve had to put a blanket on the bed. 😦 In England Mardi Gras was called Shrove Tuesday, or more popularly with us kids, ‘Pancake Day’. My mom made excellent pancakes, and we ate them with lemon juice and sugar. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. 🙂

Interestingly, we used to attend an Episcopal church, and their event was called Shrove Tuesday … and they did pancakes and sausage. Our current church does a wonderful chili cookoff. Cheers to your mom’s pancakes!

Glad you enjoyed the video. Definitely very creative. Current weather reports indicate a possible 4-5 in (10-12 cm) for us, which is just starting. Much of the week will also be cold with temps -8 to -14 C. Good news is that cold temps mean a dry, powdery snow. … Oh no .. our dance lesson could be cancelled!

Lesson did get cancelled … and no snowball fight because a) the snow is too dry and b) it’s too cold to go outside. Good news is I don’t have to go out for the mail because today is a holiday!

Friends came over for dinner Friday of pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onions, in the slow cooker.
Stayed home Sat and Sun.

Leaving the house in the morning to go have coffee with a friend.
Staying home and in the rest of the week I suppose. Wednesday high is 4˚F.

Well it’s been ridiculously cold here in Montreal. My customer asked if it was OK to pick up her food tomorrow morning instead of tonight because she just didn’t have the heart to head out in the cold…
Will be making my boys happy with pancake for supper on Mardi Gras! (Surprisingly, this was never celebrated in my home growing up. What up with that?)
Not too many grouches in my ‘hood but should I come across one, will do my best!

Oh yes, bitter cold is what we are experiencing. Zeke is not impressed with me. I shall bundle up anyway and go out there! Currently -22C (-8F) (wind chill -34C (-29F)).
I have a wicked cake called the Chocolate Mint Decadence… Hmmm… haven’t made it in years! Must find an occasion and lots of guests (so rich must be shared with many – and I DON’T want too many leftovers!) Now, I’m going to check your recipe.

Love Montreal, (visited twice, but in the summer). Cincinnati is much smaller, less cosmopolitan. … but I’m a good host.

That is a cool video Frank! You’re weekend sounds cold. brrrrr! I’m thinking of moving to Barbados, it was 83F over the weekend there, and our lows were in the mid to upper 20’s. Ridiculous. Makes for Grouch Day every day. Two pairs of pants, socks, slippers, two undershirts, and two sweatshirts makes for a very cranky Floridian. Thanks for starting the week; hope yours is fabulous! HAPPY HIBERNATING on your well-deserved blogging break! I’m resting up today for my annual jaunt tomorrow to Perfect North Slopes with ski fanatic, cousin Burk. Tomorrow I’ll also be celebrating Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), where I plan to be next year at this time (in New Orleans), doing the parades and digging the jazz scene along with checking off one of my Do-It-Before-I-Die Bucket List items. This Thursday I’m celebrating the Chinese New Year with a drop-in to Cincinnati’s best authentic menu Chinese restaurant, The House of Sun, on St. Rt. 4 in Sharonville, OH.

It was 8 degrees this morning at 7 when I walked Duncan. There are days when stuffed dogs are so much more appealing!

No cold, no snow here, just powdery mildew, humidity and a sense that you are damp at all times of the day. I am going to hook up with “do a grouch a favour” day. Favours for grouches tend to result in making them angrier but they are never happier than when they are peaking so I guess that’s a score? There is something vaguely terrifying about that video that I can’t quite put my finger on Mr Frank…”AHH! Now I get it! The lady on the extreme right has the very same glasses as Christopher Biggin’s from The Rocky Horror Picture Show” TERRIFYING! 😉

Cold, windy, and snowy at the moment, but I don’t think we are going to get the snow totals initially anticipated … but we still have hours to go, so time will tell. Meanwhile, glad the video created a bit of uncertainty … so yes … it must be the glasses!

It was warm and mild over the weekend, so we rushed about getting things done – only close to home though – the highway dept apparently decided a weekend with Valentines Day, a charity marathon, and Mardi Gras was the perfect time to do major road construction/closures on 5 of the major freeways. It actually was ‘if you aren’t there, you probably can’t get there”.
Tourists braved the roads to Mardi Gras anyway and it was massive traffic jams around here everywhere. Good time to do yardwork and straighten the garage.
The arctic front just arrived at the back door. 20 degree drop so far. But not as bad as you guys! Stay warm and snug!

Cold, windy, and snowy at the moment. To me, snow totals seem low at the moment, but probably another 7 hours to go – which they predict will involve some heavy moments … In other words, time will tell. …but forecasts have the highs for Wed & Thurs at 10 & 8 respectively. Ouch!

We’ve enough beads – watch the Boat parade last weekend, but stayed out of that area this time.
Talked to family in VA yesterday. They were all staying at the house with power (young baby!). My brother complained people that people weren’t trimming tree canopies and the strong winds were toppling very big trees into houses and powerlines….he relocated from north of Phili area a few years ago…but kept the snowblower which is out and working this winter. All I can say is Brrrrr.

Saturday’s winds were strong … whew … so I imagine some trees went down, thus the lose of power. Meanwhile, I’m simply staying in today — especially because your events were cancelled.

On Saturday night I found the furnace had shut off for a considerable amount of time, it was the batteries in our electronic thermostat. Then Sunday night around 11pm it up and quit working. The house was freezing, dropping quickly especially with outside temps in the -35 to -40 Celsius range. The furnace man finally showed up around 2am, after hubby had gotten rid of the ice which had accumulated inside the intake pipe (you couldn’t see the ice, he had to use a broomstick), this was half the issue. The furnace we have runs in 2 modes high & low, so, for $128, the repairman increased the time for the furnace to run in high, hopefully stopping this problem from occurring again. Apparently this is a common problem with this type of furnace with the exceptionally cold temperatures we are experiencing. Fun times.

I’ve been following the weather reports from your parts, Frank, and I shiver just thinking about it. I hope you enjoyed the Saturday Night Live 40th as much as I did. It didn’t have to be a great show at all, I just wanted to look back and thoroughly enjoy the memories. Nothing was ever as funny to me as those first few years. Hope you are keeping warm today. 🙂

It has been brrrr everywhere including here in sunny Florida. I suppose the northerners were a bit jealous and sent some of their ice cold winds down here. Good movie watching weather.
