On Easing into a Return

Surprise, surprise … yep … it’s me, but I’m going to ease myself back into the swing. After all, I still have some writing to do. Being that the celebrations below only go through Thursday, that’s a sign there will be another post this week. So, the Play button is applicable.

Many of you know that my wife has been cruising the Caribbean with her sister and two friends … and you may also recall that my XY combination on the 23rd chromosome pair prohibited my inclusion. Long-time visitors here recall my trip to Italy several years ago to visit family – yep – it was done while the ladies were cruising. This year I stayed home and endured the weather, which was fine.

I danced a lot – let’s see … 5 of the first 7 evenings, and it would have been 6 if the weather didn’t force a cancellation. For those raising their eyebrows in marital disgust – shame, shame on you. (OK, I couldn’t resist.) Besides having fun, I was working on self-improvement in order to be a better dancer for when my wife returns. Many thanks to my ballroom friends for the company, especially the ladies with strong frames that helped me more than they realize.

Besides organizing a yet-to-be-displayed page here, my week also included work a few days at a part-time job for some extra cash, attending a college basketball game, initiating a neighborhood wine tasting committee, volunteering at a disabilities dance class, attending + volunteering at the Cincinnati International Wine Festival, and rehearsing for a quick-step formation. The formation just started, so once my wife returns, I will familiarize her with the routine to date.

Enough of me … What have I been missing from your life? Come on … don’t be bashful!

Have a good week!

  1. Frankenstein Day–Ha, wonder what that one’s about.

Sounds like you’ve kept yourself busy while your wife has been away. Hopefully you had some downtime too. After all, the mouse should play while the cat’s away. 🙂

  2. Them’s some sexy musicians, Mr Frank…I know you say it’s all about the dance, but…

I’m all for napping day but fear that won’t be possible tomorrow so I’ll just have to stick to Meatball day!
Bagpipes are awesome so that works!
Dreams should be every day and pretty much all waffles are accepted in this abode!
As for Dennis the Menace ~ how’d he get a day?

    • Dale,
In terms of Dennis, maybe it was his birthday on TV or when the show debuted … but I never would have imaged you as a bagpipes and meatballs combo type of gal.

Ah come on … I didn’t think you would be on of my critics regarding the dance stuff. 😦

  3. What does ‘ladies with strong frames’ mean Frank? Do I assume you needed holding up? Onto? My mind is boggled and my imagination working at high speed…….. Hopefully all the dancing has turned you into an Italian Fred Astaire and your wife will be mighty pleased with your efforts! I too was somewhat alarmed at a whole week for aardvarks ….. it seems a bit excessive for a middling sized ant eating creature. I have spent this week avoiding irons!

  4. I hope no one is celebrating Bang-Clang Day on the subway at rush hour tomorrow, Frank. It sounds like you’ve had a very productive hiatus. All we’ve had in NYC is snow … Okay, it’s finally eased up now, but it did snow every other day for the first five days of March. Enough already!

    • Lame,
The subway would seem to be a wonderful place for celebrating Bang-Clang Day. Meanwhile, our temps are supposed to be mild all week, so that could be encouraging for you.

Meanwhile, I need some help … I just didn’t get the ending of Birdman … although Michael Keaton’s performance was outstanding!

      • I did notice a woman with skin the shade of a yam (from too much tanning salon or bronzer?) who was yammering loudly about her insufferably boring work-crap on the way in this morning, Frank, but thankfully, if she had the urge to bang or clang, she suppressed it.

Birdman’s ending is open to interpretation. I don’t want to reveal what Milton and I thought here because I don’t want to spoil it for the aFa readership. I’ll email you privately. Milton was bursting to talk about that ending when we left our screening. We were on the same page about it. He loved that.

  5. During your hiatus, I’ve been a bad blogger and have not blogged. It seems I’ve developed some sort of block, and the weather has me feeling quite depressed. Anyways, thus past week was lovely, the young man was home for a week, spring break, as well as middle child. The eldest cane by yesterday with her boyfriend so I had a house full. Hopefully I can write something tomorrow. In the meantime have you heard the Two Cello’s? They are mind boggling, here is a link for you, enjoy. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qfGggAGITwg

  6. My, my Frank–you have been busy! My recent time has been much more sedate. Preparing for a visit with my tax guy and sorting boxes and boxes and boxes of my dad’s old slides. I did get a slide scanner working–a more challenging feat than it might sound. I sure like the sound of Bang-Clang Day. Have a good week.

Thank you, I loved to listen to them 🙂 You know I love tango… Love, nia

  9. I told you I admired you with all of your activities, and it sounds like you were true to form last weekend. Loved the video – if that’s the kind of dancing you’re doing, I want lessons. I will celebrate Napping Day today – starting this week, my son has to be on the water for crew practice every morning by 5:30am, and with my car pool that means leaving the house at 4:30. Will definitely need time to adjust to the new schedule and naps will help! Hope you have something sweet planned for your wife when you are reunited 🙂

  10. Really enjoyed the video, Frank. I love classical instruments playing rock-like music! We skied from Thursday to about noon on Saturday (during the day, of course) and then came back up to Fort Collins for a symphony concert Saturday night. Great weekend. Glad to see you back and hear that you kept yourself busy!

Gotta enjoy bands like Bond & The Piano Guys, Did you see the 2 Cellos video Catherine provided? … I think you’ll enjoy it. Cheers to your active weekend. But your life & mine, neither of our weekends are boring!

  11. You had me at Aardvark Week Mr Frank. I am going to spend this week hunting for Aardvarks on Serendipity Farm. Although the chances are slim (I am told by experts) of me seeing one, I will don my trusty pith helmet and decamp to the back block with Stevie-boys trusty old binoculars for the sake of my art. No time for anything else ESPECIALLY Bagpipe week. SO glad we couldn’t afford a set of bagpipes when my son was lusting after joining the local bagpipe brigade (and that we are 50km away from where he currently lives in case he gets a mid-life crisis moment and decides to revisit his childhood dreams). Catch you later 🙂 Oh, and by the way, those fiddling girls have NOTHING on these guys… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT3SBzmDxGk

    • Narf,
Given your helmet and binoculars, don’t forget a long-handled net. Happy hunting. Wow .. the 2 Cellos get their second appear here in this post! Until earlier today, they are new to me … very enjoyable … however, I will contest your last point because the fiddling gals have something on the cello dudes … The carry a map of Tasmania.

      • a-HEM*! Oh I NEVER catch what I observe Mr Frank. I am content to allow wildlife to overrun Serendipity Farm. I learned that if you try to stop them they just come in greater numbers and you have wasted all of that energy waving your arms around and yelling. We have reached an amiable status quo, the native animals and I. I let them eat ALL of the garden except Sanctuary (my veggie garden) and they let me pretend that I have my own private zoo full of furry benign things. What they get up to when I am asleep is their own business 😉

  13. Crab meat and baked scallops for me, Frank. 🙂 Sounds like you packed a lot in during your bachelor week of freedom. When does your dancing partner return? “Ladies with strong frames” conjures up a rather stately picture in my mind. 🙂

    • Sylvia,
Your choice of celebrating with food doesn’t surprise me. 🙂 My wife returned late last night, and we had a lesson today. Meanwhile, good frames are necessary for a good picture. Then again, too many have it for posing, but not while dancing. … and strong frames also isn’t a matter of size.

  14. You are so busy, Frank. Good for you. I’m sure your wife will appreciate your extra effort out on the dance floor. And, you’re starting a wine tasting group. That sounds like a lot of fun. Hey, I took a few dance classes myself recently. A jazz and a yoga fusion class. So much fun!

    • Amy,
You taking a dance class with jazz & yoga fusion doesn’t surprise me because I know dance has been an important part of your life. Meanwhile, whew … I burned a few calories last week! In terms of the wine tasting group, we have a plan, but are requesting help from the homeowners association. Time will tell.

  15. I wonder what one does to celebrate Aardvark Week? Have an aardvark party? I guess the main course would have to be termites. I like the idea of celebrating Dream Day. I shall dream big on Wednesday. 🙂

Sounds like you’ve been very busy, Frank. I’ve been up to the usual. Taking walks, taking pictures, reading books, working in and out of the house, etc. Not much new here.

  16. Bag pipe day! I’ll have to borrow my neighbor’s – or get him to play. Wed. will be a real Dream Day if the sun comes out. (more flash flood watches)
Sounds like you’ve stayed busy. Sometimes it’s nice to stay home. Hope the weather cooperated so your wife got home without any delays or exhausting annoyances

Whew .. I stayed busy … but also had downtime. My wife had good travel weather, including the drive part of their trip … and it looks like we are going to have a mild week!

  17. I hate to brag, but…it’s been 70 degrees here. So, I’ve been cooking out on the deck and playing in the yard. It may not last, but while it’s here, must enjoy. Glad to hear you’re not becoming ‘hermit-like’ while wife’s away.

    • Renee,
Absolutely take advantage of the deck time. We’ve finally got some mild days (50s), but I also know that March has a way of both teasing and biting. Meanwhile, I absolutely wasn’t a hermit … but in a good way.

  18. You haven’t missed much in my life. I was in the same position as you left.. rebranding and about to curse out people LOL. I’ve maintained and haven’t had to get too upset but it is stressful and rewarding all at the same time. I’m happy you at least had a little bit of a good time while your wife is gone. And you’re right, you should ease into blogging again.

Love the Bond, the music just wonderful.

    Thank God for modern medicine.
BTW – both are doing well.
