Interesting how much Governor Mike Pence (R-IN) danced around answering questions about recent religious freedom legislation in his state, then changed his dance. Answering questions with direct truth must be against a politician’s credo … and the Republicans don’t have a corner on that market.

In this speech announcing his candidacy for the 2016, Republican presidential nomination, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated, “It is the time for truth” – and in that spirit, here’s a fact-check of his speech.

The Naked Cowboy is one of New York City’s multitude of personalities. Did you know he is from Cincinnati and a University of Cincinnati graduate? Here he is.

We booked a future vacation with Vacations To Go. A tip-of-the-cap to them for discovering a mistake at their end AND correcting it beyond our satisfaction.

Monday is Opening Day in Cincinnati, which means baseball season starts. If the weather is nice, I hope to spend a few hours in the city among the many dressed in red. As of now, the weather is iffy.

My time for reading your wonderful blogs continues to be small. Yuk!

Thursday was our 38th anniversary, thus a tribute to 38 is about ready. Because I know the throngs outside the aFa Theater for the Performing Arts were getting restless, I chose to debut the musical on our anniversary instead of next week. Nonetheless, we had a wonderful dinner at this local restaurant.

Opening Night for Meals: The Musical provided quiet the variety of songs, so we are off and running. To my surprise, you provided more songs that I didn’t know. 🙂 I believe Act 2 will be easier than Act 1, but you will have to wait for the theme.

My selection of Frank Zappa opening Meals: The Musical surprised some. Here’s an interesting explanation of the musicality behind St. Alfonzo’s Pancake House.

Last week’s Explore took us to the Iguazu Falls along the Argentina-Brazil border. It turns out the a visitor here posted about her visit, which brings a personal touch to this wonder. Thanks, Madhu!

Prepare yourself for a journey on the Explore series this weekend.

  1. Thanks for the Naked Cowboy link. That’s an old one! I used to hang out at that Howard Johnson’s. It’s long gone now but the Naked Cowboy is still here. He successfully sued M&M/Mars because they dressed one of the M&Ms up like him and used it in an ad without permission.

  2. Don’t Go to Work Unless It’s Fun Day: tomorrow sure isn’t going to be a very good Friday for Godsend or me, Frank. The Boss, who usually doesn’t come in on Fridays, told me before I left that she’s going to be in. So much for our Fun Day. We;re actually going to have to do real work tomorrow! Appalling!

  3. At least the Naked Cowboy has nice legs… Vacations to Go is the way we go all the time! Never, ever had a problem with them. They’re the best! That musicality bit on the Zappa tune was far out, Man! Seriously, I love learning about the “how they do that” even if I couldn’t tell you a treble clef from a B-Flat. Ham and pineapple are on the menu for Thursday, so I’m good there!

Happy Easter to you and yours!

    • Dale,
Good to see your endorsement of Vacations To Go … We’ve used them before, but they did a great job of fixing the issue they caused. Besides … we were also patient and appreciative of their effort. Glad you enjoyed the Zappa explanation … and glad somebody watched it! Happy Easter to you.

      • Yes. We’ve used them 4-5 times now…
As for the explanation…I read no music, have no idea between a rondo and a fugue…even signed up for a course on understanding and appreciating music but was the only one who signed up so it was cancelled…

  4. I’m glad the Indiana and Arkansas business communities convinced their governors and legislators to follow GOP Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush’s advice to go back to the drawing board and “find the right place” for their states’ Religious Freedom Restoration Acts.

Your article on the Genomics of Iceland has prodded me to begin reading the landmark book about human DNA research, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.”

In spite of the Cincinnati Reds’ 2015 baseball fortunes and Monday’s Opening Day weather forecast both being “iffy,” I say: PLAY BALL!

Speaking of Opening Days, I would have buzzed MYSELF for my “Meals: The Musical” pick.

  6. Needless to say how much of a Zappa fan I am… he was such a musical genius [and not only musical] who’s left a great big gap with his very early departure.
Have a great weekend, my dear Frank! 🙂

  7. Congratulations on 38 years! That’s so wonderful, Frank. I’m so happy your vacation plans came together to your satisfaction. Sometimes mistakes are a good thing. My husband got offered 1,000 bucks to take a delayed flight. He didn’t take it, but not bad for a couple hours of waiting.

  8. Wow, Frank! There’s a lot here! The “InterestingReads” really do look intereting tome. Plenty to choose from. Congratulations on 38 years AND the trip that’s in your future. And I do hope the weather cooperates so that you can enjoy opening day!

  9. Hope you get to catch the game opener for your team.
My brothers are taking my dad to Cleveland & Cincinnati this month to catch a couple of baseball games. My youngest brother called me & said that they may even head to the Christmas Story House. I’m debating whether or not to sneak in the trunk the night before they drive out. LOL

    • RoSy,
What a cool trip … .maybe I could take join them for some Cincinnati Chili! 🙂 Meanwhile, I imagine the Christmas Story House (in Cleveland) is a big hit with the movie fans.

PS: I made it downtown for the parade … large crowd … very large … and the Reds just won. 🙂

      • Nice that you made it to the parade. YAY on the Reds win. Red Sox won too! 😀 😀
I just messaged my brother asking for his itinerary & what day/times they plan to be at the games. Not sure if it’s a whirlwind trip or if they plan on hanging out outside of the games.
