On Piggy Monday

Good weather came upon Cincinnati this weekend. Warm, pleasant temperatures, blue skies, and mild breezes. Perfect for the spring cleaning in the yard … but hey … no more of that for me!

How was your weather? What did you do this weekend?

Ours included a dance, work, a neighborhood wine event, and Quick Step formation practice. Looking ahead, I’m hoping for a full week of posting.

Meals: The Musical returns this week. Act 2 features Fruits. Song titles must include fruit(s) or any nutritional fruit in the song title. There are many choices available, so hopefully last week’s record of 5 rejection buzzers won’t be topped. Warning: The producer considers tomatoes as a vegetable.

    Reading is always fun so this week I’ll try and do a bit more (though seriously, I must read the equivalent of a novel a day between all the blogs and stuff!)
    Pass the buck, eh? Oh, no we call it blame someone else… same difference.
    You are missing a very important day on Tuesday. Just sayin’.
    Titanic hit the iceberg on the 14th (and Lincoln was shot on the 14th) but both had their official demise the next day…
    Mmm… decisions, decisions. Maybe I’ll put some ‘shrooms on my Eggs Benedict on Thursday!

    Got my thinkin’ cap on for tomorrow’s submission…

      Regarding the Titanic, I see what you are saying – but I don’t base the list on This Day in History, but on actual celebrations … thus I didn’t find a Titanic Hits Iceberg Day for Tuesday

      Great idea about adding the shrooms to the eggs on Thursday! …. make that a double.

      • Oh, I wasn’t mentioning the Titanic hitting the iceberg for any other reason than just to supply the info… that the 14th seems to be a day where disaster strikes (as in the case of Lincoln); I need to find more positive stuff for the 14th…

  7. Hey Frank, I feel like a pig for not getting over to your Porky Pig post yet, but I’ve just been crazy busy this weekend and I’ve fallen woefully behind on blog reading and commenting. I’ll try to get it during the week. Thursday is Stress Awareness Day? Right now, it feels more like Stress Awareness Month to me!

  9. I had a Deja vu moment… I had planted out all my seedlings of flowers after thinning them out into 16 trays and stacking them on our shelving unit covered in plastic.. ( Pictures on my post )..I really enjoyed my mornings work, absorbed totally in the greenhouse..
    Sunday morning we get high winds with very strong gusts which blew over my mini Greenhouse shelving plus all my trays into a pile of compost on the patio..

    So yesterday I set too and swept up the compost, separated the tiny seedlings and started all over again..

    Hubby said you are very calm, aren’t you mad? I said what’s the point.. I then laughed as I remember thinking how much I had enjoyed pricking out all those tiny seedlings.. I said.. The Universe is offering me a second chance of enjoyment.. 🙂 as I repeated the whole process.. Taking another 3 hours to replant.. 🙂

    I will take Tuesday Frank.. ” Moment of Laughter Day”… Its bound to be full of laughs, as I get my granddaughter for sleep over tonight and all day tomorrow.. 😀

  11. Hi Frank! That video was cute – loved the one with the cat! Will definitely be celebrating Garden Week – have a lot of yard clean up to do and beds to plant, but I love it! Spring is my favorite season. My son is home from Clemson – his boat won a silver medal in the regatta on Sat. He liked it so much there, he’s putting Clemson on his college list. He really missed opening day here, though. And my daughter was just diagnosed with mono, so I’ve been on double duty at home and at work – always something! Hope you have a great week!

  12. This weekend I mowed the grass and watched the Masters Golf Tournament, which in turn influenced me go to the driving range where I messed up my back trying to hit your trademark 240 yd. average drives.

    Thanks for reminding that today is Scrabble Day. Scrabble is my third all-time favorite family game next to Quiddler and Monopoly (using the new set of rules), and I was encouraged to find that one third of all U.S. families own a Scrabble game. Following is how Scrabble got started:

    “In 1938, American architect Alfred Mosher Butts created the game as a variation on an earlier word game he invented called Lexiko. The two games had the same set of letter tiles, whose distributions and point values Butts worked out by performing a frequency analysis of letters from various sources, including The New York Times. The new game, which he called “Criss-Crosswords,” added the 15×15 gameboard and the crossword-style game play. He manufactured a few sets himself, but was not successful in selling the game to any major game manufacturers of the day.”

  13. We had a somewhat low-key weekend cooking a few dinners at home and enjoying milder weather. As I’m turning my thoughts towards the vegetable garden, I think I’ll celebrate Plant Appreciation Day today, Frank. Have a good one!

  15. Happy to see you Frank – good Monday to you. Worked overtime doing a final cleanup in the gardens and yard this weekend, getting ready to trim all the bushes next weekend – then it’s onto planting annual flowers. I love this time of year. Rain storms are incredible this year and we are hoping at the end we’ll see that all our lakes have been filled with enough water that we are drought free for this year. Love Wednesday, Husband Appreciation Day (says it all). Best of this week to you ~

  17. Pigs are some of my favourite people Mr Frank. I tend not to put mine on my fork for just that reason. I had a dichotomy of ethics yesterday as Stevie-boy and I had worked out the very BEST present for the son-and-heir (who turned 33 yesterday). He makes up for the shortfall in the meat department that I have created. We cancel each other out. Where I am “plant muncher narf7”, he is “Meat boy”. Yesterday we headed to the butchers early and we bought “Meat boy” an amazing selection of gourmet meats for his sensory gratification on his birthday. Unconventional, yes, did he love it? “HELL YES!” Looks like we nailed it again. The reason I am talking about this is that one of the shining stars in his gourmet meat hamper was a selection of gourmet sausages prepared by “Nigel the sausage king” who has won numerous awards for what he shovels into animals intestines. The crown on the sausage crop was closely contested but was won, in the end, by “The cheesy pig” an overstuffed creation consisting of (I am assured) chicken, pork, lots of cheese and a skin. I have been told that they are being saved for this weekends lazy Saturday morning breakfast in bed. Dichotomy of ethics over for another year 😉

  18. Hmmm. Here’s one of my facts, rather appropriate for Garden Week. Scientifically speaking, a tomato – or if you are British, tomato 🙂 – is definitely a fruit. True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant. In the 1893 case of Nix v. Hedden, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that, for purposes of the Tariff Act of March 3, 1883, tomatoes are vegetables, which proves beyond doubt that they are indeed a fruit. I’d still use it in a vegetable salad and not a fruit salad though 🙂

  19. You had a another full weekend! We were much calmer this weekend than the previous. NO entertaining! And I spent a lot of it in the garden as we continue to plant and cultivate drought-tolerant plants. It’s an interesting challenge. I think I have the “rules” clear this time for our musical mid-week party. I’ll try to avoid that buzzer!

  21. Hoofing it for piggies! Sounds like you guys are hogging all the sunshine – but that’s ok. Been a tough winter, we’ll share.
    Feeling a little better but not up to speed (Molly still insists that twice a day dog walks are best for getting well…which would be fine if they didn’t end up in running sloshingly down blocks in downpours. Somehow the yard gets mowed which is good since all this rain and warm weather means lots of rapid growth…and lots of fire ant hill battles between rain storms…nothing discourages them and I want to plant some flowers tight where they keep building. ARRRRGH
    Hmmmm, fruits. Must channel Carmen Miranda….

  22. Tuesday sounds like a great day; moments of laughter combined with ex-spouses and being kind to a lawyer. Well yes, works somehow.

    Weather here in fabulous Dallas has been a bit wet. Not going to complain, we are down to watering only once every 14 days, so if a little rain must fall let it come on down.
