Two new candidates for 2016 race for US President are officially in the race: Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). Although neither is unexpected, it will be interesting to see if Mrs. Clinton implodes and if Mr. Rubio becomes the second choice of most Republicans.
Here’s an interesting closing by Aaron David Miller (Woodrow Wilson International Institute for Scholars) in this Op-Ed at CNN about Hillary Clinton.
Clinton’s biggest challenge on the campaign trail and in office should she win is whether she can develop a foreign policy vision and an effective approach to the world that strikes a better balance between the risk-readiness of George W. Bush and the risk-aversion of Barack Obama. And given the cruel and unforgiving nature of the world America now inhabits, this will be no easy task.
I appreciated Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus’ take about the situation involving President Obama, Republicans, and Iran.
Last Friday morning I added the news about the passing of Lauren Hill. I was surprised how the positive message and stories continued. Here’s one of the early tributes.
After Lauren Hill played her first game, I wrote about some of the other positive aspects of that game, which included the role of Hiram College and its players. The mere fact that their team made the 4-hour trip to Cincinnati for the memorial service says a lot about how they were impacted.
This week included anniversaries of the Lincoln assassination and the Titanic disaster. I included an article about each in the Interesting Reads.
Act 2 of Meals: The Musical featuring fruit was a big hit. Choices were numerous as my prep list included apples, apricots, bananas, blackberries, blueberries, cantaloupes, casabas, cherries, elderberries, grapes, grapefruit, kiwis, lemons, limes, mangoes, oranges, peaches, pears, plums, raisins, raspberries, strawberries, tangerines, and watermelon .. then toss in grapevines. Well done!
No Saturday Morning Cartoons this weekend, but Saturday will bring a new Explore post.
Here’s an interesting trivia question to ponder. Hopefully, I will remember to give the answer on Monday. Category is US Geography. Person X is standing in State Y. No matter if Person X travels directly north, south, east, or west, the next state encountered will always be State Z. Where (what state) is Person X standing, and is the next state?

X,
Can you get to Michigan by going west? Thanks for trying.

There is a kind of a nook of Wisconsin created by a Menominee river that juts into Michigan. From a part of that nook, you can go directly north, south, west, or east, and you end up in Michigan.
There are many places like that where states border follows along Mississippi river.

I believe I found your suggestion on the map. Well done … plus the reason why the person who first asked me the question referred to the location as a population center … which I failed to do. Shame on me.

Thanks for watching this tribute. The reporter (and station) were the ones who introduced the world to her story, which ( to me) enhances the meaning of this tribute. Simply an amazing story.

Even looking at a map, I’m having trouble seeing it…Then again, it is close to my bedtime… Will mayhaps try again tomorrow!
I can never be silent so that’s not going to happen… 😉 ; I could do a Haiku but I’ve my Friday Fictioneers to present and I hate posting twice in the same day – guess I’ll admire all the Mustangs that drive by!
Hate golf (sorry!) but I can definitely carry a poem in my pocket…
It’s almost always garlic day in my house but I like the idea of just hanging out. Will the weather do its part? We shall see…
Have a marvellous week-end, Frank!

Well now … my garlic-loving, poem carrying,, Haikuist who hates golf has shared much. 🙂 In terms of the map, I found X’s location. My thought (although I didn’t say it) was a population center … and I’ll give you a hint … eastern half of the US.

I figured it was in the East but if it’s just one particular place, fuggedaboutit; I’m not that familiar with enough US landmarks… I’ll simply await the answer!

This is an interesting trivia question to ponder, Frank, but if I can’t get there via subway, it’s a place that’s not on my map. Tomorrow, I will inform Godsend that we have a conflict because it is both Blah! Blah! Blah! Day and Day of Silence. We’ll go for a compromise solution and maybe we’ll just celebrate Daffy Duck Day. I’ll turn her onto this gem: https://vimeo.com/101476519 And I will try to get to last Saturday’s cartoon post this weekend!

I’m curious to see Clinton’s campaign strategy. So far all I’ve seen is, I should run because it just makes sense to. Can’t base it just on history.

The deal on Iran that Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus advocated indeed happened last week.
If Hillary Clinton doesn’t implode she will be elected the 45th President of the United States. Given his brains, social conscience, battleground state credentials, JFK good looks, and communication skills, the same should be true of Marco Rubio, except for one problem – the GOP base.
Was today’s “Blah! Blah! Blah! Day” reminder intended to prod the release of my Congressional Job Approval report?

Your proclamation of reports allows multiple extensions of Blah Blah Blah Day. In terms of the early presidential candidates, blah blah blah.

Well, Clinton certainly has a vehicle worthy of cross-country jaunts. Have you seen her big black beast? She calls it Scooby, since it reminds her of the Mystery Machine. But it’s more like the Mystery Machine of a horror flick. 🙂

I don’t particularly want to see Ms Clinton in shorts, let alone Mr Marco Rubio. I think some things are best left unsaid, and in this case completely unseen. Is the state “confusion” Mr Frank? ;). I would vote for that candidate. He certainly appears to like his food and anyone with a penchant for food is AOK by moi! Yeah, I heard that it was blah, blah, blah day on the radio yesterday when Stevie-boy and I were out pounding the pavements with our muttley crew on a new adventure walk. They met a new doggy friend who invited them into his house via a most cleverly disguised hole in the fence. We declined his kind offer of a play date. I am entirely happy that this school holidays (we are at the tail end of 2 weeks off) I managed to do everything that I wanted to do in this time frame. No blah, blah, blah here (apart from the jungle/garden and that we don’t talk about. If you don’t talk about it, it isn’t there…). LOVE Neil Diamond and John (cougar) mellencamp is the voice of small town America Mr Frank. Excellent cherry choices. We made cherry wine this year, that resulted in a lot of Youtube singing events. Must remember to make more next year…

I’ve been impressed on how Lauren Hill’s story has swept across the country, Frank. I am not sure I would have tuned in to it had you not first introduced, but I am glad you shared. She was a remarkable young woman. Your geography word problem is way beyond my abilities, I fold! I think it was questions just like it that robbed me of IQ points on a test somewhere around sixth grade. I can remember the humbling experience! LOL! But I do follow politics and music, so thank you for that. 🙂

Debra,
No problem on the geography trivia question. Answer will be on the Monday Morning Entertainment. Interesting how the Lauren Hill story swept across the country. The lady was a very positive force for about 6 months. Following her passing, Dick Vitale (ESPN basketball analyst) donated $250,000 to her fund drive! … so her push continues.

It would be hard to argue against the Ruth Marcus column on the Iran nuclear deal. I think she nailed it. As for Hillary Clinton’s rollout, so far I think it is disastrous. Her staged talking campaign reeks of insincerity and given her long and controversial public history, of hypocrisy. Seems to me that voters have historically yearned for that difficult, and maybe impossible to find, presidential candidate, a fresh face, but with experience. HC ain’t it, and if she’s the Democratic nominee, I predict she’ll lose the election.
Personally, I like the cut of Martin O’Malley’s jib, but he lacks foreign-policy experience. If HC should pick him for VEEP, it would make an interesting combination. Jim Webb won’t cut it because he has yet to embrace traditional progressive issues. Just my two cents’ worth. 🙂
