Opinions in the Shorts: Vol. 258

Biggest yawn of the week – Providing 3 new presidential candidates on the Republican side: Carly Fiorina, Ben Carson, and Mike Huckabee. Then again, additional candidates increases the odds of someone saying something stupid.

Several weeks ago I posted the graphic below showing our energy usage for the past year. Some of the reasons include LED lights in high-use areas, natural gas water heater and stove, programmable thermostat, and reasonable temperature settings.

I asked my wife what song the handbell choir is playing for the final Sunday before the summer break, and a hit from years ago. Here’s Morning is Broken. Enjoy. Do you recall the artist who made it a hit?

    Omigosh are they a scrawny bunch of Stray Cats! Talk about going down memory lane!
    Going to be a busy week-end! Yummy Coconut Cream Pie, Butterscotch Brownies… Do you think Mothers got together to make Clean Up Your Room Day the same day as Mother’s Day? I’m thinking there are scads of moms out there who wish for that as a gift!!!

  3. This week, and specifically weekend, is graduation day for Jacob. So we postponed mothers’ day. There will be other years to celebrate that on time!

  4. i love Stray Cats–and Cat Stevens. I’ll try again with the “Meals” again this week, Frank, although it hasn’t been working for me. We’ll see how it goes. It is a big yawn, but I laughed when the candidates started announcing this week. It’s not a laughing matter, I know, but all I could think of was “what a circus!” I think we’re in trouble!

      Meanwhile the presidential circus has officially begun. Too bad it’s only on one side of the aisle because a doubleheader would be a lot of fun.

    I loved the handbell version you shared.
    *Unfortunately I could not watch the video from this part of the world: the uploader made it unavailable in my country! …not very nice of them! 😉

Your read “The fossil record: What it shows,” led me to Kelsey Louma’s blog article, “Where are the Transitional Fossils,” which pointed out that “the number of transitional species is massive and it grows with each passing year. Given the rarity with which organisms are actually fossilized, the amazing thing is actually the completeness of the fossil record, not its incompleteness.”
    Kelsey Louma’s article also led me to find out about “The Human Origins Project,” a joint initiative of the National Geographic Society and the Turkana Basin Institute, which will utilize cutting-edge technology to become the largest and most informative multilingual resource available on the subject of human evolution.

      Glad you enjoyed the fossil record article and that you followed the link. I will have to take note of your wording because given the rarity of fossilization, the record is not complete and the transition fossils are massive (although they most definitely exist and are most definitely growing).
