Whether a snack, something on the run, a glorious sit-down feast, or something in between and regardless of the time of day, food is a life necessity. There are three aspects to a truly fantastic meal: the food, the occasion, and the company. We know Meals: The Musical is a festive occasion where friends gather to share wonderful music – thus the acts will focus on what the dining friends encounter.

Act 10: The Mess
The meal is done – the guest are gone – the host is left with the mess. It’s been a grand time but, so much work is necessary to bring order back to the house. This act features songs with the following in the title: fork/forks, knife/knives, spoon/spoons, bowl/bowls, cup/cups, glass/glasses, dish/dishes, pot/pots, pan/pans, and kettle/kettles.

Caution: These items have multiple meaning, so make sure the term is used in proper context. (EX) Heart of Glass (Blondie) is NOT acceptable because “glass” is not in the correct context.

Production Note
To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please 1) include the song title and artist in your text, and 2) paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.

Announcement

  1. Well here you have Kiss’ “Silver Spoon” which I would recommend you not play just before going to bed — it’s not the nicest song.

But, even though Tim, above, already used it, I’m going to add this video of a shark singing Mack the Knife. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bpF7kkg3v0 . When my Dad died, my brother Bob insisted that Dad wanted “Mack the Knife” played at his funeral. Nobody knew why. It was before YouTube, and it was not a popular song in December/January 2000/01. While we were out shopping for other things, my niece noticed this fish, which, coincidentally, played Mack the Knife. We bought it and presented it to my brother. We could hear my dad howling in our minds’ eye.

    • Isadora,
When it comes to forms of the word (as spoons vs spoonful), The Producer is an unpredictable soul. In this case, he approved. A surprise to me because is didn’t give me his reasoning … then again, he claims he doesn’t have to give me a reason.

      • Thank you kind producer for your leniency. But, Isadora is a perfectionist and finds herself torn between accepting the free pass and doing better. Here is her ner entry which may be much more accurate.
I do love me some wine, aFrank, so in finding this video I was wishing it was 5:00 p.m. for my vino but unfortunately it is a mere 10:46 a.m. Hope this is enjoyable to the producer.

        • Isadora,
Although I am the one who writes the posts and replies to comments, The Producer is his own being – maker of his own decisions – yet I am the one who has to deliver his decrees. Yet, The Producer tells me he doesn’t give free passes, and the fact of the mere thought of one makes causes him to scrim in order to rearrange the batch of burrs in his underwear. My suggestion is simple – Don’t try to manipulate or play The Producer because he typically has adverse reactions to such actions. Meanwhile, what a beautiful duet!

        • Sorry, but I’m confused. I had no intentions of manipulating anyone. In fact, manipulation isn’t in my vocabulary. It’s a negative behavior. I apologize if what I wrote sounded like that. It was never my intention. 😥
          p.s no need to explain.

  2. Frank, where on earth do you find these songs? This one cracked me up. The lyrics are so vivid (I could just see “Big Mary’s” place and the spread on the table). I’m just beginning to get back into the swing of things after moving, and this was a fun post to reenter on. Too cute!

    • Debra,
The Producer seems to have you spooked! On one hand, The Producer looked puzzled because the title clearly fits the parameters. On the other hand, personal pleas add burrs to underwear.

  3. Very very late or too late, but here are a couple:
One more cup of coffee [Bob Dylan with Joan Baez]: https://vimeo.com/24750213 [hard to find a decent video!] and second is by Radiohead BUT Brad Mehldau’s [Brad Mehldau Trio] version, Knives Out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C3A-ml85B8 [brilliant musician!] 🙂
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!
ps she is back [well – gradually gathering up all the pieces as I left many of them back by the sea!] 😉
