I loved Barcelona … vibrant, charming, eclectic … so much to see … so much to do. We used our time well for the portion of 3 days we had there, yet I am confident we could spend another 3 days and see all new things – and still no museum time.
Barcelona is a continuous visual feast. The eyes never stop moving, thus always finding something that is striking to the eye.
No matter if in the Old City ….
… or in the portion of the city that grew during the late 1800s and early 1900s
… or in the unique forms of the Modernist architects of the early 1900s …
.. even in the more recent designs …
Barcelona is a visual feast. Although I loved the diversity of its architecture, its balconies continually captured my heart.
I would love to visit here…has been on the bucket list for 5 years now. sigh….

Stayed just within the Old City, but less than a block from Placa Catalunya. 8 days must have been glorious!

I had to hold myself back on taking pictures of balconies. Simply so many caught my eye, thus I had to share a few. Given the wide range of architecture, you can see why I describe Barcelona as a visual feast.

Barcelona is a visual feast for sure. Even more so because when we were there several years ago, we spotted a completely nude man walking down the street. He was covered in tattoos. But we could still…er…make out his anatomical details…
Great photos, Frank!

I see the Gaudi designed Cathedral still coming along – I see the very beautiful ancient and very old and the less beautiful very modern – but like you, the balconies take my eye and imagination! What a gorgeous city, I think you could live there for a year and still find something new and wonderful to observe Frank.

Pauline,
Especially in Europe, I’ve learned to keep looking upward for so many gems, which means I miss many great doors. Gaudi’s cathedral was simply amazing, and yes – it gets its own post.

What a great point. These balconies are shallow. If two people are sitting at a small table, they are half in and half out. … and I’ve seen the balcony in Verona.

I’m a fan of the old, the laneways always intrigue me. The stone blocks are far me interesting than glass for me, they tell a story, where the glass just reflects.

Gaudi’s architecture is quite different – and I image not liked by all. We heard someone say that they been going to Sagrada at least every other year, thus enjoy seeing the progress … so it will be interesting to see what progress you notice.

Yes we went to the cathedral. You could tell where Gaudi had been in charge and where the newer work was being completed. He had a very sure vision. I bet they’ve done a lot since I was there.

I’ve had architect friends make multiple trips to Barcelona, almost like a pilgrimage. I can see why! A visual feast indeed. What an interesting city, and I’m sure you’re going to be “feasting” on the hundreds of photos you probably took while on this fabulous vacation. I am glad to see the ones you’re able to share.

Between our two cameras, we came back with over 800 pictures. I’ve put them together, and then sorted them in to folders based on locations. The next step is to delete in order to capture the best … then we’ll make a small book for friends to see.
Meanwhile, I can understand why architects see Barcelona as a pilgrimage. All this means you need to get there!

Cheers to us for our attraction to buildings. If I could have taken a picture of everything that caught my eye, I wouldn’t have seen as much of the city because it would be too time consuming. 😉 Have you been to Barcelona?

No, aFrank, I’ve never been to Barcelona or Europe. I don’t think that will be something I’ll be able to accomplish. But, I always say never say never. 😊 My hubby’s father’s family is from Corsica.
Speaking of hubby, he’ as patient man but if I constantly stop to take a photo of a building, he pipes in that we’ll get to see “Zero” unless I stop snapping pixs. LOLOL
Sometimes, I wish I could go to one place I love for a month. That would be perfect. Well, your photograph’s do express your love for Barcelona; especially, La Sagrada. Isn’t it wonderful to have a memory about a place that will live on forever? The perfect ending for a vacation.
Happy weekend – ing !!!!
