On a Reprise MME-Style

No – Monday Morning Entertainment (MME) isn’t returning – but given the holiday week for us in the US, mimicking an MME post is an idea.

How was your weekend? What did you do?

Crazy busy for me. Sure we had time for an evening of ballroom dance and an evening with the church wine tasting group … but I spent Friday afternoon, Saturday morning & afternoon, and Sunday afternoon with a paint brush and roller. YUK! Given that much time, we made progress – but now I’m way behind replying to comments. 😦

With my wife still in the handbell choir, I heard their pre-service rehearsal and both the services – thus enjoyed a beautiful piece that they played well.  For those who enjoy handbell music, here’s a recording of the song.

Thursday is Thanksgiving for us in the US. It’s a good holiday marked by a grand meal and time with family. Turkey is the centerpiece of most Thanksgiving meals, but whether people say “dressing” or “stuffing” is regional. See this map.

Friday is a major shopping day, and some stores are even opening Thursday night – but I will avoid shopping areas as much as possible. When growing up way back in the day, I used to proclaim the holiday season didn’t start until I saw the commercial with Santa riding the Norelco sleigh. What the heck – with a few radio stations adopting an all-Christmas music format a month ago, why not show one of those commercials.

The holiday also means a different posting schedule this week. For me, I’m unsure about what lies ahead this week, so I remain non-committal for the days ahead. Surely I will have something, but I don’t know when.

It’s a crazy world these days, but I think of many of the good things for which I’m thankful. After all, there is always something for which to be thankful. A good disposition, good health, a loving wife, good family, good friends, and many fond memories. I’m thankful for what we take for granted – food, water, a comfortable home, modern conveniences, community services, and more.

As my volunteer opportunities continue to place me in the presence of many good people, WordPress provides countless positive interactions with members of the interactive global community. My blogging community touches my heart – and to think I receive bountiful sincere and positive vibes from all the continents is something I never envisioned. All of you help me keep my faith in humankind. May the blessings of Thanksgiving touch all hearts everywhere.

To send you into the week, enjoy this compilation of vintage dancing movie clips from movies brilliantly put together. Have a great week.

  1. Lovely way to start the week. If nothing else, my very old uncle (101) used to always say, “Each day you open your eyes, be thankful for that.”
An odd restless disruptive year, but much to be grateful for. Much to ponder as we go into the Dec celebrations/holidays around the world.
Who can’t get a smile over memories of those electric razor ads? Jingle on (as there’s time and energy)
Frost on the pumpkin/roof this morning – but never in bloggers’ hearts.Cheers!

    • Mouse,
Oh my … frost all the way down there? Wow!!! Hooray to another remembering the ads as Santa on the Norelco .. and to me, a classic! Meanwhile, “much to ponder” in today’s world is an understatement. Whew! … We need more dance videos to make us smile. 🙂

  2. Though I’ve said ‘dressing’, I usually say ‘stuffing’, so now I know why. Lovely bell carol. Thanks for the link. I’m grateful for the things you are too, Frank. We should never forget how blessed we are, even when times are tough. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

    • Carrie,
For a long time I’ve said that the most important decision in life is the people one chooses to be around. Professionally, in the neighborhood, socially, and yep – in blogging too … that rings true.

I saw the stuffing/dressing report this morning, so it was a last-minute addition … it would be interesting to dive into the numbers a bit because I love trivial stuff. Hope your family has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  3. I’m not so sure about your map, Frank! I’m from CT and grew up calling it “dressing” — but I have adapted and now call it stuffing. We used to stuff the turkey, but … And I make the best stuffing/dressing!

Thanks, Frank for that wonderful film clip — all my very favorites were in it (Gene & Jerry being my fav).

I too am thankful for the things I don’t normally think of as special. But they are. And thanks for being such a good bloggin’ buddy Frank — I’m always aware of how special my fellow bloggers are! May you and Right Angle have a wonderful holiday.

    • Elyse,
The dressing/stuffing stats are courtesy of Butterball … but we would be interesting to see the survey numbers. More importantly, we’ve been together a long time, and I cherish that .. thus a special thanks for this end. Wishing you and musical John all the best!

  6. Lovely post, Frank. PAINTING Double YUK. My sister is in a bell choir and she always says she wishes she could be at the back of the church to listen since all she can hear is her bells. Happy Thanksgiving. I actually remember a two head Santa commercial. Was in the early 60’s

  7. The Uptown Funk dance video is just great! I will look at that many times. You fit a lot into a weekend, especially if you did all that painting! Not fun, perhaps, but I hope you have a wonderful sense of accomplishment! I appreciate your spirit of Thanksgiving. It’s good to actually stop as friends and family and to remind each other of our blessings, and Thanksgiving just gives us a good place to start. I will always look forward to your posts, whenever you find your way, Frank! A little freedom with the schedule this week sounds like it’s on track. 🙂

    • Debra,
I’m with you about the Uptown Funk dance video. As I watch the timing, wow … someone did a lot of great work! In terms of the painting, each time (3) I ended, I had to race to change in order to get ready for whatever we were doing. That’s crazy! Meanwhile, thanks for the kind words … and wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.

  8. On a related topic (Okay, it’s completely unrelated)..I have been getting all these email come ons since I read your post about said email come ons. The latest one asked me if I was interested in Japanese women. I mean, how do they get away with insulting a population like that? It’s just wrong. I felt really badly about their tasteless come on so of course I answered yes.
    That probably wasn’t a good idea…..
