Last Friday my wife and I went to US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. It was her first visit to one of the finest government museums outside of Washington, DC … and admission is free.
In this recent editorial in the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Director of the Cincinnati Zoo ended his column with these words: You can sure tell who your friends are when the chips are down. I continue to wonder why they lack of outcry for the killed alligators at Disney World in Orlando.
Golf’s U.S. Open ended last week with a bit of a controversy that (fortunately) didn’t affect the outcome. With other sports using video replays to get the correct outcome, I have no problem with golf using today’s technology. However, if a player only gets 5 minutes to find a potentially lost ball, rules officials should only get 5 minutes from the time of the potential infraction to make a ruling. Doing so hours later or at the conclusion of the round is a problem that could lead to future problems.
I’ve known many people from Cleveland and its suburbs. Heck – I even married a Clevelander. I can also remember the last time the city won a major sports championship (1964). With their recent basketball championship, The Onion does what The Onion does.
I look forward to the results of the EU Exit vote (BREXIT).
Our introductory class in Argentine Tango is over – and the class was a lot of fun – so we may willing to learn more.
One more act in Colors: The Musical – and it features songs with “White” in the title. Any ideas why I saved this color for the last act? Hint: See Act 1. See you this coming Tuesday (28th June) at 9:30 pm (Eastern US).

Last week I called for a national conversation around guns. This week, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate demonstrated the need for my request – and of course the partisans shun the idea by digging their heals into the stance.
I recorded the recent Libertarian Town Hall (on CNN), and I look forward to watching it when I get a chance.
People who follow elections realize Ohio is a swing state – and polls currently show a toss-up race. Here’s a short list that outsiders may not know about the Buckeye State.
  • Ohio is a strong Tea Party state. Even our Republican governor (Kasich) has bucked them.
  • The Cincinnati area has high viewership of reality shows.
  • Donald Trump’s personality fits with a large portion of the state.
In my opinion, American politics is off the rails – so this article from The Atlantic is interesting.
This week’s aFa Power Rankings for Donald Trump’s running mate: 5) Nikki Haley 4) John Kasich, 3) Chris Christie, 2) Jeff Sessions, 1) Newt Gingrich
The first week’s aFa Power Rankings for Hillary Clinton’s running mate: 5) Xavier Becerra, 4) Andrew Cuomo, 3) Thomas Perez, 2) Elizabeth Warren, 1) Tim Kane

  1. In terms of the sheer number of exhibits, the US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio is BETTER than any of the aircraft museums in Washington, DC.

Don’t expect the USGA or R&A to change any of the rules or procedures related to the events which occurred at this year’s U.S. Open Golf Tournament.

The New Yorker Magazine read “The Math Debate” went to my wife’s DePaul University math professor nephew. The Atlantic Magazine article on American politics going off the rails went into my golf bag.

Sadly, you got it right on Ohio. It will take a lot of money and a lot of ground game volunteerism to keep the Buckeye State from going for Trump, especially after the shocking news from Britain this morning on the Brexit vote.

A splat from “Man at amusement park gets right back in line for another funnel cake.”

  2. HI Frank,
I’m thinking that Tim Kaine will be the VP pick for Hillary — nice, dependable, no indictments … EW needs to stay in the senate as Banking Chair.

As for Trump’s VP, perhaps his racist butler?

I am really bummed by the Brexit vote. It makes me fear that the Donald may surprise us all again. Please don’t say he can’t — at least without knocking repeatedly on wood!

  3. The air force museum visit must have been very interesting indeed. I just read about the chimpanzee type bed, but if I have to sleep up in a tree, I think I’ll rather stick to my king size extra length pillow top. Have a great weekend, Frank.

  4. “Man at amusement park gets right back in line for another funnel cake”–Ha, can you blame him? Those things are so tasty I try to avoid them. Nothing good can come from them.

I was surprised by the Brexit vote. Lots of change for England ahead, it seems.

    • Carrie,
LOL … a enjoy funnel cakes, too! Fortunately, I do a good job of not going to places that serve them!

Brexit surprised me, too … well, I think it surprised a lot of people in the UK! Oh well … we’ll see what happens over time.

  5. Frank, your link to the Atlantic article on American politics is so brief that I think most will miss it, and that would be a shame. It is remarkably good – It explains Trump and perhaps even Brexit. I hope readers who are interested in politics and who may have missed it will read. For convenience, I repeat the link HERE.

  6. I think Elizabeth Warren is looking more and more like Hillary’s running mate. But Trump’s? I think our lineup of potential Trump “reinforcers” is a good bet. Should be interesting. Thanks for the Onion headlines. I can never make a good mashup because I Iaugh so hard at the originals. This one is the best this week: “Family mercifully pulling plug on grandfather unaware they are sending him directly to hell.” See you tomorrow night once I can think of a song with white in the title!

  7. I was looking at your colors post (I couldn’t think of one that hasn’t been used), and I realized I hadn’t seen this post. We were away for a few days, and now I have to catch up on work, so I’ll have to come back to read the articles. I’m glad you enjoyed your tango class. 🙂
