A friend will be my dance partner when we do a Bolero this spring at the studio both of us attend. Several years ago at the same event, she and I did a tango that some people still talk to us about. (FYI: My wife doesn’t like being the only two on the floor). For those interested, click the video below. FYI: Use the music for background while reading the post because not much to see in the video (on purpose). Hope you enjoy the song.
There are teens dumb enough to eat detergent pods?
Recently saw Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Definitely a movie with only a few good characters. Cheers to Frances McDormand for her Golden Globe performance. Interesting story, so Thumbs Up! The same for Darkest Hour – and to think that movie covered about 2-3 weeks.
Fiona, Cincinnati’s darling hippo, turns one on January 24th.
What a coincidence. On the day when WalMart announces increases in wages and benefits, it abruptly closed 63 of its Sam’s Club stores.
Last weekend our bell choir returned from the holidays to play a song with one rehearsal – and it went well! Click here for the video of our choir playing Day by Day (arranged by Anna Laura Page).
This is post #1998. There will be a post early Saturday, therefore #2000 should be Sunday evening (US Eastern). I hope you get a chance to stop by to say hello.
Embed from Getty ImagesI watched (on Netflix) David Letterman’s interview with Barack Obama. Very enjoyable.
I learned about President Trump’s degrading comments about many immigrants after publishing the last edition of OITS. I typically take the high road, but here’s my commentary: A shithole comment by a shithead.
As much as many like to complain about President Trump, I tend to laugh a lot – but complain about the Republicans who a) justify his actions, b) deflect his actions, and/or c) say nothing.
Three US Senators give two vastly different accounts of a meeting led by President Trump. At least 1 of the 3 is intentionally lying – not stretching the truth – intentionally lying. At least one senator, dutifully elected by the people to represent the people of his state, is lying with the purpose of favoring the party on an important issue instead of representing the people. Actually, this action is one step beyond partisanship normally exhibited by members of Congress.

To send you into the weekend, here’s another group that will soon be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What a fun, old-style video! In the words of Garrison Keillor, Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.
Thanks, as usual, for a great post! Like you, I tend to laugh at most of what Trump says and does, but it is only funny until you realize he really is president. I look forward to your 2000 post.

Patti,
Yep – one of the reasons how we use Stephen Colbert. In our case, I guess there is a fine line between laughter and sadness. FYI: Saturday marks one year … Ouch … sadly, I will observe the occasion here.

CONGRATS to your bell choir for their very expressive performance of “Day by Day.” I liked your dynamic contrasts, the subtle rallentandos at the ends of phrases, and how you watched your conductor and stayed together.
OUCH! I didn’t know Walmart and Sam’s Club were connected.
President Trump’s degrading comments about many immigrants were a result of him keeping his promise to continue saying the despicable things he said throughout his campaign. Hopefully the Republicans in Congress, now that they’ve got their “only in their dreams” tax cut, will stop lying for Trump and start holding him accountable for his words as well as his actions.
“Wall wishing it were load bearing” was a splat.

Tim,
Glad you enjoyed Day by Day … and the ring went well, especially because we prepared it in one rehearsal.
Congressional Republicans standing by President Trump continues to amaze me because they would be more successful with the alternative.
Another splat? Wow … I thought this collection would be splatless.

dt would not be able to do what he does without his enablers, and this makes me angry. I can’t laugh at what he says (or tweets) anymore, since he is president, and that is a frightening thought.
Frances McDormand was wonderful in Three Billboards. I can’t imagine anyone else playing that role. The young man who played her son, Lucas Hedges, was also in Lady Bird and in last year’s Manchester By the Sea.
Congratulations on your handbell choir’s performance, and good luck with your dance!

Love Il Divo! And the Cars, of course.
Hey, that’s pretty dang impressive for one take. I watched the video whilst enjoying a brief meditative repose this morning, so thank you for that!
Hmmm . . . Opera going for broke with Cajun accent.
Have a great weekend!

Marc,
Wow … you took advantage of all three musical offerings in this post … and that’s quite the variety!
I recall when that video by The Cars was a hit … and I loved it then, and still do now. Il Divo is simply so powerful – which is one of the reasons we selected the song.
Meanwhile, a Cajun opera definitely ignites imagination.

I need my music, it’s a must have. And the more variety, the more sated.
The Cars always bring me back in time, never fails. It’s such feel good stuff.
A Cajun Opera? I think that’s a doc on Netflix, lol.

Love music … and so many different types (but not all). Here’s a past post about our choir as we did a premier. https://afrankangle.wordpress.com/2013/11/11/on-premiering-a-fantasia/

I was very moved, reading the story about Nayak. What a wonderful father he is. His children must be so proud of him. I absolutely agree with you on all points Trump and his enablers. Obama wasn’t without his faults, but he’s an honorable man and a total class act in stark comparison to what we have now. I enjoyed listening to your Bell Choir. Very relaxing indeed. Have a great weekend, Frank. 🙂

Sylvia,
Glad you enjoyed the bell piece, which was peaceful. Thanks for watching it. …. and thanks for reading the article. I always put the list together not knowing who will read what – or even if any will be read.
All of us have faults, a leaders are no exception. But this administration is more like a side show.

“do a Bolero”—Ooh la la, that sounds so risque. Good thing your wife is on board. 😉

Carrie,
Ha ha … dance speak doesn’t work well here … should say dance a bolero. Bolero is slow … is stretchy when done at a high level. Yes – romantic. My partner will do a well at “selling” the dance. Here’s a bolero for you to see … but with skilled dancers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxxUY2cLVm8 … enjoy!

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for the link. Their movements are so elegant.

I knew you would enjoy it. Hope you can see why I described it as stretchy. The female also did a great job of selling the dance.

Jo,
My aim for OITS is to touch a variety of bases – thanks for verifying. Glad you enjoyed the handbell choir. Coming off the December holidays, we needed to put something together quickly – and this one worked. Hope you return Sunday night/Monday for the celebration.

Il divo – Ti amero – Is that the music you will be dancing to?
Someone said this about the left and right side of trump’s brain.
In the left side, there’s nothing right. In the right side, there’s nothing left.
Didn’t know the Cars were being inducted! The video is very cute!

Resa,
Dancing a bolero to Il Divo’s Ti Amero. Oh my … I haven’t heard that one about Trump’s brain. That is a hoot! … but you don’t know The Cars! Whoa …. guess I better put a strong of them together for OITS.

I really enjoyed the video of your bell choir, Frank. I know how much practice goes into these performances! We really enjoyed “Three Billboards,” Frank, and our film audience applauded at the end–and that almost never happens. This last week we saw “The Post,” and although no surprises, really, it was an encouragement to me. As long as we still have a courageous press I will not grow too defeated by the current state of affairs. And Letterman’s interview with Obama was so intelligent and civilized! How refreshing!
Good luck with your bolero, and I am glad you have a confident partner. I understand your wife’s position–I’m a lot the same way!

Debra,
Once again, just more stuff on how we are linked. 🙂 Make sure to see Darkest Hour (especially because you like history).
Thanks on the bolero wishes – which also reminds me I have to do a Bolero post!
BTW – Our choir director prepares us well … and also knows how to select music that fits us. In this case, I put it together with one rehearsal … and it worked.
