Thanks again for the Happy Anniversary wishes. It was a normal Monday for us (dance lesson and handbell rehearsal).

Readers provided many nice comments on the recent Beach Walk about horizons. I touched – thank you. The fact that the post inspired Merril to write a poem is quite the honor, so I invite others to read it by clicking here.

I greatly enjoyed NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Concert performed live last Sunday. Broadway voices are extremely powerful. (Actor portraying Judas was awesome!) Did you watch it? For those that didn’t but want to, NBC had it available on their site (for free). Click here.

Congratulations to the Villanova Wildcats and their fans for winning college basketball’s National Title. Not only did they soundly defeat opponents in the tournament, the regular season demonstrated they were clearly one of the elite teams.

For many golfers (included me), Masters weekend is fun television.

Cincinnati has a local station owned by Sinclair Broadcasting Group (SBG). When I first heard their statement about their responsibility toward reporting unbiased news, I thought it was the station’s response toward the “fake news” shouts from the White House. I later learned it was an edict from SBG’s upper management to all their local stations forcing lead anchors to read the editorial script. Meanwhile, SBG has prefered to slant toward President Trump. Time will tell if I move away from my preferred choice for local news.

Because I didn’t watch Roseanne back in the 1990s, why start now?

Earlier in the week I saw this headline: The burger that McDonald’s can’t answer. My response – That’s assuming one considers McDonald’s as master burgers.

I was a teen during the Dr. Martin Luther King years. No way I understood then about his impact. With the 50th anniversary of his death earlier in the week, Brookings Institute posted this wonderful collection of reflections by some of their experts.

John Pepper, a retired Chairman and CEO of Procter & Gamble and a retired Chairman of Disney, wrote this very interesting editorial about guns that is worth reading.

I’m still amazed at how many Republicans, and not just President Trump, are still running against Hillary Clinton.

More amazement: President Trump’s approval rating has been rising over the past three months.

I’m not sure what the Mueller investigation will find, but I’ve got the feeling neither party is going to be happy.

  1. I love that your latest Beach Walk inspired Merril – isn’t it great how we all “feed” off each other in a most wonderful way?

Tell me that isn’t so? Trump is moving UP in the polls? Ick, Puke, Barf…

Dang, I did watch Roseanne and I did want to check out the newest version but I totes forgot. Oh well… Not like I’ll lose sleep over it 😉

I had a great combo in my head but when I came to write it down, I lost it. Next time!

  2. Thank you for the link to my poem, Frank.
I did watch “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and it really was wonderful–great voices and imaginative staging (even though it was basically a concert show). I actually stayed up to watch the whole thing.
I wasn’t a big fan of the original Roseanne show, and Roseanne Barr in real life has become repugnant to me.
I had heard dt’s ratings have gone up, too, and I don’t understand it. “There’s a sucker born every minute?”
I don’t remember MLK’s assassination, but I was moved by all the remembrances this week.

  3. NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar In Concert was spectacular! My wife and I enjoyed it immensely.

“Family Has Way Too Many Daughters For Them Not To Have Been Trying For Son” was a splat.

  4. I watched Roseanne when it was originally on, but I didn’t watch the new episode. I’d like to, mostly to see what everyone’s talking about, but I’m not sure when I’ll find time to watch it On Demand. I already have so many recorded shows to catch up on. How does everyone keep up with things these days? It seems life has grown so busy. It always was, of course, but the digital age has made it even more so. We’re always checking into something.

    • Carrie,
There’s so much good TV today that some are calling it the new Golden Age of Television … that is when considering original programing on HBO, Netflix, etc. So yes – how does one keep up!!! Fortunately, skipping through commercials helps.

  5. The best part of Villanova winning the national championship in my humble opinion…they weren’t Michigan. The announcers for the last two Michigan games made me want to set my hair on fire. Never watched Roseanne the first time and won’t now either. She originally started her stand up career here in Denver. I got over the domestic goddess schtick quickly. ☺️

More evidence that most people vote with their guts and not with their heads, IMO.

  7. How many investigations are going on, like right now? As per the Taj House?

And no . . I love me a Big Mac or some equivalent from time to time, but the Golden Arches ain’t giving me the what’s what on burgerolgy.

I can’t say I watch golf. I watch Tiger Woods, yes. And I play, from time to time. My game resembles a cross between baseball and ultimate fighting.

    Love the opinions, as per.

    Have a great weekend, Cincy!

    • Marc,
The government investigating itself is a natural fit for failure. On similar line as Congressional Ethics Committee … Hello, isn’t Congressional Ethics an oxymoron?

I got to see a bit of the Masters on Friday. That course is set for risk-reward, which is what makes good television. Hope to see more today!

  8. I really, really, REALLY, enjoyed Jesus Christ Superstar. I’ve seen it performed before and I think this was absolutely superbly done. The actor portraying Judas was also Aaron Burr in Hamilton, and that was a Twitter thread. Total admiration for his talent and the humor in playing both Burr and Judas. 🙂 I don’t know if we don’t have Sinclair Broadcasting out here, but I didn’t see the scripted message. Kudos to the on-air men and women who at least spoke up against the pressure. I continue to have little interest, maybe NO interest, in Roseanne, but I do love music! I’ve found several podcasts lately paying tribute to The Moody Blues and enjoying every one! 🙂

    • Debra,
Oh my my … our list of commonalities continues to grow. 😀

The Sinclair statement seems simple on the surface, but once one digs deeper – oh boy! However, the vast majority of anchors did not buck what the front office wanted.

Each day we are closer to the Moody Blues induction!

  9. Villanova certainly was one of the best teams in college hoops all year long and it is nice to see that, after a chaotic tourney, we still got a truly deserving team to call Champion. Between the Eagles and Wildcats winning it all, excitement in these parts has only increased more for the Sixers, Flyers and Phils. The Sixers look to be the logical candidate to run the table next, although their youth and Joel Embiid’s health remain obstacles to hurdle. We also have a local Sinclair television station as well that, not only a fair amount of people get their news from, it partners up with the #1 station in the market to produce said news. It will indeed be an interesting dynamic at both stations if Sinclair gets ownership, as well as the others it is trying to acquire/would be affected, etc. Quite a Rock Hall of Fame class inducted this time around. One additional thought Frank – your Roseanne sentence was spot on as far as this household is concerned.

    • Bruce,
It’s been quite the year from Philadelphia … and who knows, there are still many months left in 2018! Meanwhile, we in Cincinnati continue to struggle.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about your local Sinclair station. The one here is very well respected, and we heard “the message” for about a week before learning it was a corporate mandate, plus more about the corporate culture.
