The Story
Welcome to Pronouns: The Musical.
Some may ask, “Pronouns?”, but we at A Frank Angle say, “Why not pronouns!”
A subset of nouns, pronouns serve as a substitute for nouns and noun phrases. These bits of linguistics and grammar are versatile and can almost refer to anything.
Although pronouns can be personal, objective, possessive, indefinite, relative, intensive, demonstrative, interrogative, reflexive, and reciprocal, this musical extravaganza focuses on selected pronouns.
Program
Act 1: I
Act 2: You
Act 3: Me
Act 4: He
Act 5: Him
Act 6: She
Act 7: Her
Act 8: We
Act 9: Us
Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love. (Mother Teresa, humanitarian)
The power of imagination makes us infinite. (John Muir, naturalist)
To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there. (Barbara Bush, First Lady)
Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it. (Stevie Wonder, musician)
We are all of us stars, and we deserve to twinkle. (Marilyn Monroe, actor)
History teaches us that unity is strength, and cautions us to submerge and overcome our differences in the quest for common goals, to strive, with all our combined strength, for the path to true African brotherhood and unity. (Haile Selassie, leader)
Every great and deep difficulty bears in itself its own solution. It forces us to change our thinking in order to find it. (Niels Bohr, physicist)
Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained. (Marie Curie, chemist)
Guidelines
Songs must have Us in the title
Cautions
- No duplicates songs regardless of artists
- Foreign language equivalents unacceptable
- Contractions are acceptable at the discretion of The Producer
Production Notes
- To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please
Include the song title and artist in your text, and - Paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.
Announcement
Welcome to the latest musical by aFa Productions – Pronouns: The Musical.
We are all gathered at this wonderful theater for Act 9 because it’s all about us. Having a chance to have this group here, well – the aFa production staff couldn’t pass the chance. Ladies and gentlemen, if this doesn’t get you moving, you have a problem. Welcome to one of my favorite groups and favorite songs, so let’s hear those loud cheers for Asleep at the Wheel with Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens.
Act 10: They (Date TBA)
What a great song choice, Frank!
Dang… I forgot to get my ducks in a row and hell and damnation, there are not that many ‘us’ songs that come to mind! I do have Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wxyN3z9PL4

Dale,
Grace Slick’s voice is iconic! This was a finalist for the opener, but the chickens became a no brainer.

Hi Frank, Hi Dale, Hi All! I never heard your song before Frank, that was quite enjoyable to watch! I thought I had nothing – nada – zilch!! I searched through my play lists and nothing popped up – and then a wee bit of help via Pink Floyd and Dark Side of the Moon. Do you remember when we all loved that album? “Us and Them” https://youtu.be/deU_uwlNpOo It’s long, so unless you love it give it a miss….. 🙂

Excellent choice! I almost went there!

I thought of I Dig a Pygmy by Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf Aids but I’m in the mood for Peter Gabriel’s “Not One Of Us” from his third solo album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbwQ0Wy3ljQ.
To assuage the producer I will mention that The Doors have no songs with “us” in the title and will also propose Reverend Gary Davis’s “Let Us Get Together Right Down Here” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h2jy7X6xWw as the obscure blues track of the day. I am also hoping he picked up (and appreciated) the Charles Hawtrey reference.

Hadn’t heard that Gabriel song in eons! Wünderbar!
I love me some obscure blues, too.

Yahooey,
I didn’t know either song, but enjoyed both. Reverend is fun! Caution because I watched The Producer’s angst by repositioning himself in this chair so the burr in his shorts is more stimulating before grabbing from the bowl of broken glass for a snack – so I caution you, his official name is The Producer … as opposed to the generic the producer.

We saw Asleep at the Wheel a million years ago when we were in college. We had never heard of them, but tickets were probably five or ten dollars.
This is was a hard one. I finally something: Leonard Cohen, One of Us Cannot be Wrong https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCwLlLNL8k8

I didn’t know this one by Cohen, so thanks for the introduction. Sounds like a much-younger Leonard Cohen.

Yes, I think it’s an early one. I didn’t recognize the title, but then I knew the song once I heard it.

The late great – this is one of his songs I wish he would have sung at the end of his life (when I finally saw him in concert). The deeper voice and advanced ability to add emotion to his singing would have smashed this one I think.

Oh for sure… I think you are absolutely right on this one, Pauline.

Dear aFrank,
I’m pleased I was able to find a song that fits. It was difficult for me.
Then, I saw One of Us (ABBA) https://youtu.be/IIKAe8Wi0S0/
One of my favorite groups. It isn’t a fav song but ‘Us’ is in the title.
looking forward to the songs listed by others.
Happy Saturday …

To create an act, I create a list of songs for myself – it’s not exhaustive – but a list .. and many of the songs submitted here at not on the list (which is wonderful)! … But I still have many unused songs by big-name artists – then again, that doesn’t mean they were hits.
