It’s blog break time again. This time I’m hoping 4-6 weeks, therefore sometime in the last half of October. As with other breaks, I will probably precede posting with some visiting to make my presence known. Meanwhile, below are some odds and ends.
The blog break puts a pause on Pronouns: The Musical. They is the next act, followed by Them and It.
The previous post was the last one for the year. My plan is to write more the next time I return to the beach. I wouldn’t expect anyone to notice because the posts were months apart, but the previous walk was not the only time the walk featured waves. As a matter of fact, I used different versions of the same song (Waves – Mr. Probz). Check them out.
I will spend part of my blog break preparing posts featuring last spring’s bus tour that took us to many western US National Parks.
College football is in full swing and Saturday was a black day for the Big Ten – which lost 6 games to non-conference foes – of which 5 teams are NOT in a Power 5 Conference. Because the league has 14 teams, I prefer referring to the Big Ten as the Big Can’t Count – or the Big Can’t Count Past 10.
Think of Ohio as a square. Cincinnati is in the lower left corner, I grew up in the lower right corner, and went to college in the upper left corner. Sunday morning I went to Toledo’s (upper left corner) newspaper site to read about a college football game – and I was quite surprised what I saw as the feature article – an article about my small time in the opposite corner of the state that is a 4-hour drive – an article about a small town in rural southeast Ohio that struggles on various levels. Here’s the article.
Our current town has one of its water towers very close to our residence. Over the past several weeks, it’s been interesting watching workers clean then paint the water tower.
Wow – this headline from Pew Research is powerful and laughable: Republicans, Democrats See Opposing Party as More Ideological Than Their Own. Here’s the article.
Earlier this week marked the anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution. For purely their own selfish reasons, it is interesting how both political parties try to use/not use this document, use/not use words of the Framers, or use/not use the Federalists Papers.
“I doubt too whether any other convention we can obtain, may be able to make a better Constitution. For when you assemble a number of men to have the advantage of their joint wisdom, you inevitably assemble with those men all their prejudices, their passions, their errors of opinion, their local interests, and their selfish views. From such an assembly can a perfect production be expected? It therefore astonishes me, sir, to find this system approaching so near to perfection as it does; and I think it will astonish our enemies, who are waiting with confidence to hear that our councils are confounded, like those of the builders of Babel, and that our states are on the point of separation, only to meet hereafter for the purpose of cutting one another’s throats. Thus I consent, sir, to this Constitution because I expect no better, and because I am not sure that it is not the best.” (Ben Franklin)

So for now, and I’ve stated many time before, blog breaks are good. Enjoy this upbeat summer song because when I return, fall will definitely be in the air. Then again, it’s fitting for the approaching summer in the southern hemisphere. In the words of Garrison Keillor, Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.
Enjoy your break – see you in the fall!

Sylvia,
Sometimes blog breaks are longer than we anticipate – and that’s ok! Hang in there … and hopefully we’ll reconnect upon my return.

I quite admire your planned blog breaks Frank – mine tend to occur without any thought on my part; life just gets in the way of my blogging hobby 😀 Have a great break – stay upright! x

Pauline,
I have found (that for me), blog breaks are important every 4-6 months. So if this one goes as planned, I should be good until about March-April.

Hey–have a great break. We always benefit from what you post when you return. And, no, I have not used the “new” editing option. I have used the same old one since I started–even though “they” (someone?) always suggests I shift to an easier editing platform. I do not like change, especially if what I am doing still works well for me! Have a good break!

Patti,
Thanks on your thoughts regarding Gutenberg. I too stayed with the control panel with which I started. I’m not resistant to change, but like that one. Will touch base on my return.

Merril,
Most of the time my breaks are planned, but once in a while life gets in the way enough to step away. Then again, something can work for one person doesn’t mean it works for someone else.

Refreshing is a good term because I think stepping away from the normal routine is a good thing. Extra treats for the 3 from me.

A blog break: interesting concept, but I fear I would like the break too much and never get back to the blog. Thinking about it, that might be a good thing….

Jeff,
1) Blog breaks are good!
2) I first used “blog break” in this 2015 post. The comments were so good that I turned them into a series about blogging. https://afrankangle.wordpress.com/2015/04/27/on-the-blogging-blues/

Okay, Frank…spill the beans. Where are you traveling to now? Have a great break. See you when you return. Also, I ignored the Gutenberg changes. I think I’m getting old–hating change and all. Should I reconsider?

You shy dog … but hate to tell you I’m here to answer your comment. I may travel yet I may not … so I will answer the question on the post marking my return. Thanks for your thought about Gutenberg. I haven’t changed either!

Enjoy your blob break, Frank. We’ll be waiting for you. 🙂 I have no idea what the Gutenberg editor is…apparently I’ve missed something. Now I’m curious. I really enjoy Armik, so thank you for a lovely parting offering. See you upon your return!

Debra,
If you haven’t already done so, a Google search for Gutenberg editor WordPress will get you the info. So far, no reader here has stated they have tried it. Glad you enjoyed Armik – and blog breaks are always good.

The Pew Research Center article and Ben Franklin’s explanation preceding his Yeh vote to adopt the U.S. Constitution, both support what you’ve been saying for years about the state of the two major political parties.
Thanks for providing enough lead time during your well-deserved blog break on the final three “Pronouns: The Musical” to keep me from ever again getting stuck like I did on ‘us,’ which, by the way, my wife and I join Dale in never having heard “Save Us.”
OUCH – I felt your pain earlier this week over the article in the Cincinnati Enquirer saying that if UC beats Ohio U. this Sat. they will be 4-0 and only two wins away from becoming ‘bowl eligible.’
Three splats: The Onion Headlines “Climate researchers warn only hope for humanity now lies in possibility they’re making all of this up,” “10-year-old yelling at mom to watch cannonball while she’s trying to scope out younger men at pool,” and the quote by Meigs County Commissioner Randy Smith at the end of the Toledo Blade article about Pomeroy, Ohio.

Getting 3 splats is a goldmine of success! Glad you enjoyed the articles … and I hope you have all your songs ready. Hope all is well with you. Hope to return to posting in 5-10 days.

Happy Blog Break! 🍷🎵🍷🎵
I haven’t switched editors, yet. I was thinking of taking the tour. I’m still mostly on the original editor. The new improved one sucks, and now they have another one. WP never gets tired of fixing things that aren’t broken! 😀

Hello Toronto! I also use the original editor – but who knows what time will provide. I hope to ask the question again in the next OITS (whenever that will be). Hope all is well.

I would love to believe that, but when I heard someone call the Dolphins “unpredictable” recently, I had to laugh. Because they are SO predictable. It’s so bad right now that I picked the Bears in my pool after having picked my team against the Patriots and Bengals and getting toasted.

You picking the Bears is a good reason for a Fins win!

And maybe they dig deep and pull one out. The way the Bears are playing, I wouldn’t forgive myself if I went with Miami and the Bears beat them though.

Sorry, I accidentally flushed this post, I think. I saw it, then I didn’t. Marc mentioned you were on a blog break and I said, oh yeah! I didn’t get a chance to read it yet! Then I couldn’t find it.
So, you shall read this upon your return 🙂 Enjoy your break, your potential trip and refuel yourself.
NO, have not tried the Gutenberg because I loathe the “new and supposedly easy to use editor” and reverted to the old one. I’m frankly scared to try the new…

Morning Cincy!
All is well, indeed. Well, I lie. I am awake since 5-ish, couldn’t fall back asleep, then the boys got up to prepare for school/work and were very noisy so… here I am…
Going to try to go back to sleep! I worked a 10-hour very physical shift yesterday, setting up the banquet room by schlepping 15 tables to the side and placing 303 chairs… plus serve beer and lunch..
Looking forward to your return!
