The Story
Welcome to Pronouns 2: The Musical.
Some may ask, “Pronouns?”, but we at A Frank Angle say, “Why not pronouns!”
Why a sequel to Pronouns? Again, “Why not!”
Program
Act 1: My
My future is in my past and my past is my present. I must now make the present my future. (Vladimir Horowitz, musician)
I have shared my whole life. My private and my show business life. It helps me actually to feel my songs and to go on with my dreams. (Celine Dion, singer)
My thoughts, my beliefs, my feelings are all in my brain. My brain is going to rot. (Richard Dawkins, scientist)
What are my sources of strength? My husband and my three kids, my health-care team, and my religion. (Geraldine Ferraro, politician)
I was scared when I lost my mother, my father, my brother, my sister. (Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, musician)
I put all my genius into my life; I put only my talent into my works. (Oscar Wilde, dramatist)
My music is the spiritual expression of what I am – my faith, my knowledge, my being. (John Coltrane, musician)
I hurt my wife, my kids, my mother, my wife’s family, my friends, my foundation and kids all around the world who admired me. (Tiger Woods, athlete)
Guidelines
Songs must have My in the title
Cautions
- No duplicates songs regardless of artists
- Foreign language equivalents unacceptable
Production Note
- To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please
Include the song title and artist in your text, and - Paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.
Announcement
Welcome to Opening Night for Pronouns 2: The Musical. Never before in aFa Productions history have we ever had this fast of a turnaround. Then again, we feed off the enthusiasm of attendees. Thank you!
Act 1’s My theme offers many opportunities. Our production staff decided to go outside the box for this one. He’s a star – and he’s joined forces with a living legend for this song. Ladies and gentlemen – let’s make some noise for Toby Keith and the great Willie Nelson with Beer For My Horses. (Note: for the impatient, start at 50 seconds).
Next – Act 2: Mine (FYI: Not easy)
Love this choice, Frank! So very unusual for you, indeed. Good on ya! 😉
I’ll stick to my Canadian connections and perhaps introduce you to Sarah Slean with her “Your Wish is My Wish” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM9pCBjyrx0

I have no idea how many of her songs play in the US 🙂 At times, I find she sounds like Bernadette Peters! I love her…

I mostly listen to NPR, so you can’t go by me as to what is played here–but probably not much of her. 🙂

Dale,
Wow … now there a first song for my morning – as well as one that I don’t know (neither the song or the artist). Just the feel of the song delivered quite the variety – from the sultry jazz singer in a lounge to a melancholy feeling of being alone. From the elegance of a ballroom to be captivated by a performance in a concert hall. In other words – I love it! … and thanks for the introduction.

Gosh, first hearing for me with both yours and Dale’s selections. Sometimes this works out really nicely as we get to hear new music. My choice is Jackson Browne’s ‘My Stunning Mystery Companion’. https://youtu.be/zFuK0NLrELU

Jackson Browne is one of the great artists whose songs don’t make it into many musicals (for whatever reason). This one has a good feel for my Saturday morning. Well done!

So many choices. Even after choosing the (Canadian) artist, the album, I had to choose between Hey Hey, My My and its counterpart. As the latter opens the Album, and this is the first act, I propose Neil Young going out of the blue with My My, Hey Hey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4Y1wDdMYH4.

That would have forced to work harder at finding a Canadian angle to add to my choice. Do you think I could pass off Elmore James’ Dust My Broom (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKo80b-QfK0) as a curling song?

Drew,
The trend continues with another easy song to ease me into my Saturday. Love the contemporary soulful feel of this song. Excellent. I made sure the seat beside yours for your friend, so I hope that stop by.

I presume this friend with the saved seat is me? I was told to visit you and mention that I am friend of Mr. Lonely Author. He thought I would enjoy this and he knows me too well I think!
This is so cool. I am obviously following you and returning often !
So straight away I whizzed through your comments and was happy to see no one had mentioned one of my favourite songs My All, by Mariah Carey.
I used to work as a singer for many many years, so music is almost as important as my oxygen and I love singing anything by Mariah (I do prefer her stuff pre 2004 ish) and this song just does wonderful things to me, both when listening and singing it. Yeah…I can belt out a pretty good version of this!
Did I do well? 😉
Thanks for doing this. I know I am late to the party but this is fab xx

Fiery,
Welcome first-time musical attendee! Glad you found your reserved seat, but the staff was worried about you when we didn’t see you early. Then again, we also realize that life has a way of getting in the way of blogging.
Great choice! But after watching the video, it’s time for a cold shower!!!
You also did the right thing by reading/searching through the comments in order to make sure of this song’s availability. The manager of this production, The Producer, is quite cantankerous, therefore is constantly scouring for rule violators. He’s actually obsessively sadistic.
If you didn’t notice, the sidebar (Categories > Entertainment) lists the past musicals. I wouldn’t call them a weekely feature, but once a musical starts, acts are usually weekly. “Mine” is the next act – and the curtain opens next Saturday at 1:00 AM (Eastern US). Hope you return, and yes – you can tell others.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Yes life gets in the way of blogging. I’d be here all the time but I think my little one would have much to say aboit my lack of attention to him!
The video is pretty steamy yes but the words of that song…they mean a lot to me.
I will DEFINITELY be returning. I am notoriously difficult to shake once attached!
Loved this. So happy to be included. 😉

Mr. Producer …
You have selected one of my favorites singer/songwriters – Willie Nelson.
He could sing names from a phone book. His guitar playing and attitude make him unique.
I’d heard this one but I could hear it again and again and again. : )
Well …. I thought I was going to be unique in my selection of music. But, I see this quote
“My music is the spiritual expression of what I am – my faith, my knowledge, my being”
and have to laugh. Without a clue that his quote would appear at the musical I posted a John Coltrane song. Hope you enjoy …
Isadora 😎
ps: yes, I created a new line. 😳

Isadora,
Just so you know, I (Frank) would never let The Producer pick the opening song. Who knows what his sadistic, Stalinistic mind would come up with. He has specific duties here, but I limit them (much to his dismay).
Glad to know that I (Frank) picked a song you enjoyed. I liked this song when it first came out (learned about it by its video) – but this is different than my normal selection. 🙂

I’m familiar with producers. There’s quite a few I glared at when they didn’t like the choreographer’s routine and all had to begin again with a different dance.
BUT … ‘Forewarned is forearmed’: caution as I advance with warning. But, then again, there’s probably a pussy cat deep inside he’s surpressing. LOLOL (sinister laugh)
