The Story
Welcome to Pronouns 2: The Musical.
Some may ask, “Pronouns?”, but we at A Frank Angle say, “Why not pronouns!”
Why a sequel to Pronouns? Again, “Why not!”
Program
Act 3: Our
You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end, each of us must work for his own improvement and, at the same time, share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful. (Marie Curie, scientist)
It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light. (Aristotle, philosopher)
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. (Melody Beattie, writer)
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. (Thomas A. Edison, inventor)
Every moment in our lives is a miracle we should enjoy instead of ignoring. (Yoko Ono, artist)
Happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude. (Dale Carnegie, writer)
The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls. (Pablo Picasso, artist)
Education is the foundation upon which we build our future. (Christine Gregoire, politician)
Guidelines
Songs must have Our or Ours in the title
Cautions
- No duplicates songs regardless of artists
- Foreign language equivalents unacceptable
Production Note
To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please
- Include the song title and artist in your text, and
- Paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.
Announcement
Welcome back for Act 3 of Pronouns 2: The Musical. Picking out an opening act for this act wasn’t easy because Our songs include numerous hits and songs from named artists. So, the we decided to invite a big name who has never opened an act on this stage. Besides his musical success, he’s always owns several wineries. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give a loud and proud welcome to Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds with Lie in Our Graves.
Act 4: Their (next weekend)
I like your choice, Frank. I am not that familiar with Dave Matthews..
Since I am still totally obsessed with Bohemian Rhapsody (Did you enjoy it?) I have to give a Queen song “These Are the Days of Our Lives” https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=oB4K0scMysc
I finished work at 1… didn’t expect to still be first in line 😉

Dale,
Cheers to you being first. Those from across the world as Pauline, Marina, Yahooey, and others must have something on their plate today. Look into Dave Matthews because he has a lot of good songs. Cheers to your Queen selection – especially in light of Bohemian Rhapsody – Loved the movie!!!

Oh I know he does. I know I like some of his stuff. It’s just weird that I never got into him for whatever reason.
I was going to go with something else then figured…😉
I knew you would!

I so badly wanted to submit the song “Our Love Is Here To Stay’ by Goerge and Ira Gershwin (1938) prefromed by son many great artists Frank Sinatra, Billy Holiiday, Kenny Baker in The Goldwyn Follies (it was written for this film in 1938), Eric Clapton, Natalie Cole, and others.
Yet, the song has had three titles “Love is Here To Stay.,” “Our Love Is Here To Stay,” and its original but never used title “It’s Here To Stay.”
Wikipedia and other sources list the song as “Love Is HEre To Stay.” So I didn’t submit this beautiful song. Apologies for my long winded explanation of this wonderful romantic classic.
I didn’t want it to be lost and forgotten.
Instead I submit an 80s ditty from The Go-Gos. “Our Lips Are Sealed.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3kQlzOi27M

Drew,
Cheers to your research about the song. Tough decision because (as you know), we can find sources supporting each side. Let’s hope other proceed with caution about this long. Meanwhile, the Go-Gos and this song takes me back to the early days of MTV.

Yeah, I would call this an early MTV classic.
Thanks

You could say their sound help define 80’s pop. When it first came out, it was considered edgy, new, and now it sounds very pop to me. Personally it takes me back to the days of cassettes, my too-small-to-be-called-a-boom-box portable stereo and all female rock bands being a novelty.

Wow, Drew. Good on you for that research. And that’s just not cool – that songs get called by other than their real title, yet if you search with the “not real title” you find it…
Great Go-Gos song to get me moving!

Thank you so much. The song shows up as “Our” in the Clapton version ans a few others, but not in the Old Blues or Billy HOliday versions. That is why I checked.
Happy Sunday

I guess I don’t know popular songs because I had a hard time with this one. I finally found this little gem, Billy Holiday, “I Wonder Where Our Love Has Gone, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpm6y-IDFJQ

Merril,
Outstanding selection of Billie Holiday! I love that sound. I know you enjoy musicals, so I dived into my sources to find one for you … from The Beautiful Game (Andrew Lloyd Webber) here’s Our Kind of Love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVfONVaaTJI

Fab tune! Amy Winehouse did a fab version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxYRbzGi8RgHope I don’t get dinged, as it’s not my choice, just sharing.
LikeLiked by 3 people
You can’t get dinged, Frank did the same with the Dizzy Gillespie/Fabulous Fats Navarrow thing below 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
Correct … no dinging … (YET) …. because it is supplying another version of the same song within the comment string. However, this is typically reserved for people who have already submitted a song. The clock is ticking.

My contribution, classic Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. A song by Graham Nash, in love with Joni Mitchell, imagining his dream life in “Our House”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq2X60XP5cM.

And in my rush to submit, I forgot to say that Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds with Lie in Our Graves is a wonderful choice and Tim Reynolds’ guitar playing is simply superb.

Doing my best to up the percentage of Canadian in my contribution. Neil’s presence is a little light in this tune.

Now I’m all teary-eyed and missing Mick. This month has become the hardest.

Aw. The holidays have to be the toughest time. There are enough memories to fill a tub with tears. Mick was fortunate to have you and your love and you his as well. Maybe thinking of that love will help get you through this month. I’m sorry you have this pain, Dale. Of course, if you didn’t have that love there would be no pain or memory and I think that might be even harder. Peace and a hug.

Thank you, dear John! I’m not one to wallow and I’ll allow myself moments here and there but mostly I smile when I think of all the crazy and fun stuff we had together. Life moves forward and there are virtual hugs out there like yours that make things just a lot better!

A lot of great recordings of the jazz standard “Our Delight” to pick from, but I finally narrowed it down to one by Dizzy Gillespie and this one from 1947 performed by the Tadd Dameron Sextet featuring ‘The Fabulous Fats Navarro’ on trumpet (sorry Diz). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BliZDTeRgoY

Having a husband and wife singing gives extra weight to the “Our” of the song. It is also nice change form the typical couple’s song where they sing about the the other.
