Pronouns 2: The Musical – Act 6: Self

Welcome to Pronouns 2: The Musical.

Some may ask, “Pronouns?”, but we at A Frank Angle say, “Why not pronouns!”

Why a sequel to Pronouns? Again, “Why not!”

Program

Act 1: My
Act 2: Mine
Act 3: Our
Act 4: Their
Act 5: Your

Act 6: Self

The greatest self is a peaceful smile, that always sees the world smiling back. (Bryant H. McGill, author)

Choose to focus your time, energy and conversation around people who inspire you, support you and help you to grow you into your happiest, strongest, wisest self. (Karen Salmansohn, author)

There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self. (Aldous Huxley, novelist)

If we lose love and self-respect for each other, this is how we finally die. (Maya Angelou, poet)

Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self. (May Sarton, poet)

This above all; to thine own self be true. (William Shakespeare, dramatist)

Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement. (Golda Meir, leader)

Guidelines

  • Songs must have one of the acceptable words (listed below) in the title
  • Acceptable words will be Self, Itself, Herself, Himself, Myself, Ourselves, Yourselves, and Themselves
  • Special dispensation will be given to Its songs – but The Producer cautions because It’s is unacceptable

Cautions

  • No duplicates songs regardless of artists
  • Foreign language equivalents unacceptable
  • Beware of Its versus It’s

Production Note

  1. To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please
Include the song title and artist in your text, and
  2. Paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.

Announcement

Welcome to the final act of Pronouns 2: The Musical feature Self. Before introducing the opening act, we have a special announcement.

Starting in early January 2019 – probably January 5th – aFa Productions will be providing a new music event: the aFa Weekend Concert Series. This will feature songs from one artist. The Happy New Year post will announce the who will open the series. We can say that the first 5 artists have agreed to the scheduling. However, this does not mean the end of musicals. Actually, we’ve selected the next theme, and see opening in late April or early May.

We had many great songs and artists in our final list to determining the closing act’s opener. Good news that we know the list of available for this act is lengthy. The Act 6 opener will take us back to the early MTV days. Actually, 1984. It’s the title song of a platinum-selling album. Ladies and gentlemen, loud cheers for Laura Branigan with Self Control.

  1. It’s amusing to see how many people misspell its. I went looking for a good version of Willy DeVille doing “Every Dog Has Its Day” and only one had it spelled correctly. I decided on the performance at the Olympia theater in Paris with a guest appearance of the writer of the song, Eddie Bo, and a misspelled its: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdFxtvWYnwY&t=36. Amusing side note: Eddie Bo used the pronoun “his” in the 1960 original (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWW79qzZP7M).

    • Nice one, Marc, Feelin’ badass this morn? And to help out the ones who do a search, to make sure they don’t repeat… Imma add your title for ya.. coz that’s what I do, give a little help 😉 “Wit’ Yo’ Bad Self”

      • Ironically, I wasn’t feeling all that badass WHEN I woke up. But it’s coming on strong now. Must be the Bustello and biscotti. 😉 Which is supreme.
I should have done that! My bad, but I’m not used to this, yet.
And back atcha with the love, sistah! 😘

        • Well now… it’s hard to feel badass immediately upon waking and sliding outta bed. I start feeling it with the first cup of caffeinated elixir. However, I am very happy you enjoyed the Bustello and biscotti (I know, I know it’s NOT fruitcake). And no, no, ya done good!
Dang it, not on my phone… xo

        • I felt like I had gotten my ass kicked by a badass, to be honest. It took me a couple cups of good stuff, after which I made the executive decision to double down with a couple more. Which ain’t my regular way of doing business, but hey, sometimes you need a contingency plan.
I LOVE the biscotti! Sooooooo good! You are just so damned uber talented! I know one thing, I’m not gonna have better biscotti than that. I can’t wait to partake of the (not) fruitcake now!
Thank you again for being the hostess for the mostess. Yo. Da. Best.

        • I hear ya. I am about to make my third cup of the stuff.
So very glad you loved them… I have officially ruined you for the commercial sh*t! Woot!
Can’t wait to hear your impression of the not fruitcake…
          Always a pleasure.

        • I’m on said cup. And loving it. The biscotti didn’t hurt, of course. I’m so flipping wired that I’m actually watching Zombie House Flipping on A&E whilst listening to Rick Boss on YouTube.
I wonder how the not fruitcake would be with a beer?

        • I’m a third the way down, eating the “scraps” of the fruitcakes I made yesterday for breakfast – ya see, I cut off the tops so’s I can add the extras – though the recipe says to turn it upside down and decorate the bottom. I’d get nothing if I did that!
Zombie House Flipping? Rick Ross (Boss)? Lawsy…
As for with beer… you just let me know how that goes together, k?

        • Holy Moses that sounds divine!
It IS a work of art, yanno . . with that marzipan frosting. Wowza.
I had never watched the show before, but it’s not bad. All staged, which . . what a shock! A reality show? Staged? But still entertaining. Vegas House Flipping is good too, even if the couple annoys the fuck outta me.
Imma go beer and not fruitcake for shiz. I am on a mission.

        • And then it’s like I’m not really eating because, not a real piece, yanno?
          I’m glad you think so.
Mindless TV is not a bad thing!
          Keep me posted!!

    • Marc,
Glad you stopped by to participate and saw the announcement. You are the first to mention it. You’ll enjoy it … and your submission is a new one on me – but hey – I always like a different genre in the mix her.

  2. Whoa…some impressive tunes here. And kudos to those who found “its” songs. After what seemed like 87 hours, I abandoned that search in favor of “self.” Originally I was leaning toward Pink’s “Conversations with My 13-yr. Old Self” because…well…it’s Pink! Then I came across a couple of other artists who rang my chimes. Chris Isaak’s “Don’t Get So Down On Your Self” https://youtu.be/ImtrJj-JrHQ and a local band formed in Colorado Springs who went big-time with their “Counting Stars” hit: One Republic, “If I Lose My Self” https://youtu.be/TGx0rApSk6w. As we say around the Ranch at this time of year…Fleas Navidog! 🎄Cheers!

  3. The announcement is very cool!
I’m thinking you will name an artist, and we all get to pick a song? That would make a concert.
It sounds like fun. Also, happy to hear the AFA Musicals will continue. I adore all of your participatory posts. They are a positive happening! TY, Frank!!! 🍷clink!
