My opener was actually my second choice, but when I saw the movie, I knew this was it. Simply a great way to start the show. My first choice (and again, not obvious) will go to Cindy. Meanwhile, excellent choice for the follow-up song … and congrats for beating Marc out for the first slot.

Yes, well… in THIS particular case, I thought you would just put us all out of our “misery” and be done with it. But yours is definitely one to get things going
As for beating Marc, I ended up going out with a girlfriend and by the time I got home, it was close to 1 am so… I waited! Methinks, judging by Marc’s participation so early, is he is working early!

Most people bring a song to contribute (but within the rules) – Note: The Producer would scold me if I didn’t mention them. However, I will come through for you with one of my favorites – Somebody to Love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kijpcUv-b8M …. Love Radio Ga Ga. Probably my first memory of a song by Queen. Brilliant way to start.
However…I’m going for not only one of my favourite Queen songs but one of my favourite songs in general.
It’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgzGwKwLmgM
I LOVE it. Trying to think of a more uplifting, feel good song…almost impossible.
Also, it was basically the anthem of my University Drama Society, so a LOT of great (if foggy and Lambrusco laced) memories for me when I hear it.
Enjoy!

But thinking of the obvious one, something from “A Night at the Opera”. OK, I love that Queen was occasionally a Prog Rock band that didn’t sue synthesizers or a mellotron, and I love some of their Prog songs (after their prog days were over real fans were disappointed when the sticker that proudly proclaimed that no synthesizers were used was not to be found any place on the album “The Game”). Now here is their longest song, and it even includes a tape delay solo! Really. Starting at about 3:30, those odd vocal effects. Sue,
Well done reaching deep into the Queen song list .. .especially because I haven’t heard this one very much.

Wow… another rare one, Sue. Great choice.

Hi Dale. yes I have several old vinyl albums of Queen, and I always liked this song. I am showing my age of when bell bottoms were the rage and flowers were in my hair.. It was released the year before I got married. 🙂

Hi Dale, Hi Frank, Hi Concert Attendees! I’ve got to stop having a social life on a Saturday night I’m missing all the fun and by the time I got through all the songs banned and acceptable – I’m all Queened out. I do rather think the best of his voice was made when he sang with Caballe – and yes I know that isn’t strictly Queen.

Pauline,
Cheers to your active Saturday night! On the other hand, your afternoon allows you to be one of the early birds. Meanwhile, here’s the perfect song for you – after all, I don’t want you feeling Under Pressure … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoDh_gHDvkk 🙂

Great song with two legends joining forces. Unless you did it before I joined your concerts, you should do Bowie some time. .

Trent … This is concert #4 … so I can say Bowie is on the list for the future.

How was I so lucky to find your blog for #1? Thanks Isadora! Of course, having The Beatles as #1 makes perfect sense.

Absolutely … and thank you, Isadora! … She’s also plugged various musicals (which are a different format) … songs around a theme (keyword) by different artists. Each act in a musical features a different word.

Hi Frank! I had a very busy work in NYC, so I haven’t been active much this week on WP. Anyway, I didn’t see anyone post I Want It All(unless I’m missing it, lol), so that’s my choice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFDcoX7s6rE

David,
Welcome back. I’m sure NYC kept you busy. As I like to say, life has a way of getting in the way of blogging. Is NC still home? Your submission is one of the hit songs that’s still available. Good choice. FYI: I will have a travel-related post Tuesday night.

Yeah, NYC work did keep me busy. Hopefully, I’ll have more downtime on it as the project rolls along. For sure, life does happen and it has gotten in the way of blogging/writing at times. I’m glad my choice for Queen worked. LOL. I’ll be sure to check that travel-related post out when you publish it!

Looks like I came to the party too late to claim “Another One Bites The Dust” which, by the way, toward the end of my band directing career was unofficially banned as a high school pep band choice to play when the opposing team was down by more than 20 points. That said, I’m happy to offer “Bicycle Race” which I like mainly for the density and the mixing genius behind the recording tracks. The song itself is said to be a “thrilling ride” with references to cocaine, Star Wars, Watergate and John Wayne, and a solo played on bicycle bells. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GugsCdLHm-Q

Tim,
Well now – Interesting tidbit about pep band, Although late to the gathering, which is OK, you did well sifting through the comments to find not only a song – but also an available hit. Well done.

I forgot to come back to the latecomers 😉 Glad you finally broke the ice with one of the two choices that everyone avoided! It’s a great song and I don’t think they could even imagine to what extent it would become THE anthem for everything!

A song overused in so many occasions. None the less a good song. It’s one of those rare times that a no1 hit deserves to be there! 😉 Although I appreciate them, especially their first albums and of course FM amazing voice, I’ve never been a great fan of their music.

I’m looking and I can’t find it. Alluded to but never proposed – not even in the closing remarks. Too iconic? Bohemian Rhapsody in all its original grandeur: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ9rUzIMcZQ. All together now: Galileo, Galileo, Galileo, Galileo, Galileo Figaro, Magnifico-o-o-o-o…

Sigh. There was a final song (Yahooey). I had tickets to the concert, but alack and alas, they will now be nothing more than unused souvenirs. Family matters got in the way of my attending. However, not one to be thwarted when it comes to Queen, I have a song that simply must be added. All of my exposure to Queen has been through their mainstream songs, but my husband is a Queen aficionado, and one of his favorites is Fun It. The song was written by their drummer, Roger Taylor, and predates Another One Bites the Dust while having a bit of the same beat and disco sound. I’ll try to be on time for Neil Diamond. I saw him in concert in Cleveland way back in the 70’s. 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxPQF4K5ocg

Thanks for sharing your Queen connection … and for the song I didn’t know. Interesting the resemblance to Another One Bites the Dust. Good song!!! … hope to see at Neil’s concert.

Thank you for the song – and yes – one that I don’t know. Neil starts in a matter of hours – and I imagine some are wondering about the opening song.

Yes. I so know. Can’t wait to see what you’ve chosen as the opener and I’ve a few lined up just in case! Coz yanno…you have “stolen” my first choice more than once 😉
Tee hee… all in jest, Frank.

I’m confident of a no steal -but yes – one never knows. Will also be interesting to see how people react to more of a pop star (than a rocker).
