The Weekend Concert Series returns this Saturday at 1:00 am (Eastern US) with Aretha Franklin – The Queen of Soul!!!!

What timing! This Sunday night (9 PM Eastern US), CBS is broadcasting a special tribute to Aretha!

Five more OITS until number 400.

Sad to hear the news about baseball great Tom Seaver having dementia. When he played in Cincinnati, he lived in a condo on a golf course I worked at in the summer. He was very appreciative when I told him that when people asked me where he lived, I always lied. The man was a great pitcher. Wishing him and his family much strength.

Thanks to Holly @ House of Heart for leading me to this awesome poem about Tango.

Ever ask yourself this question: “Why did I agree to do that?” Well, our dance instructor asked me if I would do a showcase dance with another partner. (My wife doesn’t dance performances). With my wife’s approval, I agreed – but of all things – Quickstep! Fast and not only of my better dances. YIKES! … OK – head to the grindstone.

With more and more Democrats seeking to be the 2020 party nominee for president, I wonder who will be the first to leave the race. Too bad Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) decided not to enter the fray.

I have mixed feelings about the Democrats decision to bypass FOX News for their debates.

This remains my best explanation of President Trump: He’s a pathetic person and an even worse leader who brings the majority of problems onto himself.

  1. Good luck with your dance, Frank!
The cherry blossom photos had me longing for spring.
Trump is worse than pathetic. I just don’t understand how people support him.
I will have to look up that Aretha special!

  2. I’m all-in for The Final Countdown to OITS 400!

Add the Quickstep to the Samba as dance music I need more schooling on.

I haven’t read it yet, but I look forward to the Pew Research Center’s “Americans and Germans Disagree on the State of Bilateral Relations, but Largely Align on Key International Issues” as a valuable guide to what centrist Europeans are thinking.

The splat “Man in rental car spends 20 minutes trying to find the steering wheel” is no joke!

    • Several years ago now, I had trouble filling the gas tank on a rental car. I couldn’t get the cover open. I looked for a button on the dashboard, there was none. Looked in the glove compartment (what an antique term!), nada. Tried pushing on the damn cover, no luck.

We were on the way to the airport, time was running out. Looked for the owner’s manual. Not there of course, one is apparently expected to know these things. Finally went to smart phone and found the manual online. The key? Roll the driver’s window at least partially down and then press on the cover! Talk about change for change-sake!!

We made the flight gate just as they started boarding.

  3. Cincy,

All your concerts are fun, but tonight’s (tomorrow morning) is going to be special.

I remember watching an interview with Seaver some time ago in which he talked about his love of painting and how he would have loved to have been a master painter. He was a different cat. I hate to use past tense, but dementia . . it plays for keeps.

Trump blamed Cohen’s testimony before a sub-committee for his epic fail of a summit. As if. But hey . . that’s to be expected at this point.

Brown was on the very short list of potential VP candidates for Hil. Have to respect someone who’s given most of his life to public service from bowing out of the national meat grinder and sticking close to home.

    As Aretha might say . . .

    • Marc,
Glad you are looking forward to the Queen of Soul. I wonder how many comments it will take to get R.E.S.P.E.C.T …. well, assuming it’s not the opener!

Seaver went on to have a winery in his beloved California. That, like pitching and painting, is an art. I wanted to mention him in this post because I knew you would appreciate the little story. I could have been a short distance from his place but we tell people he’s deep into the development.

If a female gets the Dems nomination, Brown maybe be on a short-list for VP.

      • Spoiler alert, Frank! LOL

He was a painter on the mound. And good on you for keeping it on the QT.

Brown has said he wouldn’t accept the nomination. But it’s easier said than done when they come to you with such an offer.

  4. Lol! The president’s weekly summary has been the same for 3 years, even the the first year it would be the candidate’s summary.
Big political scandal up here! I’m thinking the entire world is corrupt.

  5. Gotta love Dr. Seuss. 🙂 I totally agree with your description of Trump, but think you were much too polite. The last Onion headline is perfect. I’ve always thought that Linda Ronstadt has the most amazing voice.. See you at the concert. Have a great weekend.

  6. I was sorry Sherrod Brown decided against entering. I like him very much and thought he might have a good shot. I’m looking forward to Aretha. Not too long ago we saw the documentary “Amazing Grace,” released 50 years after the filming. It was originally filmed in 1972 at a church in Los Angeles when she was 30 years old. There was a conflict somewhere along the way and it was never released, or at least not until after her death. We saw it in the theater but I have to believe Netflix or someone will have it in time, and it was really special. She was such an amazing artist.

Do I ever agree to do something and then think why did I do that? Oh yes! Too many times to count! I hope your quick step will be a fun experience. You’re a good sport to agree!

    • Debra,
Although Brown cited family considerations as the main reason, but that’s always an easy out. He was out on the stump for a bit testing the waters, and maybe he didn’t see a lane. Who knows – but still disappointing. Thanks for the tip about Amazing Grace – I’ll look for it on Netflix and Prime.

  7. Looking forward to Aretha this weekend–your concert as well as Sunday’s special. The article on Seuss was interesting–I had heard some of it before, but liked the presentation. Thanks for another great post.

  8. Another fine musical share, Frank. Very sorry to hear the news of Tom Seaver. He was a terrific player and decent human being. Always a class act.

As for the presidential summary, I’d venture to say all of those comments have been repeated 779 times so far, one for every day of his administration. *Sigh* With well over 9000 lies it’s a sad day in journalism that his every hiccup makes the news.
