Oh my my – After 51 years as a franchise, the St. Louis Blues are Stanley Cup. What an improbable and incredible run they had since January. For me, a Blues fan for 51 years, I’m stunned and elated. I loved this tribute column in a St. Louis paper.
Congratulations to tennis pro Rafael Nadal for winning the French Open for an unbelievable 12th time. Cheers to golfer Rory McElroy for winning the Canadian Open – his sixth national open win.
I think we lost many images from our recent cruise. However, I’m confident that I will have enough for a series of posts.
Hoping for a time for the next act for the Weekend Entertainment Series. Next act will be Elton John – tentatively set for Saturday, 22 June at 1:00 AM (Eastern US)
Has anyone seen Rocketman – the Elton movie?

A citizen’s group in Ohio is considering a ballot initiative to close the gun-show loophole for gun sales without a background check. It will be interesting to see if the Republican legislature flinches.
Shortly after Joe Biden (D-DE) announced his 2020 candidacy in early April I had a list I called Biden’s Dilemma. I’m amused how much they have played out over the past two months.
President Trump recently announced a new military sale/deal with Poland that is huge and fantastic. I believe Poland is in the list of Eastern European countries with leadership leaning toward Russia.

To send you into the weekend, here’s another classic song I enjoy in the winter at the Flora Bama). In the words of Garrison Keillor, Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.
“Moondance” is one of my all-time favorites. Nice! And yes, I’ve seen Rocketman. I really enjoyed it. I think I might go see it one more time while it’s in the theater. I thought it was very moving and I have an even deeper appreciation of the artist and the man. I will look forward to contributing a song to the next weekend musical offering. There are a lot of songs to choose from!
So sorry to hear about your lost photos, Frank. That’s got to be very disappointing!

Debra,
Thanks for your thoughts about Rocketman. We hope to see it asap, but scheduling isn’t easy for us at the moment. Cheers to those who enjoy Moondance. Michael Buble’s version is another good one.

Rafael Nadal was great… but what a tennis play it was, because of the weather! In politically we are not good these days with your President… Maybe you read… But what is good in our side… 🙂 Anyway, I am sorry too for your lost images… Thank you dear Frank, have a nice day and weekend, Love, nia

Nia,
Oh … I didn’t know you followed tennis! 🙂 Politically, I’m somewhat aware of what is going on in Turkey, partially because of you. 🙂

The No. 3 ‘cutting out of social relationships’ in the read “Some Real News About Fake News” by David A. Graham, struck me as the most dangerous.
I’m interested in using your Biden’s Dilemma list as a reference source for the next 18 months.
Thanks to your recommend of Madeline Albright’s book “Fascism: A Warning,” the heads up on President Trump’s recently announced new military sale/deal with Poland had immediate impact.

I love that the Blues adopted the song “Gloria” as a kind of anthem. Great sports town that’s been through some adversity, what with the Rams leaving for the West Coast. The Blues were a great story in the latter half of this season and once the games mattered, they found a different gear.
I can’t believe how Nadal dominates the French Open. He’s a slam dunk on clay.
Haven’t seen Rocketman and for some reason, I’m lukewarm on the prospect. I’ll probably watch it on the other side.
We need to close all loopholes. It SHOULDN’T be easy to purchase a gun, sorry.
Ugh! The polls! Already!!
Love the tune! 🙂

Marc,
Looking back, I can’t believe I didn’t use “Gloria” to end this post. But hey – there is always next week – meanwhile, this will do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjBZoekGEZM
You mentioned the Rams leaving St. Louis, don’t forget the football Cardinals, NBA Hawks, and hey – even the baseball Browns. Absolutely close the gun sales loopholes! … and here’s a past post for you that you will enjoy. https://afrankangle.wordpress.com/2009/07/10/on-a-not-so-famous-bowl-thats-not-a-bowl/

It’s funny how that whole Gloria thing caught fire.
Who can forget the Cardinals? (Other than me). It was kitschy, having a baseball and football team with the same name. I remember reading an SI article when the Sooners coach Bud Wilkinson signed on with the team. There was a lot of excitement but no results.
You would think St Louis would be a much better locale for basketball than most.
They need to be closed up. It’s not an ‘inconvenience’, it’s a necessity.

St. Louis is a great hockey town, and the fans there deserve their time in the sun. The way many of their retired stars have also relished the moment.

The fake news thing is scary, especially how dt’s supporter’s label as fake any news that doesn’t support him. I love Moondance!

Merril,
The use of fake news to influence people is scary, and I’m afraid that President Trump may have set a new standard of acceptance. On a better note, here’s another one of my favorites, Michael Buble’s version of Moondance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBCJWJXeFzk

We witnessed great hockey. Two teams taking each other to the edge. The Bruins dominated most of the play in game 7, but Biningtyon was just too much.
Congrats.

Drew,
Great hockey it was by two strong teams in battle. Once the Blues got ahead, I think they concentrated on defense (which they do well) – which gave the illusion of Bruin dominance. Nonetheless, Bennington was awesome and Rask final cracked. Hey – did you notice I’m hoping for an Elton concert next weekend.

Oh, Elton. That will be beautiful. Excited about that one. He is one of the greats.

The article on “Robotic Farming?” was a good one. A machine that can pick ripe strawberries and leave the green ones, wow. Works 24/7, never gets a sore back, never complains. Whodathunk it? Reminded me of a recent article in USA Today about the automation of Las Vegas, to wit, automated bar tending machines. Push a button and out comes any cocktail, precisely mixed and ready to serve. It was estimated that 65% of the jobs in Vegas can potentially be automated. Jobs requiring pulchritude will probably always be exempted from A.I., but who knows?

Jim,
Always good to know that you found a gem in the Reads section. Automation (as well as corporate mergers) are big reasons for lack of jobs. Fewer people, still getting the tasks done, and increasing profits – oh boy – many people lose.

Happy Father’s Day and a righteous Moondance to you! What an amazing sports week. Although not a fan of the Blues (hard to like divisional rivals, right?) but certainly was thrilled for the win over the B’s. And with the Raptors beating the Warriors, my sports week was complete. Looking forward to the next concert.

Monika,
Not rooting for division rivals is OK in my book. I’m even more extreme – when my team is out, the hell with the rest of them – In other words, loyalty matters. Cheers to you being a sports fan. Concert will be Saturday, 1 AM, Eastern US.

Thanks … but don’t go too far with that thought – after all, the Reds haven’t won since 1990 and the Bengals haven’t won a playoff game since that same year.
