The Producer’s Guidelines
- Only songs performed by James Brown
- No duplicate songs
- Include the song title in your introduction text so others can see it
- One song per person on Day 1, unlimited on Day 2
- To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line) – (I do not mind unembedding, so no apologies are necessary)
Note: Return on Day 2 to submit more songs without limits. (My typical signal is posting a song for all attendees.)

Cincy,
So many ways I could go with the Godfather of Soul, but I decided to go with a favorite of mine from the soundtrack for “Black Caesar”. It would be my walk up to the plate song if I played in the MLB, ;).
Imma go with “The Boss” in honor of the hardest working man in show business . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC2ZY2loo74 .

What a great, groovy, smooth choice, Marco. Love it… and it would make a fab walk up to the plate tune!

Marc,
The Godfather of Soul definitely earned the title of the hardest working man in show business. You had me smiling with the thought of this being a walk-up song for you in the MLB. Perfect … simply perfect. Speaking of the hardest working man – check out Marina’s song.

Not too bad… It’s 3 am. I had time to get in, pour myself a glass of wine, and painfully lower myself onto my sofa… Amazing how much you lose the beat after three weeks…
You chose the perfect song to start off the concert Frank! Love it.
I know this is kind of a given but I can’t help myself. This is my mostest favouritest James Brown song… “This is a Man’s World” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rq9OvaJyRc
There was a 10-minute version but thought I should spare you…
And Frank, for you, as a dancer, I saw this just earlier today, ironically… same song, with three dancers https://youtu.be/8MwoTxo_bsY

Dale,
Cheers … you survived the first of the string of parties! Loved the song and the dancers. Whew … out of my league. BTW – this is a great song for ballroom … actually Viennese Waltz. I don’t dance Viennese as it is too fast with too much spinning … Here’s one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiW5uT_GLvI

That I did!
Glad you enjoyed the dance – it was something else to see, wasn’t it?
As for your video… I’m still fanning myself off! That was hot, hot, hot… waltz meet tango…

And what was it with Brown and his ten minute songs? I guess that’s why he was dubbed hardest working. 😉

I just love it!
How to stretch a 3+ minute song into 10… I mean, talk about milkin’ it! 🙂

He probably went through the song in the studio and was like . . I only got three minutes worth of singing but I got ten minutes worth of dancing in me!

The song that made James Brown a meaningful name for me is “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine.” When I first moved to Europe, it was the theme song for a music show, called Sex Machine, on French TV. It was my Saturday night treat. Before that, I knew his music but had not given it much attention. Without much further ado: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UzZUfFUnxY.

It was so good he could get away with practically no lyrics! Love this one and considered using it myself 😉

The chorus heavy lyrics is what allowed him to improvise – patter and dance.

Morning greetings concert goers. Feeling super funky today so how’s about we “Get Up Off That Thing”? The lyrics aren’t particularly riveting, but, hey…who need rivets when you got the Godfather of Soul? Happy weekend. https://youtu.be/1_uNMy20qAI

Nice concert, Frank & fab opening song!
In “Life” by Kieth Richards, Kieth tells the story of how they went on after James.. The Apollo… I think,
Anyway, Jagger was smitten by James’ movements & tried to outdo James when he went on. It’s an hysterical story..and I believe I’ve seen footage in a docu on the TAMI Show. Like, seriously funny!

Kind of a mix of the song opener, eh? Man, did he like to drag out his songs!
LikeLiked by 1 person
He was live performer who liked to jam and he figured out that he had record live in the studio. The call outs to Maceo in this song – how many others are doing that in a studio. Though it leads to 10 minute songs.
There’s an uncut version from that recording session that goes on for 13+minutes. That means when they were looking what to cut, they only found 3 minutes – the rest was considered too good for the cutting floor.

Boy did he ever! And how cool is this…
Only 3 cutable minutes… not many could say that!
