On a Mad Monday

For the record, I’m not mad that it’s Monday … nor am I mad that the weekend is over … nope, the hectic nature of the holiday season doesn’t make me mad. Therefore, I’ll explain later.

The holiday season is in full swing, and the weekend before Christmas is always hectic. How was your weekend? Ours involved an evening of ballroom and a whirlwind cross-state trip (3+ hours each way). After returning home, tango formation practice and a Christmas party concluded our weekend.

My wife knows many Christmas carols, but I was surprised to discover that she didn’t know this one. Do you know it?

An important reminder to everyone. The Kennedy Center Honors is one of the shows that we love at this time of year. It’s simply several hours of outstanding entertainment and tributes. This year’s honorees are Al Green, Tom Hanks, Sting, Lily Tomlin, and Patricia McBride, so there will be a plethora of outstanding performers participating in the tributes. The event occurred earlier this month, but CBS will air it on December 30 9-11 pm (Eastern US) … and it’s worth the watch!

Opinions in the Shorts: Vol. 242

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, this is an abbreviated and prerecorded edition of Opinions in the Shorts. More importantly, I hope all those celebrating the holiday had a wonderful day!

A Republican-led House of Representatives committee report about the attack at Benghazi debunks notions of a conspiracy. Because the conclusions don’t fit the party’s narrative, the people deserves another report. After all, this was only the seventh committee.

Last week, Cincinnati-based global consumer product giant Procter & Gamble issued a statement in support of same-sex marriage as a “statement of support for our employees.” Since reported (and as one can imagine), the local letters to the editor have provided interesting commentary. Cheers to P&G!

How can anyone not appreciated NFL player T.Y. Hilton’s reaction after scoring a touchdown last Sunday and his television interview after the game. (Watch)

Congratulations to Alfonzo Ribeiro for winning Dancing with the Stars. We thought the Monday night show was one of the best ever.

Hooray for everyone participating in Act 13 of Life: The Musical. Life is full of ups and downs, so start thinking about the next act. After all, I’m sure readers can determine what follows positive emotions.

A shout-out to Pauline (in New Zealand) for this outstanding post about blogging, which is a good read.

In the spirit of “Positive Emotions” from Life: The Musical – Act 13, here’s a song that will be a surprise, yet send you into the weekend with a smile … Smiling Happy Monsters by REM with the Sesame Street gang.  Have a safe weekend, and in the words of Garrison Keillor, Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.

On a Radio for Monday

Another weekend has come and gone. How was yours? What was your memorable event of the weekend?

Because Saturday was a full day, we strolled onto the ballroom floor Friday night – thus Saturday we spent the day at the Handbell Musicians of America conference (which included a good concert), and then attended a barbecue party hosted by friends.

Sunday was a low-key day. I enjoyed watching The (British) Open and its crazy ending. Also on Sunday, a homegrown kid who grew up to play for the hometown team was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Cheers to Cincinnati Reds great, Barry Larkin.

Your Monday Morning Entertainment is from the Sesame Street vault of fun moments. Enjoy the Martians and the radio – and a special shout-out to Madame Weebles, who (not long ago) shared this video with her readers.  Have a good week.

On Muppet Monday

Another weekend in the books and the start of another week. How was your weekend?

We went to our dance studio, a wine tasting of our church group, a baby shower as our assistant pastor and his wife are expecting their first child, and a graduation party. My wife also went to one of the best summer art shows in the country where she also volunteered. In other words, a full weekend for us.

Because the Muppets brings smiles, that’s a good enough reason to have them start our week. This one goes back to 1969 on Sesame Street! Have a good week! … and don’t forget the password below.
