Duet …
… two working together working together as one
… a pair performers working in concert with one another
… a duo, twosome, match, dyad, a couple a pair
There has to be chemistry in a duet, but if you go beyond the point of friendship and attraction, you lose something. (Kenny Rogers, entertainer)
To sing a duet together means sharing with someone both the pleasure and the responsibility of making music for an audience which is there to feel enjoyment through music. (Andrea Bocelli, singer)
Our mind is capable of passing beyond the dividing line we have drawn for it. Beyond the pairs of opposites of which the world consists, other, new insights begin. (Hermann Hesse, novelist)
Marriage should be a duet – when one sings, the other claps. (Joe Murray, artist)
Enjoy this animation by Glen Keane with this question in mind: What meaning do you apply to this Duet?
Good one, Frank, explaining the concept of duet with great artistry through a beautiful animation. Musical Duet is truly the vocal magic of two voices complementing towards a unified whole…best wishes.

Raja,
Very true … not only 2 vocalists, but also two instruments as two cellos or two guitars, or a cello and a piano. Complements and unifying are two wonderful words describing a duet.

Agree with Rajagopal and Derrick. 🙂
It also made me think of my daughter and son-in-law. He was a man with a dog, and he and my daughter first met in theater class. Then they were both cast in “Streetcar.”

So many different pairings. Boy and dog, boy and girl, man and woman. But more in the concept of duet, so much more. Music, voice, instrument, dance all could be forms of duet. So many different pairings we could look upon to frame a concept aren’t there?
Loved both the music and the wonderful animation of the video.

A duet is a special place, from Astaire and Rogers, Bergman and Bogart, Gere and Roberts….This was a great post to read on a Saturday morning. Thank you.

Such a delightful video, Frank. Now I’m remembering how my sister and I used to sing duets. The joys of life are far more fun when shared with someone else. 🙂

Love the Joe Murray quote. And what a wonderful video. Great find! I don’t usually watch clips all the way to the end, but I did that one. Gorgeous. How cool would it have been if it had kept going until their old age together?

The fact that this video captured then held your attention throughout is quite the testimonial. Glad you enjoyed it … and yes, the story could easily continue.

I believe Kenny Rogers was wrong when he said, ” . . . if you go beyond the point of friendship and attraction, you lose something.” In the case of this clip there were several dozen people collaborating effectively to produce a musical and visual work of art.
As one with no drawing talent I was impressed with the lifelike anatomical animation. DaVinci was famous for his anatomy realism, but the artist who drew these has the same eye for proportion and shape.

Jim,
My drawing ability is much closer to yours that to Da Vinci’s, so I can related. 😉 … and cheers to the main artist in this video.
In life, collaborations are important … very important … and examples are endless. On the other hand, I think Rogers was talking about the effect of losing the focus on the collaboration at hand.

The nice thing about a duet is the fact that voices can be different and still be in harmony.

This was lovely animation, Frank. An artfully told story. When I think of duets I think of piano for four hands. I used to enjoy playing duets on the piano and haven’t done that in years and years. 🙂

My 85 year old piano-duet buddy and I play difficult Haydn and Bach Sonatas. We giggle, laugh out loud and high-five each other when we both end our Primo and Secondo parts at the same time! Many call that a duet when 4 hands play the same piano. Rosemary and I call it great joy.
Thanks again, aFa. Well done.
