Doobie Brothers
The Producer’s Guidelines
- Only songs performed by the Doobie Brothers (not solo acts)
- No duplicate songs
- Include the song title in your introduction text so others can see it
- One song per person (on Day 1)
- To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line) – (I do not mind unembedding, so no apologies are necessary)
Note: Return on Day 2 to submit more songs without limits. (My typical signal is posting a song for all attendees.)
“Listen to the Music”
Next Concert: Unknown because of upcoming Blog Break
Past Concerts (Category): Beatles, Ex-Beatles, Moody Blues, Queen, Neil Diamond, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Elton John, Billy Joel, Crosby Stills Nash & Young (the group)
I knew it! No way in hell Frank will NOT use “Listen to the Music”!
I will admit I thought I knew nothing about the Doobie Brothers until I landed on YouTube…
So, I know this is an obvious choice (but then, so was yours) so I’m going to have to go with “Black Water” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km4-eKvv3EM

That was my first choice and I thought I had a good chance of it still being available because I didn’t think it an obvious choice. I have been wrong about more important things.

Glad I was able to throw you for a loop with the opener. An unknown factoid – I saw the Doobie Brothers in concert just as they released the third album – Captain and Me – which means the first big one (their second album – Toulouse Street – was out. Meanwhile, Black Water was quite the surprise went it came on the scene – Great song! …. and who doesn’t love the ending.

Pauline,
A definite hit – but one from the second rendition of the DB. For whatever reason, the lead singer left, and Mike MacDonald was the replacement – and he changed the sound – but was successful.

Mike MacDonald definitely changed the sound to one very distinct

MMacD was unique … but definitely a change from the original sound, which was my preference.

How ’bout some old Doobies this morning? I always enjoyed listening to them especially on long road trips. From the 1973 album The Captain and Me, this tune was written by band member Tom Johnston, lead vocalist and harmonica solo performer. Originally the cut was an untitled (and mostly ad-libbed jam) the Doobies played onstage years before it was finally recorded after the group’s record producer convinced Johnston to write lyrics to the tune. Here ya go: Long Train Running. https://youtu.be/m4tJSn0QtME

Cincy,
The Doobie Brothers was an interesting concert choice. They had several iterations, and each one unique to the period of time they lived in. And unlike some bands, they actually produced all time classics with each lineup.
I went with a song that got finger synced in perpetuity. China Grove https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udSHItTjWyQ

And hey! This IS the 50th anniversary of the Miracle Mets of Seaver, Koosman and Agee. And the team from Queens is making some noise right now, with a rotation that is as good as anyone’s when they’re kicking it . . .
