The Story
The sky towers above – seemingly endless, but is it.
The sky is a place for imagination – imagine the swift flight of a local bird – imagining the float of a butterfly – imagining the soar like an eagle – imagining being on a plane to an exotic land
The sky is a place for dreams – of course, the dreams to fly – but also the dreams to go beyond – dreams of a future love we don’t yet know – dreams of the love we have – dreams of a love that remains for someone who is gone.
The sky – a place for contemplation – wondering about what to do – wondering what will be – wondering what has been.
The sky as a metaphor – a smoke – whether haunting or hopeful – a sign of brightness and darkness – for calm and storm – a blanket – infinity.
The sky is a place for everyday things – a place that never seems the same – the place that is the steadiness of the sun, the moon, the clouds, and the stars.
Welcome to Sky: The Musical.
Program
Act 1: Sky
Act 2: Sun
Act 3: Clouds
Act 4: Moon
Act 5: Stars
Yeah we all shine on, like the moon, and the stars, and the sun. (John Lennon, musician)
Of all things visible, the highest is the heaven of the fixed stars. (Nicolaus Copernicus, astronomer)
It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. (William Shakespeare, playwright)
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. (Oscar Wilde, dramatist)
Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people. (Carl Sagan, scientist)
Guidelines
- Songs with either Star or Stars must be in the title
- Cautions
- No songs using star as a compound word (starlight, stardust, stargazer, etc)
- No duplicates songs regardless of artists
Production Note
To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please 1) include the song title and artist in your text, and 2) paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.
Announcement
It is fitting that stars serves as the final act of Sky: The Musical. Those twinkling lights in the sky causes us to wonder while also serving as a metaphor to strive for a goal – to reach for the possible – to go deep within one’s self. I imagine most of us as kids laid on our back trying the difficult task of counting the stars in the night sky. With that in mind, we welcome OneRepublic with Counting Stars.

Correct … The Producer’s winning percentage is quite high. The opening song has various names, but with the Main Title’s automatic reference to Star Wars (and being so recognizable today), he has approved this … yet, that doesn’t automatically qualify other songs from the soundtrack. … On the downside, let’s not forget that it’s The Producer – not, the Producer, The producer, or the producer.

Good Evening aFrank,
I am taking a quick break from the political debate. I’ll post my song quickly. I will be back to visit and see the wonderful submissions from everyone tomorrow.
Your song by One Direction is a favorite of mine. I took a dance class last January and one of the routines was choreographed to the song. Super Selection … !!!
My song is one I love from Pinochio. Hope everyone enjoys.

At your Producer’s urging, I’m returning to my jazz roots with Charlie Parker’s quirky ‘Quartet Version’ of “Star Eyes.” The song is from the 1943 film “I Dood It,” written by Gene de Paul and Don Raye. It was performed in the film by Helen O’Connell and Bob Eberly accompanied by Jimmy Dorsey’s orchestra. Charlie Parker recorded “Star Eyes” in 1951 for Verve Records. Owing to Parker’s influence, the song has become a popular vehicle for jazz musicians and is now considered a Jazz Standard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcdM4NpCJgs

My first choice, Simply Red’s “Stars” was taken ~ my second choice by Lady Antebellum, “Stars Tonight” may get the buzzer, as it relates to people as stars, not the twinkling variety, and I’m not taking any chances!
So, my third choice is a real oldie, very upbeat, and I do hope The Producer approves! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmkg_E2evbg
PS ~ I like your choice of “Counting Stars” over the theme from Star Wars for the opening song of this act, even though the debate was strong. 🙂

Gotta admire your cautious approach. For the record, the Lady A song was fine because the rules didn’t specify … (although I did think about that point going into the act – but wisely decided to keep it simple.) … Hooray for Perry Coma because this may be the first time he has appeared twice in one act … but that’s just a guess. … And thanks for the Counting Stars support! … Hope to see you at the party this weekend!

Lots of injuries, and they extend to this weekend (@SF) … which (with 3 to go) is a huge game in my eyes. Dalton’s injury was one of those fluke things that happen. Then again, it doesn’t happen without the interception. On the other hand, the Steelers are still on the outside looking in, but a win this weekend would be huge – especially considering the cupcakes in the last two games.
